The Knack were one the most under-rated rock n roll bands of all time..people couldn't or didn't want to look past My Sharona..if you bothered you found such treasures..The world is a much lesser place without Doug & Bruce, Berton & Prescott are the keepers of the flame. Long may The Knack live forever on you tube!
I know what you mean about my Sharona but I never had a problem with it at all and I just kept right on digging them throughout their career although I’ll admit I didn’t buy any of the releases after the little girls understand record
Hear, hear! I‘ve been saying that for as long as I can remember, definitely one of the most underrated bands in the history of rock‘n‘roll. And as far as covers go, I rate their cover of Buddy Holly‘s “Heartbeat” as one of the greatest covers of all time, right up there alongside Hendrix’s cover of “All Along The Watchtower.”
i gotta say...this is a tough song to cover. most bands butcher it, its such a perfect record. but these guys nail it, they get the spirit of the song, and give it the energy it deserves. very nice that they put in a third harmony voice in extra places, too. kudos.
Glad to see this here. I was the guy who put out the Tribute to Badfinger CD with this Knack cut on it. It ended up being Bruce Gary's last recorded performance with the band, and they did a great version. Doug was always very nice on the phone with me, and just a grateful person. Sad that Bruce and Doug are gone, but they lived the pop life we all just dreamed about in our bedroom with headphones.
I'd completely agree on Doug's demeanor, gregarious and cordial..ran into Doug at the NAMM show in Anaheim probably around 2006. He truly gave you the time of day especially if you wanted to talk music. This track is quite difficult to reproduce as Pete Ham's vocals were simply untouchable. Though I respect the Knack's choice of Badfinger tunes, I don't believe this cover does the song much justice.
I must agree with the comment about the boys' attitudes. I had chance to meet them on their tour in 1979 and their last tour. In '79 a few friends and I (high on just forming our first teen-age band) got around back and caught them when they came out of the venue. They were very nice to a bunch of kids who could do nothing for them and whose money they had already taken. They spent a minute or so giving handshakes and taking pictures, and even gave us some advice in being in a band The last tour, they were sitting at a table doing the obligatory meet and greet, they never made it seem like they were simply doing it because they had to, Prescott found out I was a bassist and told me to hang out and we talked gear and technique while he signed. Great buncha guys
I been binge watching knack shows and interviews.the last few days . I was a big fan when they put out there iconic album wish I would have seen them live.most of the songs are about girls and some provocative lyrics. Which was kinda risky back then but it definitely worked its sad Doug and Bruce past would have been great for a reunion show. .
Induct them into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. They are my life story during the last months ,I lived in Pinehurst Estates-Lakehurst ,New Jersey circa 1979.WPLJ -NEW YORKS BEST ROCK.WMMR -HOME OF PHILADELPHIA ,PENNSYLVANIA'S ROCK & ROLL ANIMALS.Rowena Suarez of Manchester Township ,New Jersey y San Diego ,California
I used to think The Knack was basically My Sharona and Good Girls Don't. But after watching every live performance on youtube, I've come to the realization that they were actually the best cover band ever.
DOUG/PRESCOTT/BERTON...Drummer Bruce Gary had died that year but did play on the original song back in 1996 which was his last recording with the band.......

If you discounted My Sharona, the Knack and Doug Fieger should STILL be superstars and in the R&R Hall of Fame!
Awesome! One great power pop band pays homage to another! RIP Doug.......

Say what you will but The Knack had skills.
Una de mis bandas top ten en mi vida, nunca bien ponderada como se merece
The best cover EVER!!!

Because Rock/pop is not new anymore. There was nothing more exciting when it was young...
I just saw he died in 2010. That's a shocker!
@flashback225 HOLY CRAP! You're right!
Love The Knack, when did Simon Tam become there bass player?
What original band members are here?
Gosh! That was impressive. To be honest I've always though of The Knack as a cheap ripoff of Paul Collins' Beat. Not after seeing this.
Good but misses the high harmony that makes it scream
Great band, but on this number, nothing can approach the original.
Give Jellyfish’s live cover a listen
I love Badfinger and think Pete Ham would approve ... I had goosebumps watching this ...
Good, but Jellyfish do it even better...
