Definitely keep the 327 motor in it, that will still keep its value more solid than changing to an LS. Besides that is a 60's block and a 327 is still a good motor especially with a 4sp.
Hey Parker, we have similar stories. I still own my 69 Camaro that I bought when I was 15 yrs. old in 1985. In all those years I've only put 2,200 miles on it! Enjoy watching your channel!
LOVE those 1960s gold colors under a black vinyl top!!! I'd keep the 327, and hop it up a bit - the LS has become the Small Block Chevy of our day, to the point that it's actually refreshing to see an SBC in a car like that. Hmm, I always thought that the 'filler' panel between the grill and bumper was supposed to be an argent color.
I live outside of Harrisburg, in 1984, I was in 10th grade, in the local “farm paper” classifieds, a small ad said “67 Mustang with parts….200$..”. I bought a 1967 Fastback, original 390 4 speed, loaded with extra parts, and I also got a 289 with a 4speed top loader with it for an extra 100$. That was my daily driver for many years……currently working on a 1965 fastback….! Love the channel…..!
I live outside of Mt carmel Pennsylvania mine was a 76 trans am still have it . Have a 69 mach 1 428scj and currently working on a 65 mustang for the wife
Parker I personally would not LS swap that particular car. From the video it looks pretty unmolested. I'd find one that wasn't that original. Just my thoughts
I have really learned a lot about 69 cameras watching you on CZcams. I previously had had a 69 coupe but I would like to own a 69 SS in the future, you have truly given me some things to look for to know that I'll be buying a true SS car not a fake, thank you 👍
Nice video Parker. My first car was also a Camaro, a 1967 Camaro. My mom purchased it in 1966 at Fletcher Chevrolet on the corner of Ventura Blvd and Hayvenhurst in Encino, in the San Fernando Valley, in Los Angeles. I was 10 years old then and I went with her to buy it new. She asked me and my sister to look through all the Camaros for sale and try to find one with a bench seat and air conditioning. I found the one she bought. It was royal blue with a 327, two barrel carb, and a power glide. It had the bench seat, black interior and air. It was clearly a plane jane. I went on my first dates in the car, first drive in and my first you know what in the back seat. Not a lot of room for that there. First time I went over 100 mph was in that car. Pretty much the first time for everything in that car. My mom promised me that I could have it after leaving the military but she gave it to my brother instead. He restored it and then it was stolen. About 6 months later they found the shell in an open field and it had been beat on and shot up. Stripped of everything, just like the shells you purchase and tow home. That was the end of that car. A sad day for our family. Your extremely knowledgeable and its interesting how you know about every hole in the firewall. I do the same with Thunderbirds. They are a bit simpler than the Chevys but still the same kind of thing, you can see what options came with the car just by the firewall. Bolt holes in the inner fender wells for options too tell a big story as well. Thanks.
Great video! The passenger side has a cable and drivers side has a bracket that bolts to front exhaust manifold with a small cable attached to A arm. I have this setup on my 69 SS. It's called a stop lift kit. All your videos are great!!!
I am from Pittsburgh pennsylvania great video. I drove a 1978 z28 in high-school. I am 53 years now. I sold the car in the early 90's but was very lucky to find another 78 z in code 34 yellow orange and 30 years later I still have the car and enjoy taking it to car cruises.
My 69 Camaro also has the braided wire strap on the driver's side motor mount. These were to hold and brace the motor from excess movement on all the V8 motors. You have a nice car. Thanks for sharing so much info on Camaros. I'm the 2nd. owner of mine and have had it since 1999. It's a base model with X11 trim, LeMans blue with black vynal top. Love your channel! Great content:)
Parker, great video's. My first car at age 17 in 1975 was a 1969 Dodge Charger with 57,000 miles. 383 Magnum with an automation on the center console. (I later removed the automatic transmission and installed a 4 speed). I paid $1,200 for the car. I owned the car for about a year and a half and sold it in June of 1976 for $1,000. I still have the bill of sale and the spread sheet. The car is long gone. Had I only known what I had at the time I obviously would have never sold it. Keep the videos coming.
I received a service notice in 1970 from Chevrolet for my '69 Z/28, to replace the original motor mounts with the new design interlocking mounts. The work was performed N/C by my local Chevrolet dealer.
New viewer of your channel. On the mount recall, my 67 Camaro was eligible. I bought my car in 1970, and me being an aggressive driver would break the driver side mount about every 3 months. When the engine lifts, it jams the throttle where it is, pulls the vacuum hose off of the brake booster and locks the shifter against the console. I have a competition plus shifter that is directly mounted to the muncie. You turn the key off and the motor drops back in where it belongs. I notified by chevy that parts were available. Because the mount was broke again and I waited so long to get it recalled, they put in the 69 "Z" mount that was beefier and had a catch setup. That mount lasted for years before I did a restoration in 1980. I still own the car presently and plan on another restoration again. She is a convertible with the 275 hp 327. I am not changing anything on the rebuild, original as possible is my goal.
Bought my 68 Camaro when I was 15 also, it was my first car and I still own it after 25 yrs. I saved my Penny's for 3 years just to get it and I will never sell it, it is my baby
Love your videos Parker in 1971 I worked at a small Chevy dealership in Kentucky and I put a whole lot of those motor mount kits on they went around the upper control arm on the driver side and then attached to the exhaust manifold it kept the throttle from jamming wide open if the motor mount broke
Hi from Australia. Only just found this video. Parker I have a 69 Nova fitted with the wire band you mentioned. 350SS car. L48/3 spd Muncie with 12 bolt posi. Fortunate to have paperwork from original sale and protecto plate. Currently restoring it. Car was purchased from Daugherty Chevrolet Kingsport Tennessee. Keep up the great work with the channel. More Novas please!!
That's a nice camaro man. 69 is a hard car to find anymore,. Id suggest to just clean it back up and drive it like you did in high school. There's plenty of LS 69 camaros in the world already. But its your car build how you choose! Congrats on hitting 1000 subs you got there really quick! Have a good one Buddy 👍
My highschool car was a fixer upper 1971 Plymouth Duster. Paid 600 bucks for it and man it was rough. It did have bucket seats and a floor console which pretty much sold me on it. Bought it in the summer of 1981 and my Dad and I fixed it all up so that when I turned 16 in the fall of 81 she was ready to go. So wished I still had it in reality it was a bit of a clunker when we started but my Dad put a ton of time in it to make it pretty special. The connection to my Dad is what makes it so desireable to me and wishful I still owned it!
I had one of those engine mount cable assemblies on a 69 that had a 307 in it. I changed the engine out and kept the assembly. I still have it in my collection of car crap.
That's a beauty, I personally like old school, I wouldn't go with an LS. But that's me I've owned and restored a few Camaros and 69's are my favorites I own a 68 right now and I like what you said about the rear spoiler, never thought of that one I'm going to check mine tomorrow to see if it's centered since I restored it myself thank you for that advice and God bless you!
That's a good story on the dealer models sold on eBay. My son actually did this with his old Legos one summer doing a ton of research before selling characters or blocks. He made several thousand dollars that summer selling these things. He's grown up to be quite the car nut putting a ton of time and money into a Honda S2000. Great channel and I'm happy I subscribed after seeing the first one.
Hey Parker, I always look forward to your new videos. You are an encyclopedia of vintage iron information! Personally I would keep your Camaro just the way it is beside refreshing up suspension, current engine and trans ,body, undercarriage etc. It looks great the way it along with its current power plant.
Hello Parker, my first car when I was senior in High School was a 69 RS/Z28. It was a drag car that previous owner from Long Island NY had built. It had a 4 bolt main small block out of a 66 chevelle. Speed Equipment World in Long Island built it with 11 to 1 pistons double bump heads and GM 7140 off road cam. M20 trans and 4:88 gears. The best ET at National Speedway in Center Moriches Long Island NY was 12:08. Remember I was 17 and didn't know shit about engines let alone cars. The crew I hung out with in the Throggs Neck section of the Bronx NY were all 5 to 12 years older than me so I needed to keep up with them. LOL My good friend Steve Schaefer who had the gathering place when all the guys hung out. He was the one who checked out the car for me!! That car was a blast to drive and very dangerous for a 17 year old to have as his first car!! It also got 4 to 5 miles to the gallon! So I sold the Z28 3 month's after I purchased it in late March of 1975. I have had the Chevy performance addition since then. I've had at lease 2 dozen chevy performance car since then. I would love to recreate that car again!! The problem is real 1969 Camaro Z28 are 125 to 150K. Clones in great shape are 60 to 70K!! They are out of control at the moment. Hopefully soon I will try to find one at a better price?? LOL.
Parker man i like all your videos. Yes I'm way older than you but I really like to see young guys appreciate muscle cars. I have a 1969 x22 camaro myself. Big block long gone, but perfectly rust free
Hello 👋 David here from Sebring Florida, I been a Camaro fan since I was a boy 👦 Did you know that in 1967 they made a cut away Camaro, to show how well it was made. I saw it at our local shopping center in California, I was very impressed! When I was older I got different years Camaro’s including a new 2000 Camaro. My question is have you ever driven a straight 6 1967 Camaro with Automatic Transmission? What was it like? I don’t like to go fast but I always liked the look of the 1967 Camaro. I now drive a 20O7 Chevy Trailblazer, 6 cylinder, automatic, I know I am kind of a dull guy 😊lol 😂
Just found your channel enjoyed it. My first car was 1970 Chevelle wasn't nice car typical PA. car body was rusty and was full of puddy, but I loved that car. I have owned lots of Camaro's over the years. First car I ever restored was 1967 Camaro RS. I'm looking foward to more videos in the future have a great day keep up the good work.
Im a fellow Pennsylvanian and a Mopar guy. I know a little bit here and there about other manufacturers. Your videos came up on a recommendation, so I watched them and enjoyed the content to the point I subscribed. I enjoy learning and I enjoyed your teaching. I dont easily subscribe to channels so thank you
The main thing I look at on a 69 z28 when somebody has repainted it is …if they paint the stripes on correct… I’ve seen so many beautiful paint jobs and then see the stripes painted on wrong.. it just ruins the whole paint job…. Thanks buddy…
Parker, you asked about the motor mount problem with camaros and it was a problem with GM cars throuhout the 60's, i've seen chevrolets of all models with this motor mount repair. GM had a kit available over the parts counter to install that took care of the recall. I used to have some of the N.O.S. kits but sold them years ago, there were a couple different kinds one was like yours with just the cable and there was one that had a metal bracket that bolted to the exhaust manifold and a short cable went through the horizontal bar on the upper a-frame of the suspension. I first saw one on my dads 63 SS Impala when I was a kid. So this problem was close to a decade long apparently.
Hard to believe that such a serious Camaro enthusiast as yourself would not have at least placed a dust cover on such an important part of your heritage.
Nice video I'd probably put a old school 383 stroker small block in just a thought? Have fun with your ride. Looking forward to seeing the end result!!!
My first car was a 1970 base model Camaro. Gold with white vinyl top and white interior. I believe it had a 307 from the factory but had a 350 installed by the time I bought it with a 350 turbo transmission.
I was a lot boy in the mid 70's, and finally saved up enough to buy my first car in 1977, a '67 GTO coupe, not a hardtop. it was a little rough, but not too rusty. only options on it were a 4 speed, console, and AM radio...nothing else. a 327 is pretty good engine...i'd say build that up instead of modding it...go old-school day 2 and you'd have a pretty sweet ride.
My first car was a R code 69 Mach1. I worked for my dad, he brought it home on a car dolly and yes the motor was blown lol. Eventually I got into a 67 coupe It was some kind of special edition car it was factory 4 the body code was 65B and the paint code said special.
My 1969 Impala (327/235) had them defective Motor Mounts and mine was broke on the drivers side. It popped the brake booster Vacuum line and stuck the throttle (open) and dropped the Shift linkage into First while trying to do a Burn-Out. I replaced the Mount and attached a piece of chain as a back up.
I still have my 2nd or 3rd and last Camaro I’ve had for 30 years (can’t remember how many I’ve actually had, I know I used to have a 67). Yeah LS motors are nice and really more efficient but I still love the original small blocks, easy to work on, simple and parts availability is great!
I bought my first hot rod in 1977 as a body only, no motor, no transmission, no rear end, from a guy who was done drag racing it, for 450 bucks delivered! Bought a green on green rusted out 1969 Camaro SS 350 4-speed close ratio Muncie for $150, pulled and dropped it into the drag car, bought a 4:10 12 bolt posi rear end and assembled my first hot rod at 17 years old with no driver’s license and it still had line-lock in it and traction bars. How do I post a picture of it for you?
Hey, Parker! I’m in the same situation with my ‘70 Chevelle. I’ve had it for more than 30 years and have enjoyed hopping up the original 350. I’m also considering an LS swap (my suburban has a 6.0 in it). When it comes down to it, it’s your car. Do what you want. It’s not a Z-28 or an SS, so keeping it original doesn’t offer the same value as if it was a rare package. That being said, also consider that an LS swap is not like dropping in a big block… it’s a major conversion! Whatever you decide, it’ll be good. By the way, I sent a DM over on your Instagram account. 👍🏼
Doesn't need to be a nut and bolt restoration but a beautiful car to ls swap. Stay true to it's roots and make it modern maybe with efi and overdrive maybe a gear vendor
Hey Parker, do you only do cars from the 60-ties and 70-ties or do you do cars from the 80-ties as well? I own a 1987 Chevrolet Camaro, Z28 Irco-Z Convertible, 305 V8, 5 gear manual, of which only 744 were made in 1987...
I have several comments... First off, congrats on painting the stripes exactly how they would have been on a '69 Z. It is so rare to see correct stripes. Black out your taillight panel. I'm going to do mine, but possibly have it done with a wrap just in case. I have a '68 Z, and it has a 302, but I always liked the blacked out panel reserved for the big block cars. I love the gold color and the fact that the bowtie emblems are still on the car, and if you LS it, so be it. I might do mine. I'm tired of smelling like exhaust fumes every time I start my car. There's nothing like a fuel injected engine and the cleaner emissions that come with them. Beautiful car you have!
@@backyardbarnfindsParker do whatever you "need to do" in order to put this sweetheart back on the road and have your butt enjoying the open road in her. It's really not about the money with a car like yours it's all about the driving experience and all the great folks you will meet when you stop off for gas or at the variety store.
I love 69 Camaros and has two SS cars, one RS big block car and a phantom green 307... and one 68 you can see them in my car crazy video if you want to look. The 69 Camaro is probably my favorite car but it might be edged out by the 67 Chevelle simply because I had a stellar example that I bought off my Grandpa. Nice video and a very cool car for a youngster..... it's neat that you still own it!!!
Hello...I own a 1969 SS/RS 350 ci. I bought from the original owner in June 1982...Cortez Silver with Drk Blue standard interior...Took first place with the Camaro at "Super Chevy" for best original that's how nice this car is...also a note on the "Hold Down on the motor mount "That was on the right side" Because of it being an AC car which is correct. I noticed that you camaro is a 12A car...at that time the "Short Spoiler" was what would have come with the Camrao if that option was ordered. There is still discussion on when the longer spoiler became the standard "Option"....Also this is a Arizona car...Bought right here in Tucson and has been here ever since new. I am now doing a full restoration and have a ways to go.
Enjoyed video ! A numbers matching Camaro would be worth more money. You have a nice straight body 69 Camaro there. My first car 67 Coronet RT 440ci 375 hp. Air shock deep dish Cragers that I paid cash for it from mowing yards. Looking forward to more of your videos.
Buddy, please don't swap the engine out! Finding a number matching car, engine, and trans is getting hard to find unless you have deep, deep pockets! If you ever decided to part with it, you would definitely get more for it like it is! In my opinion, too many LS swapping these days!
I sub’ed like any orange blooded GM dude should. Great job on vid! Love the history on any cars. And don’t listen to anybody except yourself for what you wanna do. Just do it bud! Btw I’m 55 and in 1985 my Senior year I had a ‘70 nova, but wanted a C4 Vette. We GenX’ers are funny like that
Cool! I really like how you sold promo cars to get your money! I am 15 years old and to restore my 3 opel gts I parted out a 1960 VW bus that I got for free from a Great uncle that didn't know how crazy Vw parts are. Do you by chance have any opel promo cars?
I also have an early 69 Camaro that has the short cowl tag on it. I would say with the short tag you can easily fake the car. The only bad thing is if you have a true car it's hard to prove it with a short tag. Your only hope would be to have a build sheet.
Just my two cents but edlbrock makes the pro flow four fi system makes an old school small block run more like a late model fix your a/c ad the fi have a good time !
You have the original engine in it and you'd be a fool to pull that and drop in an LS engine. Restore it and make it like new, or if you want to hotrod it, then sell it, get another '69 Camaro with no originality, and put an LS engine in it. You can liven the 327 up if you want, but removing it is a collector car crime.
Just about every side mound small block Chevy car from the mid to late 1960s had the motor mount repair kit. It was a cheap solution. You were better off as a Chevy owner to completely replace the motor mounts.
@@backyardbarnfindsI remember my friend in 1975, owned a 1967 Camaro SS with the L48 350 and he told me this was a Camaro engine. The Chevelle, Vette and Nova kept the 327 with more HP output. In 1968, I believe the Vette and Chevelle stuck with the 327 and Nova was available for the L48. In 1969, Chevrolet took the performance 327 off the table and then all three cars got the 350 mill as a option. A neighbor of mine, still has her 1971 Nova SS that she ordered and it has the L48 engine. I personally owned a 1969 Camaro RS/SS with the 350…. A fast ride. The point being not many young people know the 350 was built specifically for the Camaro introduction year of 1967.
@@backyardbarnfinds kinda hard not to want to go LS with the performance you get from one. Plus it makes the value go up these days. I'm struggling with the same decision for my 69 with a 350 4spd

I have a build that might be a little more interesting… stay tuned
I'm 50. My first car was a 1949 Chevrolet two door fastback. So I started early with old cars. I now own Novas.
LOL.
Ya never know, if I come across any other Z cars i'll keep you in mind! Thanks for your Story! -Parker
Yay
Parker man i like all your videos. Yes I'm way older than you but I really like to see young guys appreciate muscle cars. I have a 1969 x22 camaro myself. Big block long gone, but perfectly rust free
I had a 69 Camaro with a factory 307 that I bought in 1990. It had the cable to hold the engine.
Nice video. Thank you for taking the time to make it.
My first car was a 1971 Cutlass. Not too many Olds-specific channels out there.
Im a fellow Pennsylvanian and a Mopar guy. I know a little bit here and there about other manufacturers. Your videos came up on a recommendation, so I watched them and enjoyed the content to the point I subscribed. I enjoy learning and I enjoyed your teaching. I dont easily subscribe to channels so thank you
Thank you for Supporting the Channel!
The main thing I look at on a 69 z28 when somebody has repainted it is …if they paint the stripes on correct… I’ve seen so many beautiful paint jobs and then see the stripes painted on wrong.. it just ruins the whole paint job…. Thanks buddy…
I'm in PA. Have my 1967 Camaro convertible. My high school car. Have had it since 1985. And I just turned 50
Not even close to the worse thing don’t with that car lol 😂
I've seen a few late 60's Chevy with a factory cable that went from an exhaust manifold bolt to the frame. Only on the driver side.
Well my first car was a hand me down. 62 Valiant. I drove it thru high school but the summer after I graduated I bought my 69 Z/28.
Pop the hood on any 69 impala and you'll see the little cable they bolted on for the bad motor mounts.
Haven’t come across the chain modification yet lol
69 Impala had the straps on the motor mount
I had a 67 and a 68 both with the engine mount straps. Was told it was a recall and over the counter part to add yourself.
I still have my 2nd or 3rd and last Camaro I’ve had for 30 years (can’t remember how many I’ve actually had, I know I used to have a 67). Yeah LS motors are nice and really more efficient but I still love the original small blocks, easy to work on, simple and parts availability is great!
That’s awesome would of love to drive 69 camaro to high school but I did drive a 1979 camaro Z28 and it was my first car and I still have it
I bought my first hot rod in 1977 as a body only, no motor, no transmission, no rear end, from a guy who was done drag racing it, for 450 bucks delivered!
Hi Parker, can you recommend a builder/restoration garage for Camaros? 1st and 2nd Gen.
Thanks, Paul
Thanks man!.. I’ve just driven newer cars my whole life and would like this to feel the same
@@backyardbarnfindsParker do whatever you "need to do" in order to put this sweetheart back on the road and have your butt enjoying the open road in her.
My 69 had 2 fingers on each side of the spoiler… a holdover from 68
What is the Build date on your Camaro Mine is 01B Van Nuys car with a short spoiler...Thank you Jim
@@jimkubiak8807 oh unfortunately I sold it years ago. Would love to find it but I don’t have the vin.
Thanks Bill have a couple good ones planned stay tuned
Buddy, please don't swap the engine out! Finding a number matching car, engine, and trans is getting hard to find unless you have deep, deep pockets! If you ever decided to part with it, you would definitely get more for it like it is! In my opinion, too many LS swapping these days!
I sub’ed like any orange blooded GM dude should. Great job on vid! Love the history on any cars. And don’t listen to anybody except yourself for what you wanna do. Just do it bud! Btw I’m 55 and in 1985 my Senior year I had a ‘70 nova, but wanted a C4 Vette. We GenX’ers are funny like that
I have a 69 Camaro that had that engine tie down. also is a gold car.
Your car should have an X code on the rear bulkhead. My October 1968 Norwood built 1969 Z had X7 on the bulkhead.
Yes plz watch my Z/28 expert video that explains this same thing
mine first car I drove to school was 1976 Ford Granada and yes I said a Ford than I had second car it was 1983 Cadillac coupe Deville
Cool! I really like how you sold promo cars to get your money! I am 15 years old and to restore my 3 opel gts I parted out a 1960 VW bus that I got for free from a Great uncle that didn't know how crazy Vw parts are. Do you by chance have any opel promo cars?
Unfortunately, don’t have any Opels.. I’ll keep an eye out for ya tho! 3 of them at 15… dang!
I’d return it back to original except for your spoiler and cowl hood. It’s pretty unmolested. It’s a very nice Camaro.
I also have an early 69 Camaro that has the short cowl tag on it. I would say with the short tag you can easily fake the car. The only bad thing is if you have a true car it's hard to prove it with a short tag. Your only hope would be to have a build sheet.
My first car a 1969 Firebird and drove it daily back in the 80s. Love F bodies all gens and espessially Camaros!
Nice car Btw Following the build.
I would keep the original motor Sir!!
Just my two cents but edlbrock makes the pro flow four fi system makes an old school small block run more like a late model fix your a/c ad the fi have a good time !
Looking to drive back n forth down the highway for travel.. build is coming soon!
Wash that car men!
I would put a big block 4 Speed for sure if it was me 100%
That cable was on allot those cars. just a safety item,
You have the original engine in it and you'd be a fool to pull that and drop in an LS engine. Restore it and make it like new, or if you want to hotrod it, then sell it, get another '69 Camaro with no originality, and put an LS engine in it. You can liven the 327 up if you want, but removing it is a collector car crime.
I wouldn't butcher the 69er the 327 is a decent engine I say if is not broken dont fixit imo
Is it possibly for sale
Please, no LS swap :- )
Please consider restoring this Camero to original.
Small block 400
CTSV swap that sucker!! Definitely
Just about every side mound small block Chevy car from the mid to late 1960s had the motor mount repair kit. It was a cheap solution. You were better off as a Chevy owner to completely replace the motor mounts.
No LS . PUT A 396 OR 427 N/A .
Hey guys I have an engine from a 69 Camaro in Pittsburgh Pa. From the info on the block it's from a 350/350hp, 4spd car. What car would that be?
I would say it's an L46 350/350hp out of a corvette, what is the Suffix code on the front pad?
Very nice car. Dont chop it up. And I left the grille black, I think it looks better.......
Silver looks better really
L would leave the 327 in her. Looks good the way it is.
Ditto on No LS. Personal opinion only
Haven’t decided yet Mark.. truly is a tough choice…
@@backyardbarnfinds kinda hard not to want to go LS with the performance you get from one. Plus it makes the value go up these days. I'm struggling with the same decision for my 69 with a 350 4spd
Hd polyurathane motor mounts in mine...broke ones arent fun at all
Yes please paint the grill...that really bugs me when I see that...😣
Don't do an LS away on this car!!
Early cars used spoilers from 68 cars..so the bigger gap from the end of the spoiler to quarter edge is correct..
So we can really tell what Chevy motor was installed at the factory?
1... Why is that beautiful car so dirty? Does it not run anymore?
2. Please don't LS Swap such a nice car.
3. What else ya got in that barn?
The BEST Camaro website is CRG. You can learn more than you ever wanted to know about first Gen Camaros there
Dude man dont Ls swap it....put a big block in. ...there is to many cars rueind by ls swaps... if it is a shell mabey...but dont tear apart a complete running car ....i live in wilkes barre pa...if im close to you reach out
