I'm a 56 yr old man whose never knitted in his life. I was desperate for a scarf like Tom Baker's Dr Who (my favourite Dr) so I thought I'd better learn. This was THE clearest tutorial I have come across! It's amazing. My scarf is now six inches long! Only 12 feet to go!!

This is a wonderful video and got me knitting in no time! A few tips based on my personal experience....
1) Use needles at least this big or bigger. I started out with smaller ones and it was way more difficult
2) Use white or light-colored yarn. I was using black at first and it was impossible to see what was going on
3) Loosen up! I was knitting so so tight at first, I could barely push the needle through. I think this channel has another video about tight knitting, but the main thing that helped me was making sure I wasn't knitting on the tips of the needles. Drag every stitch down the needle a bit so it's sitting on the widest point.

I used a needle 2 sizes smaller than hers and it works ok for me

I'd consider myself an advanced intermediate knitter. Im autistic and severely disabled by autoimmune disease and have too much time to get addicted/obsessed with things. Knitting is my life now and its made my life so much more incredible.

I have made so much progress since learning from this video and my life revolves around spinning yarn, dyeing it, and knitting it into cool stuff to sell and gift. It has made my life worth living and given me newfound purpose. I have been sick since childhood and am a disabled 30 year old now with autism so before knitting I felt listless and without something to put my heart into. Life is great now. :) I can't believe its only been 10 months since I learned how to knit!

I just finished my first scarf and I’m so proud! I kept coming back to your videos for instructions. And let me tell you that I haven’t found anyone here on CZcams that teaches as well as you! You repeat the instructions, move your hands slowly, it’s amazing to learn. Some people will teach already moving so fast I can never catch up. I’m also left handed so everything is mirrored and it takes me longer. So thank you very much for helping me accomplish my scarf!!!!

Hey Mercy! I would start with this video. It goes through the basics of knitting: the cast on, the cast off and the knit stitch. With these three skills, you can make your first scarf! This is the project that most new knitters will start with. As for materials, you'll need yarn, needles and your own two hands! Head to your local craft store and choose a yarn that you like. I recommend a chunky weight yarn because it's easier to work with. Then, look at the yarn's label. It will give you a recommended needle size. Choose a pair of needles within this range. I’m (unfortunately) not Sheep & Stitch, but remember to tug on the yarn that’s connected to your ball of yarn every time you make another stitch, and when making your first row, remember to be consistent with the amount of space in between your knots. Another tip is to make sure that your knitting is all lined up and not in a twist. ♥️

OMG, THIS is the tutorial I should have watched before I started my first scarf! So easy to follow. Love how it used thick yarn to teach you how to knit, in other videos I had to squint and replay for god knows how many times. This is the best video for beginners. Currently finishing my first chunky scarf, started completely from scratch 4 days ago and let me tell you: big needles and thick yarn makes ALL the difference for beginners. I tried learning knitting before with thin needles and yarn and simply couldn't learn, specially the knit stitch. Once I learned it in the thick yarn I could do easily on the thin needle and yarn. This video was literally the most helpful one I watched.
I like your explanation of the backward loop cast on. This method is so much easier for a beginner like me. Thanks for making the video.
Same for me, I took a class at JoAnn Fabrics and I couldn't get it. I just finished my second scarf.

Here’s a great tip for all new knitters. I ended up using multi coloured yarn. With size 10 bamboo. The multi colours i found really helped in seeing any potential mistakes and if I accidentally dropped a stitch I easily picked it up again. Because each row was a different shade or colour. If I used a one colour yarn I wouldn’t of been able to see it. The wood also stops slipping.

Really love how you teach. I am a crocheter and decided to learn how to knit as well. You make knitting very easy and fun. I have always thought knitting was difficult, but after watching your video, I realised knitting is even easier than crocheting 😄. Thank you hun😘
After watching so many tutorials I have found this one the most easy to understand. My first one was a mess I somehow kept adding stitches or skipping them. After practicing and replaying the parts I didn't understand I was able to finish my first scarf. Currently working on a second one thanks to this video!

Wish I could post a photo of the scarf I just finished after watching your video tutorial. As someone who taught herself to crochet many years ago, I have been trying to teach myself to knit and even finished a few small projects le headbands. After watching your video I was able to complete my own scarf with a soft velvety type yarn. Thank you. PS.... I'm left handed!!!!

I am watching this so i could make one for a friend of mine since he’ll be leaving the country soon and go to UK. I like him ever since we’ve known each other and I confessed to him my feelings but was rejected. 😅 I wanted to give him this as a goodbye and thank you gift. Even though i am hurt by being rejected, i will always love him no matter what. Hope he’ll keep it... 😊 dont get me wrong, we’re in really good terms and very close friend still 😊 Thank you so much for this tutorial! It really helped!

As someone who’s very first knitting tutorial was this video, thank you. I’ve left knitting for crocheting since I find crocheting much more enjoyable and gives you freedom to do so many more projects I thank you for shooting me on the journey bc if I never learned to knit I would’ve never learned to crochet
