- Thinking about moving to Michigan? A lot of people have considered living in Michigan but don't know the truth about it. Lets take a look at the pros and cons of living in Michigan. These are things I've experienced or heard from people I've helped move to Michgian from states like California and Texas.
Moving to, from, or around Michigan? we can help: www.movingmi.com
We've helped hundreds of people make better decisions when moving to and from all areas of Michigan and are pretty good at it!

No sharks, no hurricanes, limited tornados and still have the water life!!!
True!!!
Concerning road construction, it IS all the time. It's also everywhere, in all directions. The unofficial state flower is the reflective orange barrel.
😂 that's kinda true. 🚧
I can now drive all the way to Traverse City on all new road. Not much construction around me this year. I think they are all done for awhile!
I'm 70 years old, live in Trenton and have lived in multiple cities in the downriver area my entire life. It took my adult life to appreciate Michigan. Love the 4 seasons along with the other pros you mentioned 😊
I’m from MI but live in TX. I HATE that we lost our basement when moving to TX 😩 The people in TX are clueless about how awesome basements are.
Agreed! a lot of people are afraid to go down into them.
And yet it's a far far better place to live and retire than the vast majority of other states.
Fences - we don't need no stinkin' fences! Snow is not a "con" - learn to live with it and enjoy it.
I moved to arkansas as kid. From up
We go to school in 3ft snow😅.
1st day of school in arkansas. Maybe 0.010 of inch snow fell ! Snow day ! We had no idea what snow day was 😅
hahahaha that's wild!
Insurance agent here: another CON you should have mentioned is the expensive auto insurance. Michigan is the most expensive in the country because we have Unlimited PIP Medical Coverage. And even if you buy down to $250K it’s still higher than almost every other state. Most states it’s between $5,000 and $25,000 in medical coverage if you get in an accident. But you don’t get the other benefits like OT/PT or lawn/snow service if you can’t do it cuz you were hurt in an accident.
I talk about that in a few other videos. Crazy how much we pay for auto insurance and most families have more than one car.
That's because we live by Canada and we have a hybrid insurance system that half mimics the US and half mimics Canada. It's expensive but it certainly keeps people covered.
Living in Chicago, where we often get the storms the day before Michigan, I find it funny when schools are closed in Michigan long before the weather even arrives. Chicago Public Schools seem to wait until there's at least a foot of snow WITH sub zero temps before they will close, while schools in Michigan won't take any chances and close even if it turns out to be a false alarm. I own a condo here and always intended to move back to Michigan one day to buy a house because the houses in Chicago cost much more. But Michigan's homes have really jumped up in price in recent years so I'm unsure of my plans now.
You're right. Michigan prices have jumped a TON! If you decide to make the move, reach out!
Michigan gets pounded with lake effect snow routinely. Yes, housing prices have gone up commensurate with most other states.
It does not actually suck, then, it's more like the in between of Cali and the east coast
after 70 years in michigan i would say that this last winter was the warmest with hardly any snow that i have seen. michigan is decent if you could fly south with the birds in at least december, january, february. if you live in the U.P. forget what i just said. so the worst part is dreary, cold, wet, snow, cloudy months of winter. come back april 1st to november and it is ok.
Agreed! I even considered selling my snowblower but I'm sure the second I do, we'll get more snow than ever before!
I remember golfing in December about 15-20 years ago. I wouldn't say it was the warmest at all, but consistently warmer year after year.
Paul, considering selling your snowblower is crazy talk, unless of course you want to contract it out for now on.
@@longmuskox4194 i just read a report that it was the 2nd warmest winter for michigan since records were kept.
I'm convinced if you can get away for some time between January and April, that Michigan is one of the very best places to live.
78 years old myself...I get so sick of the negative slams we get ,when every State has problems.
So hearing his cons is a bravo 👏🏻. My negative that Michigan is the 50 shades of GREY. See you during our Sunshine season.😅😅😅😅😅
I agree with u I was born here. But I agree with u.
Bro, love your vids. I do, but traffic out here is atrocious. I lived in Indiana, Fort Wayne area, and Ohio, greater Cleveland, and it's worse than both of those areas. I live on the far end of Novi, and it took me 45 plus minutes to get to the Dunkin that's also in Novi, due to construction and it being "rush hour", which is a great deal of the day. I'm sure it's less compared to most major metropolitan areas like, New York, Chicago, and Los Angeles, but it is way worse compared to nearby metro areas. Metro Detroit collectively is the second biggest metro area in the mid-west, and it shows in the traffic and extremely long commutes.
😅 yeah - I definitely mean compared to places like NY and LA - all of the people I help move here from those areas rave about how great the drive times are.
That’s because you are living on that side of town where everyone’s mom told them they were special. This attitude is especially true when driving.
I live in Clarkston and there's pretty much zero traffic unless there's a big concert.
Being a retired outside Sales Manager for 35 years, I could drive in my going for the Sales 100 miles on any given day everyday in God awful weather and
I find timing and weather is key in everything avoiding back ups and that one timid driver that keeps tapping that damn break and chain reaction. 😅😅😅
Michigan should eliminate the state income tax like Florida and Tennessee did in 2021.
VIRGINIA LOL CANT WAIT TO MOVE
Holy panel gaps Paul. Maybe it's time to service the Porsche?
😂😂 I had the hood popped. No gaps.
@@PaulWolfert Many of us now refer to that as the frunk. I know I do for my Tesla. But, you can call it what you want.
Help me, Paul! You're my only hope!
I'm moving my 76yo mother and self, both considered retired, back home to Michigan after 30+ years. We want to live in an old (and cheap, needs work kind of place) house or cabin in the woods...but the reports about certain illegal activities in the trees are kind of scaring us out of that. We don't know which area to move into -- we just know we want to live far enough away from the family so that they have to actually plan ahead to visit.😆 Which is the greater Detroit area.
In addition, Mom doesn't want to live anywhere in SW Michigan (?given me no logical explanation?) and I'm afraid to move anywhere too politically...um...divided. I'm thinking purple and neutral and calm. We're coming from Florida.🙄 Since neither of us have been home for decades we're having trouble separating fact from rumor. We know we probably can't go too rural for reasons mentioned and smaller cities that haven't yet been weaponized are perfectly fine.
I'm making us sound crazier than we actually are. I am aware of that.😅
TL;DR Upper or lower doesn't matter; woodsy, cheap and safe are the priorities. Any chance there's a region with our name on it?
What illegal activities?
@@Mr.Smith101 Rhymes with Beth. The only thing that really scares me about the woods.
@@Mr.Smith101 Hmmm...my comment disappeared. Let's try it this way: It rhymes with Beth. That's the only thing that truly scares me about the woods.
Port Huron, thumb area. 60 minutes from Detroit on the freeway. End of I-94. On Lake Huron.
@@breecampbell3829 Thank you so much! That's really helpful. Mom's always loved the thumb.
Because of Whitmer, I will not be moving to MI, but I may visit.
Thank goodness she’s keeping the nutballs out.
lol 😂

Worst governor in Michigan history
Nickname "Hiltlers Sister "
my lake is gone wixom lake. Beaverton area baycity. housing is cheap because the lake is a river small river people are abandoning these once lake homes, look like something from the apocalypse, 40 miles of lakes gone
I thought those lakes were eventually coming back?
Detroit it's entire history has had the worst transit system of any metro city of its size.
The headlines on your videos make Detroit and all of Michigan look horrible. If I was considering moving there I would never even watch the vid after reading the headline..Why do you do that?? It seems like you are selling things in MI but you tell people how horrible it is before they can view the "information" - You're advertising it to be a very bad bad place to go or live...
Thanks for the feedback! Hope you watched a few 🙂 Unfortunately, that's the way CZcams works. Negative thumbnails outperform positive ones BUT, the information isn't negative. I've made a lot of positive thumbnails and the videos completely tank until I change them.
Detroit Michigan LEAVING 1967 riot lost 50% of white people i was there
I've lived in Michigan for 67 years now.
The 2 worst things about Michigan are Detroit (Don't go there)and its governor.
