HOLY SHIT!!! THANK YOU SO MUCH! I've literally been trying to start learning to knit, but no matter what books I bought and read, or videos I watched, I could NOT figure it out. You are a sanity saver, and I can not thank you enough! I have been regretting not learning from my grandma since she passed 2 years ago. When I was young, she always did the cast ons for me, and I only remember the basic knit stitch. I've made several attempts, but none worked until now.
