As a car enthusiast and pragmatist, I just purchased this vehicle. Maybe it’s because I’m not as jaded by having driven supercars… but this thing is fun to drive. There’s no other car outside of a 911 that I’d rather own for my situation. Younger me would be stunned at that revelation.

You haven’t driven a real car then. Go drive a tuned car, it’s miles ahead of any super car experience.

@@2seep I don’t know man, I’ve driven many of the rusty Wallace racing experience cars and I owned an AMG. I don’t really care to go much faster on regular roads. I’d love to track a tuned vehicle though, but wouldn’t want it as my daily.

@@bitbat9 I suppose that’s specific to the area. I live in a rural area with a bunch of hills and long sweepers. However, when driven in a larger city, it becomes a little uneventful commuter. At least that has been my experience.

I’ve only filled it up 5 times since I’ve had it. I agree with Topher’s POV, not perfect but amazing for a daily commuting vehicle (depending on your commute ofc, bc Prime)! I have a 2023 Prius Prime XSE Premium, but without the solar roof, parking assist, or digital rear view mirror. My cost was $50K out the door by the time I got done paying taxes and fees and stuff.
I got a phone holder that fits in the right-hand cup holder, and I power my phone via USB-C. So I have that sort-of available to me. I plug it in every night and start the morning with a full charge. My commute to work is 25 miles each way, LA freeway, and I start early to try to avoid the worst traffic. I can get all the way to work on battery alone, and I have plenty of pep for that trip. Coming home I can get about 10 miles through city streets to the toll road I like for the homeward trip, and then the engine kicks in for the actual freeway stuff, very nice. I love the dynamic cruise control with TrafficJamAssist, and the lane keeping is a nice bonus. My previous car was a 2008 Corolla with a manual transmission, I love the boost in power from the Prius and the fact that I no longer have to even worry about the throttle or brake, let alone shift. With my commute and charging I am getting about 100 mpg overall.
My coffee mug is 52oz, does not fit in the cup holder. So in the passenger seat, held in by the seat belt, is a leveled piece of plywood with a huge cup holder and built-up storage/holder for the things I might want access to easily. It is also a handy place to drop things for a short time. Since I am almost always alone it just resided in the passenger seat, but if I *DO* have a passenger I can undo the seat belt and move my "shotgun caddy" to the rear. It's my car, I get to customize it for me.
I took a trip to Tucson and on the way out I had the cruise control set at 90mph, I got 35mpg (calculated when I filled the tank, not the instruments.) On the way back I set cruise control for 76mph and got about 40 mph. It's still better than my old Corolla under ideal conditions, and I have WAY more power and style and comfort. The Prius cruises very nicely at speed, firmly on the road and not dancing in my lane.

@@TomLawlor-iq6gmin all honesty, the SE Atrim makes a lot of sense with smaller tires which is better for fuel economy. plus more economical and easier to find snow tires in that size (if required). the higher trims just don't make sense to me with the thin 19" tires. interestingly, the heated steering wheel is a great option but they should have provided a 360 camera as a available option for all trims. the visibility is not the best for sure

I just got a Camry XSE Hybrid, and I love it overall. The seats are rather...hard, to say the least compared to my previous Altima. The Rear cross traffic alert chime is perfect for parking lots when backing out, its saved me a few times when the rear camera couldn't see the car coming but the car still alerted me of incoming traffic. Perfect choice for someone living in a city or close to a city, but redundant choice of a hybrid if you live far out in the woods (like me). I should've purchased a plug in hybrid instead considering I have such a long commute most of the time.

It may be different for the new generation of prius, but the "B" mode does not increase regenerative braking, but instead revs up the motor without using gas to use up energy and slow down the vehicle. Generally, you should only use it going down large hills to take away wear from your physical brakes.

    • @Supertrooper697
      @Supertrooper697 Před 2 měsíci +1

Not true in the Prime. It does increase regen braking while in EV mode.

You know, we finally got our 2024 Prime last week after a 21momth wait. And, it seems we have been rewarded, love the thing. This is our third Prius in a row but the first PHEV. All of them had featured a "B" selector position. But, you know what, none of the associated manuals adequately explain just what the "B" function does or does not do.
I think using it does increase the charging. This based on the fact that I ca see a higher return on the % gauge when rolling down long hills. In our neighbourhood the elevation goes from sea-level to 400+' several times. In "D" going down a 400' slope the battery rises by 2~2%. In "B" mode, we get more like 3~4%.
Regards brakes; our last Prius was the C model. It had over 115,000km on it last summer when the brakes started to growl. Bought all the parts and went to a mechanic. Wow, he told us the rear brakes still did not need to be replaced after 11 years. Wow. And, this despite the fact the C does not have Re-Gen !
Use your B position and your brakes will last for ten years I think.......................

Pricing for the Prime is very location sensitive. We just got a nicely appointed Prime LE for under $ 40,000 CAD. Take off the $5,000 in rebates and at less than $35,000 CAD, that's not an unexpected cost (made more palatable when you add in the trade in value of the old Prius C which returned 50% of its original cost from12 years ago).
I checked some UK pricing for the 2024 XKE, Mid level trim unit online. It goes for 40,000 British Pounds. Check the currency rates against the Canadian Doller vs Stirling currently. That puts an XLE at just under $ 70,000 CAD !

First the battery never drops to 0. Below a threshold charge level (level > 0%), engine will start and charge the battery to a certain level (likely less than 30%) and then go back to hybrid/ev mode previously set. Electric power is part of the overall powertrain and such setting would allow the car to always have full power when you floor it. There is also a dedicated charge mode that uses the engine to charge the battery to a higher level (80% on last gen). Also on less demanding scenarios (e.g. steady highway cruising uses < 40hp), the engine will power the wheels *and* charge the battery at the same time.

Lets don't forget; The Prime arrives with an onboard 115 VAC charger as standard OEM. Buying a Tesla involves you forking out another $ 3,000+ for a level 2 standalone charger (plus install costs). Where we live with rebates and the lack of needing a level 2 charger lowers the initial cost by almost 10 grand. We pay nearly $ 7.00 CAD a gallon for fuel here. In a few years we'll be ahead by a wide margin with our Prime.

Hybrids matters, they are in high demand, there is 6 months to 1 year waiting time for some of the hybrids and plug in hybrids.
