- A Utah couple is lucky to be alive after their Thailand vacation went from joy to terror. Nicole Siri and Mark Martin leaped from a carriage, 10 feet off the ground, after the elephant they were riding went rogue. Martin was left with a broken back and shattered pelvis while Siri broke her back. Doctors in Thailand told them they would be hospitalized for months. Fortunately, a friend arranged for them to be medevacked back to Utah on a 20-hour flight. Now, they are healing at home.
To help Nicole and Mark with their medical expenses, please visit this GoFundMe campaign www.gofundme.com/f/nicole-and-marks-medical-fundraiser
Yeah ok IE...imma donate to ppl who could afford to go vacay in Thailand and ride an elephant. Lmao gtfoh.
Why would I like to help these two irresponsible adults??
Animal abuse by whipping this animal. No wonder it went on a spree. It had enough . And the guide, by the looks of the video, was in no hurry to catch up. And the story was ruined further by then posting a GO FUND ME. Really? They took an exotic expensive vacation and didn't bother to take out a Medical Insurance Policy including Medical Evacuation?? Sorry I don't Fund or support stupid.
I’ll donate to help rescue those elephants from abuse! Not injured rich vacationers who have friends that can fly them home in a private jet. Ridiculous.
@@roxannslavik1948 no human has strength enough to hurt an elephant with a whip a 22 wouldn't even scratch its skin
Why do people insist on abusing those beautiful animals, and then expect them not to react??? It’s beyond sad and ridiculous
It's their own fault no sympathy for them but the elephant
@@Isabel-jb7vd hate to break it to you, but they’ve been doing that for thousands of years
@@TateBrothers362Hate to break it to you but that doesn’t make it ok 😂
As long as people will pay to ride an elephant then it will not stop, Just like the Zoo.
Well at least they learned never to do it again and care more about the creatures. Still sad that the elephants continue to do this 😢
The elephant is tired of being mistreated by people. Tired of being whipped, used and abused. Any person would feel the same. I'm not mad at the elephant at all.
Yup
Moral of the story, Don't whip elephants. Don't whip any animals. It's cruel and not necessary.
They don't whip them, they stab them with the metal hook you can see at 0:33
Moral of the story: Don't ride elephants, they aren't made for that...
@@tsa349 Whenever you see a trainer/handler with a metal hook (almost always), the animal is being hurt/threatened as a deterrent.
Fellow Americans: when vacationing in foreign, countries please do not ride these poor animals. Elephants were not meant to be like horses and ridden around on their backs. It causes a lot of back pain for them. Please stop.
@@sunfollower5623 it's not american or any other foreign fault tbf, it's the local and they cultrure, they just keep doing it now for money from tourist
Aren’t elephants really intelligent and have good memories? Pretty cruel to hit them.
Yes, you should watch the wild Thornberry movie
cruelty determined by intelligence and memory?
Who hit them?????
@@jwill5892Did you watch the video? The guide whipped the elephant before he went crazy.
@@jwill5892?? did you not watch the video, the elephant getting hit is the whole reason it went on a rampage
This elephant has been abused. Years of abuse. Built up anger. They deserve better than to be rides for tourists.
Never ride the elephants. It’s cruel. My wife and I walked with elephant rescues at a elephant rescue reserve in Thailand. Fed them and learned about the cruel treatment of these elephants ridden by tourists
Well someone is setting up and facilitating the use of the elephants for riding. It's not only the tourists faults.
Nothing cruel about riding an elephant! Good grief!
@@noahx.classicyup. We did our research ahead of time and made the choice we felt most comfortable in supporting with our money. As animal lovers I feel good about our decision. These folks supported a cruel activity and kept filming their fun even after things had clearly gone left.

Poor elephant, I hope he’s okay!
Same tbh
Unfortunately I have a feeling they put it down. They usually do when these poor babies show signs of aggressive behavior 😢
Unbelievable... that poor creature. I wish there was something we could do for that poor elephant.
0:38 Yeah, I would have gotten angry too if someone was riding my back and whipping me.
My bestfriend's boyfriend is Thai and used to work in one of these parks when he was still in Thailand. He said that the trainers would starve the elephants for days if they misbehave in front of the guests. So you could only imagine what they did to this elephant.
Since her BF is Thai, is he uncircumcised and do his farts and burps smell like peanut and lemon grass?
Oh that’s very horrible need to put a stop to that situation.
That's horrible 😭
I didn't know it was that bad. I knew it was bad and we need to do something, but I didn't know how bad.
@@HowieHoward-ti3dx wtf
If you think elephants aren't intelligent or show empathy heres a example. A man named Laurence Anthony saved multiple elephants and opened a preserve. After Lawrence Anthony died in 2012, a herd of elephants marched 12 hours to his house. They stayed there for two days in a funeral-like procession. And they return every year to mourn his passing.
Wow, amazing!
Wow, amazing!
Oh my GOD!!!
I’m team elephant.
I agree with you 100%. 👍Team elephant.
Obviously !
I’m also on Team Elephant!
One very good reason to always treat animals with the respect they deserve.
Wow a wild animal didn't like being struck with a whip. I find it hard to have sympathy for these two, when neither seemed concerned about the elephant.
yeah, it’s be a little hard to have sympathy for an animal as you’re by yourself on a mountain cliff. 😒
@@ariannacleveland it's not the elephant's fault that it was enslaved.
Why do people constantly abuse these majestic animals, and then when they fight back everyone's all shocked?
I think it's because it started back before any modern biology research and still continues to be done for the money.
The elephant doesn't like the way he is being treated. This is very sad!!!!!
0:53 "You can see the guide trying to catch-up on foot"
He is not even trying lol
Oh wow. Thats CRAZY. When will we learn to leave animals ALONE!! I don't blame the elephant at all. I hope the didn't put it down
Trying to show out.😮
I take it you didn't wanna donate to them either right?
Say that to horses lmao.
@prettykittycakes I, _too,_ hope they didn't euthanize ('put down') the elephant, so I went onto Google and Googled the heck out of this incident. No results came up at all saying that the elephant was put down, so I'm going to say the elephant is still alive. 🙏🏻 *_If_* the elephant had been put down, I'm sure the media would have been all over it (reporting it like crazy) because they know it would have undoubtedly caused an uproar.
He makes those parasites too much money to be put down. He was probably beaten.
I was rooting for the elephant for a bit there
Broken backs, appears the elephant won
Poor elephant 🐘. I hope they didn't hurt him.
Me to, keep the guide away from the poor elephant
they probably punished the elephant for misbehaving once the tourists left
Of course, you must realize that the elephant was literally tortured into submission when it was a juvenile in order to provide that ridiculous “ride”. This should be criminalized! Shame on those tourists for supporting a truly corrupt and evil industry!
I hope the Elephant's ok. ❤️🐘 ❤️
That poor elephant😢
Aw boo hoo.
I feel bad for them but elephants have been traumatized and abused for decades. They clearly have had enough and we should respect that
I couldn’t careless about what happened to these id!ots. I’m sad for the well-being of the abused elephant.
I felt sorry for the elephant. We human beings should never abuse these animals. 😢
Maybe, ummm, stop using animals as objects
I came here for the comments, I’m not disappointed !!!
I’m glad to see a lot of common sense, and support for the elephant !!!

if I got paid as much as they paid for one of those trips hell hop on
It’s nice to see everyone know what exactly these precious creatures endure and be the voice for them. I feel no sympathy for anyone who can support doing such to an animal. Help with their medical expenses? Hell no!
Help save the elephants? Hell yes!!!

So Roding horses is abuse aswell?

Elephants spines aren't designed to carry people. Stop riding them and start treating them properly. That couple now has lingering pain and thousands of dollars of medical bills to deal with.
The elephant just got fed up with being abused,I've seen that before...there intelligent animals...stop abusing them....
How would you feel if someone was riding you and whipping you?
I'm not an elephant. So I don't care.
Way I see it is they took a ride on the elephants back, so it's just fair he gets to do the same! :D
I find it amazing how the guide got off with no injuries.
Whipping the elephant was a stupid, abusive act.
Elephants aren’t meant to be whipped & ridden people. Can’t imagine why that isn’t common sense.
It's almost like riding a wild animal is dangerous and shouldn't be done
Can never really get mad when Animals that have been abused finally have enough and lash out. Stop whipping animals, stop abusing them, stop using them for profit

Why whip a calm elephant for no reason!?
The handler was at fault and these elephant tourism industries don't treat the elephants well ither. They whip them or use hooks, the elephant had enough of the mistreatment and now has a hatred towards humans. Makes me wonder how long this elephant has been mistreated by the company. The couple is lucky to be alive. Next time go to a zoo or a sanctuary to see the elephants.
Have you ever heard of the incident where an elephant crushed an entire village all for the sake of food?

Nicole and mark were my late parents names. 😢.
Poor elephant, not her fault, hitting her is awful, poor thing.
Tragic existence for the elephant. The problem is the people
I lived in Thailand for a year and refused to partake in any of the elephant activities. There is an elephant sanctuary but never looked at it. They didn’t seem happy.
Your comment reminded me of what I think was a video about fake animal sanctuaries
Poor elephant 😢
That elephant was tired of being abused and fighting back. I'm so glad you're both ok I know it was scary.
What an awful experience. I have no desire to ride on elephants. I recently read about a young woman who went on her dream vacation with a friend. She ended up being critically injured, by the elephant that she and her friend had been on. That elephant threw the guide off and took off running with - - both ladies clinging tightly, to stay on. After running for a short time, it shook those ladies off and decided to roll on top of one lady (the other lady had been able to scramble to safety). The critically injured lady, had multiple fractures - - all over her body! She stated that before she passed out, she had heard her bones crack‼️
Respect nature. I wouldn’t want to ride and elephant anyways. But I’ll stand in front of it showing it love. Elephants have good memory.
Thank you, Mr. Rich friend
A friend had them medi vacked to Utah from Thailand. I need friends like that
He had enough abuse
after an experience like that, i think they’ll be together forever lol
I have no desire to ride an elephant... The sick and twisted thing is that there's probably dozens of lawyers who've contacted this couple looking to sue... What a backwards world. 🙏
damn i’d sue too. if me and my partner broke both our backs because of an elephant knocking the rider off and them not even try to catch up, hell yeah i’d sue. wouldn’t you?
Amazing footage.
Call me whatever you want, but I leave the wild animals alone.
I've never been so proud of a comment section...
Had to look it up…they’re at about $17k in donations. If there was absolutely no way to free this regal creature to a protected habitat, and the only options were continued life-long imprisonment or euthanasia…I would free this elephant by euthanizing it. Don’t wish ill-will toward the couple, but I wonder if they look back at this event as wiser people (doubt it, they seem wrapped up in self-pity), and have misgivings about going on a “harmless” elephant ride? I don’t feel that I could donate to someone who consciously put themselves in this situation. Plus, seems like they have plenty of comfortable friends who can foot medical expenses…
Stop riding animals and hitting them , leave them the hell alone and admire their beauty from afar
Poor elephant was fed up
Free all animals in cages and abused!!!!!
That is anger 💀 the elephant had enough 💯
If it an elephant allowed me to I would gently touch it but never ride it.
I hope this is a lesson for everyone watching ... If you want to commune with majestic wild animals, how about just observe them. Don't ride them.
That's what you get for abuse elephant
Elephants backs arent like horses, it hurts them very much to be ridden. this is heartbreaking. poor animal
I feel bad for the elephant.
Feel bad for the injured people.
They were safe on its back, they made the choice to jump and that was a BAD choice. Dude isn't 20 anymore ! 🤭😂😂
hahaha they were not safe whatchu mean
If they hadn't been on the elephant, they wouldn't be hurt. Donate money for the elephants, not these entitled fools.
Man, what a story!

I feel bad for the elephant rather than the humans who paid to ride while it's obviously being abused... Maybe people ought to think of innocent animals welfare before their own thrilling ride on the back of an animal that is supposed to be wild.
Out of control elephant or elephant who don't want two people on his back🤔
That's what you get for riding an elephant, especially an abused one.
Shame on this couple for doing this!!!! They should have vistited an elephant sanctuary rather than riding an elephant! They should be ashamed of themselves for thinking that elephant abuse is okay when it's not!!!!
My 2 children rode an elephant as guests of the circus. Thank goodness no problems. They were 6 and 10 then.
Take that off your bucket list. Leave the elephants alone. They weren't born to serve us.
I be wanting to do stuff like this but this just proves my point of why I don’t 🤦🏾♀️
Honestly, do your research people. Riding elephants is barbaric and those animals suffer nothing but abuse.
The ,elephant said "Enough of this abuse, for your amusement "!! I AM MAJESTIC AND BEAUTIFUL, SMART TO BE REVERED. I hope they stop this immediately. I'm glad the couple survived and will recover soon. 🙏
