- Over at BigSandwich.co we do a number of bonus podcasts including movie commentaries, a rinsing of click bait articles and of course our Comic Book Club. In this video we take a look back at Darth Vader & The Ghost Prison, what I believe to be one of the greatest Darth Vader and Star Wars stories ever told. You might be like, well I love the original trilogy or I love the show Clone Wars or whatever. Well I say those are garbage and I'm very upset you even think that. Incredibly bad take. But thanks for watching. bigsandwich.co/. That's the link.

#StarWars #DarthVader #Kenobi - Zábava
Just want to throw out that I love the recurring "Here's the Thing" joke with the Ben Grimm appearances.
It’s so good. I now picture it in my head whenever they say it on the pod
The way Palpatine plays with Vader in the comics is something I'd love to see on screen. Their dynamic is so screwed, it makes for amazing storytelling potential.
To nuanced for modern day Hollywood but it'd be great to see if it was done right, I'd like to see a decent take on Thrawn as well
@@slyaspie4934 Oh yes, Thrawn is definitely a character deserving of an adaptation on the big screen!
It's called grooming IRL.
12:58 "here's the thing"
Little edits like that just kill me 😂
Followed immediately by the "Are We The Baddies?" clip haha
The greatest Vader story is the legends one about his armor and all the budget cuts and malfunctions that comes from its shoddy workmanship
Which he got from Emperor Palpatine’s Surgical Reconstruction Centre, or EmPalSuRecon
Like that rlm video lol
_"He cant even get shoes that fit"_
_"the guy cant catch a break"_
@@novakrabby *sad trombone*
@@novakrabby at least his armour is waxed with woodoo hide to distract from the shoddy workmanship
It actually never occurred to me that one of the reasons Vader never just flat out kills Palaptine for such a long time is cause he's just a lost and angry soul clinging to the only person who can give him some kind of purpose. (even if it's not a good one) Great analysis James!
I love the idea of Darth Vader hating the Emperor, but needing him to survive simply to give orders. Just being a rage machine who is terrified of ever having to actually decide for himself what to do next. I was really hoping we'd see that with Kylo Ren in Episode 9, but alas they just immediately replaced Snoke.
It kills me how they just axed all the potential of Last Jedi.
Yeah and gave Kylo a better arc.
I think a stronger explanation is that he wanted to learn more from Palpatine, because it was pretty early in his apprenticeship.
@@ineptwizzard what potential? We’ve seen Kylo be beaten multiple times by that point. He wasn’t a threat and neither was the first order. Like how exactly would a sequel to TLJ work?
@@decrulezit’s still hilarious that these movies are even a thing 😂😂 how could this happen
Call Mason a hack all you want, but he's consistent
Mason is a hack
@@Borat69able but he’s consistent
@@swagggghhhhhhh consistently a hack
I'll never say it to his face though. Maso stays strapped with half a brick.

The best Darth Vader story was when he was leaving the office one day and the security guard was like "Who are your people" and he was like "I'm alone, just an invader" and the guard said "Well, you're outside now so I'm going to name you Vader." Then Darth shouted he was not a child and force choked the guy. A real tearjerker.
This is the best thing.
This has potential
Shouldn't the guard have called him an "Outvader"?
The canon marvel Darth Vader comic that takes place actual seconds after revenge of the sith would be a good one to do next. There’s one that literally takes place in Vader’s head
"HERE'S THE THING"
Fuck me, the editing on these is incredible. Dying laughing right now, and that's FINE
love the life like mouth animations on james and maso
Wait what?! Are you telling me Australians don’t just talk like that?
@@_its_lunar_ they don’t exist sorry. The media has been brainwashing you into believing they are real
@@odysseus7709 I bloody knew it! Australia was made up by Big Vegemite to sell more Vegemite!
@@_its_lunar_ Im glad you’re not another lost soul now
Those aren't their real mouths? Don't all Australians have mouths like that?
The best Vader story was the one where Anakin was too horny to be a Jedi so he fell in love with an older girl who gives him a tiny bit of attention over the course of 10 years.
And then he kills a bunch of kids because he learns that people aren’t immortal
You ARE aware that Anakin HASN'T seen Padme in between TPM and AOTC, right?
Happy Comic Pop got a mention, they're great!
I had to watch this video like 5 times already, because every single time I would get to the end of the video and James would assume I was giong to do something else, so I just did the same thing again to spite him
What a bloody legend m8
Fun fact: Head master Gentis was named after the last Illirian King Gentios who betrayed the Romans and sided with Macedionians. The same way Gentis betrays Palpatine's empire.
It's like poetry it rhymes.
The GREATEST Darth Vader story was the friends we made along the way
Maybe the greatest Vader story was inside us the whole time
Maybe the friends that we lost along the way to
And then we sent all of them on a ship and blew up that ship...and Vader killed us right afterwards because he's a depressed psychopath.
I learned about Comic Pop through you guys when they made that Ninja Turtle videos and it is now one of my new favorite channels.
The greatest Darth Vader story ever told was when he was actually Mephisto Krasinski
I have to agree. Having the lingering question of when Mephisto and John Krasinski will show up before revealing them to be one character AND Vader was a stroke of genius.
Underrated comment
The greatest story ever told was that one person that feel in love with Darth Vader to an obsessive amount, or RLM going through the workings of Darth Vader's suit and how much of a nightmare it really is.
I am always here for a good, old-fashioned "here's the Thing" gag.
"Here's the Thing!"
I died laughing 😆😂
Massive, massive moment of nostalgia when Raggy Dolls were mentioned! Raggy Dolls video please.
This would be a great Disney plus mini series. Too bad it would never happen. At least we have the classiest booque clubbe covering it.
@@Ebola-Kun
Read a book. Preferably a comique booque.
@@Ebola-Kun the new Bad Batch is pretty good if you are a Clone Wars fan
@Trey Stephens I think they should do a “what if” or alternative story. What if Anakin beat Obi Wan, slayed Palpatine, saved his wife and kids and became the emperor of the galaxy. Far fetched to beat sudious but I just want to see galactic king Vader with his reluctant queen
I never really considered the fact that Darth Vader, who is literally shown to be a broken man, is a broken man. I always watched and read Darth Vader as this super cool badass tank who rips shit apart, and not as a sad broken man who needs to follow orders and needs validation. I never thought that Darth Vader was so paranoid to throw a man off a building, a man who helped him defeat a hostile government take over and who traveled through hell with him, all because Palpatine mentioned in a passing comment that he might one day be a successor.
The best Vader story is the one with the creepy Imperial stalker lady who fantasises about her and Vader being together and keeps pieces of his battle damaged armour. Then when she proclaims her love for him Vader impales her and tells the other Imperials to get this garbage out of my quarters.
Aww that's so sad.
The best darth vader story is when he fought the red guardian and the loser had to dress up as *corn of coblin*
Whilst they were both eating souvlaki!
ATTENTION BROTHER!!! I have two very very sweet girlfriends who I show off (I smell like 100 not-alive orangutans oh nooo) in my perfectly great videos that most people consider to be the reason of life! Thank you for you attention, dear dude kid alex

The best Vader story is when the Empire was pretty chill.

The novel "Dark Lord: The Rise of Darth Vader" by James Luceno is amazing.
12:57 is so fucking funny for no reason shoutout the editor
You're easily amused
Now that they have perfected the Vader A.I. voice it is possible to have Vader shows forever!
I bloody love these guys. Can't remember how I stumbled upon the on CZcams but so glad I did. Even if they're discussing something I have zero interest in (which is rare, they have great taste) I always tune in cos they're just so damn listenable!
This is a good comic, but I would say the best comic with Darth Vader is the one that has the crazy doctor's assistant who stalks Vader and falls in love with them only for him to kill her ass at the end. Classic!
All I could think is why doesn't Tohm have a robot arm, in a universe where everybody has a robot arm.
He's a hipster
One of the main points of the Sith is that no one follows the rule of two lol
Liked for the Comic Pop reference.
13:05 is absolutely hilarious editing! Love it.
I REMEMBER WHEN YOU UPLOADED THE VIDEO WHERE MASO MAKES THE HAYDEN JOKE WTF HOW LONG HAVE I BEEN SUBSCRIBED TO YOUR CHANNEL
Comic Pop and Star Wars Explained jokes all in one episode haha
You guys NEED to PLEASE animate these and put them on CZcams. I love that you guys are doing your own website and you need exclusive content, but these are so much better with the visuals. Please release the MR SUNDAY MOVIES CUT!!! ❤
Went above and beyond with the animations in this one!
i love when yall do comic books. i know it must be so much harder, but they are so great. and comics are so out of this world. never heard of this ghost prison situation but i love it.
Left a like for the ComicPop shout-out!
So glad you did this! Always wanted to listen in and see if it was for me. Loved it!
That's awesome that they shouted out comic pop
12:58 - "Here's 'the Thing'" brilliant editing
After recently watching Pirates of the Carribbean, I can't help but imagine Mason hides his keys in his beard
I know this is an old video, so there's a potential you two (plus Collings and Ben) will never see this, but I love the work you guys do. I want to find a way to be able to do this, and it's awesome to see you guys enjoying your careers and sharing information you care about with people. Keep up the good work.
0:52 mr Sunday is really flipping the script
Great video I love when you guys cover comics
James, just wanted to say you always do a great job!
As always the editing in these videos is just as funny as the dialogue
"I wanna cut people up because I'm MAD!" - Behold, the perfect description of Darth Vader's motivations.
Dam the comic pop mention at the end and the nerd sync/ Rob from comic explained cut out at the start really gave me flash backs to a better time
Comic Pop should join you guys for an episode of Caravan Of Garbage one day if possible
so i literally just recently became obsessed with radiohead in the past 2-3 weeks and havent stopped listening to them and reading about them. definitely did not expect a thom yorke reference in this random video i decided to watch while eating lol

“Here’s the thing...”
I’m so happy this is a reoccurring gag
"Here's the thing..." Nicely done Mitch. Nicely done.
Holy shit. Somebody referenced my favorite comic book CZcams channel with only 96k subscribers, Comic Pop, finally.
Thank you under-referenced CZcams channel Mr. Sunday Movies!
Missed a golden opportunity to use Christopher Lee from LoTR
You know, the more I think about it, this was just the Star Wars version of the Valkyrie story.
yes, except instead of the movie being about the coup plot, it would be about a doctor trying to save hitler's life.
3:19 I really like the sort of painted on one the far right
You know would be just AMAZING to see??? James and Mason reviewing the original 80s black and white Ninja Turtles comics! Their responses would be timeless!!!
Last time I was this early James was just a goat
Love you guys and comic pop
Wow, I never thought I'd see a video that references both Star Wars and Raggy Dolls. Amazing.
That ‘here’s the thing’ edit *chefs kiss*
11:34 begins like a 2 minute long Kreia moment and that was rad
The best version of Darth Vader is in the comics and books hopefully one day we get that intensity in the movies
thanks for the shoutout to comicpop
I love it
Hey! “robot eyes” is actually a character from Darth Vader’s second best story- (from the “Star wars Empire” run) where he actually tries to take over.
And that story/character was a one-off from a decade prior, so it’s cool they used him/fleshed him out
Darth Vader and the Ghost Prison is one of my favourite Imperial perspective stories.
I just finished Doomsday Clock and really enjoyed it. Id love a video on that
Thank you for covering. Ghosts are too spooky for me.
Having to confront metaphors about one's past is even more spooky
aw you shot out comicpop, which is my favorite channel of all time. I'm here because of them lol it was nice to see
7:58 where does the clip come from it's really cool
I never thought about it like that before. Vader needs direction, he’s an enforcer not a leader, which is why he doesn’t kill palp. Fascinating
My favorite podcast duo!
This book is fantastic! It really expanded the universe in a big way without taking away from the main story. Star Wars is a big galaxy so its best to make it feel like it. This is gonna sound typical of a fan, but try topping that Disney! Apart from the Bad Batch continuing the Clone Wars and Rebels, I've yet to see them really branch out
Love the comicpop shout out! Haha.
Did Ben do all the little comic frame animations? That was gooood
Omg I totally thought Mason said "written by hated black man"😳
Loving the police lineup at 0:57 in, lol.
is there a playlist for videos about comic books (like the darth vader video) on the channel?
Big fan of the videos. Would like to see a video of you guys discussing the difference in power levels between the comics and the MCU. Such as Hulk being less powerful and in my opinion Captain America being over powered. Keep up the good work
That panel where vader has his arm above is head probably did happen, it juts didn't show the next dozen panels where he is cradling his arm and doung his signature 'UUGGGHHHHH' groan.
Darth Vader and the Ghost prison definitely sounds like a title the boys would come up with lmao
I do like the attitude that one can read and enjoy something from the Star Wars Extended Universe and still not regard it as "canonical".
A while ago, there was a picture posted on Alex Ross's Facebook page of Darth Vader locked in combat with Superman. Beneath it was the question "Who would win?"
Naturally, most replies were along the lines of "Superman, unless Vader had some kryptonite". The thing is, I remember crossovers comics that had Supes go up against Aliens, Predator and The Terminator and each of them he lost his powers. To me, that would be like having Jimi Hendrix appear at your rock concert and have him just announcing the bands.
I suggested, rather than having a red sun or Kryptonite and rob Superman of his powers, perhaps The Force counted like magic, something that effects Superman like everyone else.
I then had a rather "gate-keeping" reply, scoffing at the idea that The Force was "magic" and another siting a story from an EU comic about a race of invading beings from another galaxy. Because they were from another galaxy, and The Force "binds the *galaxy* together" they were force immune. Therefore, Vader's powers wouldn't effect Superman.
So, rather than an epic clash of the titans, you'd either have a nerfed Superman or a nerfed Vader. Fuck it, let's have both! That's what we want to see- A grown man in spandex having a slap-fest with a disabled guy!
9:41 A wild Greninja appeared!
Love when you cover comics
The best Vader story was a short one in the back of another book. They try and fail to clone jedi or something but the whole story is told by Vader through inner monologue. It so perfectly captures the man in the machine. Although this is me remembering liking it, it could be crap. Though I'd love to read it again so if anyone knows what the hell I'm talking about let me know :)
Which book is it I'd love to read it!
@@mrsundaymovies Oh hi! I looked it up just for you :). It's called "In his image" by Karen Traviss. Was at the end of a legacy of the force book from years ago. You can find it online, it's a really quick read but in this reader's opinion some of the best Vader on the page.
Much appreciated thanks Jon!
Hey that point about how the Jedi should be living with the people and have outposts around the galaxy is pretty interesting.. Especially cause that's how it works in the new high republic era that's set before the prequels ::)
Love me some ComicPop!
Exorcist clip? Mitch you bastard! Triggered!! Lol
12:58 Hey Mitch screw you for making this very easy joke that had me dying.
I just got done reading some of the Vader comics what a coincidence
Why yes, what a coincidence indeed....
Love the Valkyrie ref.
Ever read 'New Statesmen' by John Smith and Jim Baikie? Came out in the late 80's in the UK anthology comic CRISIS and has a lot of mirroring with 'The Boys', but it's more political, if you like 'V for Vendetta' then this is worth your time too I reckon.
Y’all should do a follow up review of Trachta/Robot Eyes’ own coup, years later.
What was that movie you were showing when talking about a "ghost prison?"
😮 The acknowledgment of Comicpop really was icing on the cake. Connected universe is referenced again!
