Can "JUSTANSWER.COM" Fix Your Car? (Part 1: Nissan Titan NO-COMM for a YEAR!?)

  • Oh boy, here we go again!
This 2011 Nissan Titan V8 lost communication with the ECM a year ago, and has been a BEACHED WHALE since.
The owner obtained a replacement used ECM and had a shop program it.
Truck actually started and ran, but was in LIMP MODE with no throttle control!
    Parts Cannon got fired up:
APP sensor, Throttle Body, Fuse Box... now the truck is back to a NO-START, NO-COMM!
In desperation, owner went to JUSTANSWER.COM and they suggested that he CUT ALL of the 5V reference wires at the ECM to try to get it back online. WOW...
Obviously that was a BIG FAIL...now the truck is completely DISABLED, and has a BUTCHERED WIRING HARNESS!!!
Owner finally towed it to PHAD 3 hours out-of-state. Last Resort.
He says that he already spent way too much TIME and MONEY on this truck, and wants a DISCOUNT!!
Let's open up this CAN OF WORMS and see if we can get this truck back on the road...

But back in the late 90's it was awesome always trying to stay one step ahead of DirecTV and Dish. When I was a kid in the 80's, we had one of those big full size satellite dishes with the big hydraulic motor to move it to a different satellite, we used to get a lot of free TV back then also. I'll never forget moving that big dish to a different position to pick up a different satellite depending on what channel you were trying to find. Man we have come a long way.

Or the plugs are missing and they didn't tell Ivan. There's another possibility in a different universe. I was having a beer with my aircraft mechanic, and he was telling me all the horror stories of the guy who used to run that shop. Some aircraft come with 24V systems. Well, this guy installed a 12V starter. Apparently that's enough to cause exciting things to happen when you crank the engine.

i get the frustration completely. just this week an 07 escalade came into the shop and this guy had a bunch of complaints, rough running, no comm to ecm, ebcm, escm, long crank etc. he had replaced the air ride pump and “fixed” the ground that it on the rear body mount. i replaced the reprogrammed the electronic suspension control module and everything came back online, i removed the starter and found the ckp sensor unplugged, reconnected and that fixed the long crank and the dead tack and rough running however his air ride pump is still dead, aftermarket trash of course, power and grounds as well as 5v and low ref is all present i suspect a crap aftermarket pump

I hate it when things like this happen. I had a pt cruiser show up with a fan in-op. new fans, new tipm. Found the green crusties on the main power feed to the fans below the battery, wire rotted in half. Fixed that and it all works. owner cries about my diag fee (1.5) hours because the last shop charged them 1800 dollars for the parts and install.
did it need those parts? who knows. but none of them fixed the problem of the car overheating due to no fans. I stood firm on my diag. told them to get their old parts back from the other shop as they are probably good.

Who on earth watches your channel and derives from it 'lets cut some wires & shotgun parts'? I've been crawling over my 93 Honda Accord for almost 6 months chasing wires in my spare time (500 miles after a rebuild it just randomly died, something seems to be signaling the ECU to kill it). Just this morning I found a 'shark bite' tucked behind the fuse block in such a manner that someone had to removed the fuse block to place it. I don't know what witch craft proceeded me, but if I have to cry 'uncle' and have it towed to a professional like yourself, there won't be any cut/deleted wires.
