@@thanosdarkseid8695, they're not playing it. They're watching footage of the game that was edited to show the important parts. A good chunk of us still really enjoy it even if whoever DID edit the footage makes mistakes sometimes.
I don't know if you have but you should watch the Sam and his older brother scenes as they are different from the show. I like the game version better.

I don't care people saying he was selfish and whatever bullshit, he did what anyone (including the haters) would've done and that is save her. Joel cared about her so much Ellie was second chance at being a father and Joel was Ellie's first chance at having a father. He did what any father would've done and we all know that. @@TNTGamingonlineyeah people were really upset, it was kinda 50/50. Personally I would have done what Joel did. There is no guarantee that any doctor would have been able to make other people immune. People have tried in real life with other diseases to make immunizations, with little to no success. Also the fireflies were just gonna cut her open in an attempt to make a vaccine, they didn’t even explain it to Ellie they just drugged her prepped her for surgery. If it was an adult who volunteered I wouldn’t stop it. They didn’t even give Ellie the choice, and again no guarantee it would even work.
@@juannavejas6510Joel didn’t give her a choice either though, and that’s the sad thing about it. Everyone took away Ellie’s autonomy and everyone made bad decisions with in their minds justifiable causes.
@@lotus2001 that’s fair. But the fireflies were worse, since they were just gonna cut her open. In a perfect world she would have been give a choice, I wouldn’t like it if she decided to go with the surgery but I would have accepted it. Joel may have lied so she could have live, but the worse option was death in a surgery for an attempt to make a vaccine that had basically next to no chance at success

Hands down, the best game of all time, and one of the greatest story in any medium.
I don't care what people say, I still don't see Joel in the wrong there. After everything him and Ellie been through and the bond that they grew to build, it would have been unrealistic if he had chosen to walk away. Not to mention, they didn't even let Ellie wake up and make a decision for herself and if that's what she truly wanted, she had the right to tell Joel goodbye and have a proper sendoff. However, there actually was no cure, only assumptions and theories. They never ran any tests and they didn't show any type of proof that it was going to work. Even the doctor basically said it at the University on the tape recorder, "good luck with still trying to save the world." There was no saving humanity with just one little girl. The infection already spread across the state and its possibly 100 of thousands of infected, clickers, stalkers, and bloaters, so there was no saving that. Especially, if they shoot on sight and don't even capture one for further testing 💯💯
Both Joel and the fireflies was wrong in the matter because at the end of the day Ellie should have had a choice and both well Joel did and the fireflies was going to take her decision away now if Ellie was to choose to sacrifice herself to find a cure to not have the world be infected anymore if they found a cure then she would have been selfless and the reason why the world is not infected anymore because she was the only one that was immune to the infection so she was the only way at the time to find a cure and sometimes sacrifice is necessary especially in this type of matter when a person is immune to the disease so it's either be selfish or selfless if the world could be saved if a possiblity for a cure can be had for the world to not be infected anymore and I know it's a hard decision to make in Ellie position and if she were to not sacrifice herself and never find another person like her that's immune then she will be always thinking that she could've saved the world from this infection for the rest of her life while still living in the infected world that she could've cured
@@ashtonramsey386 but that's just it, there was no saving the world. Her being sacrificed wasn't going to guarentee humanity being saved and it couldn't have happened. For one, the surgeon wasn't even a real doctor, he was a veterinarian and 2nd, it's people that has been infected long before Ellie was even born and during that time, they were looking and searching for a cure but they never ran any type of test, considering how long Marlene kept Ellie underneath her wing. Which she said, she promised her mother to keep her safe and that she known her but according to Ellie, she told Tess that she met Marlene literally after she got bit, so that was always a gap in the story. But the point is, is that the Fireflies were more wrong than Joel because they kept her hostage against her will and they screwed him out of his deal. Lastly, he made it perfectly clear that he wasn't leaving without her and he stood by it.
@@dboslice but that's the thing in this situation where a person that's immune to the disease that don't come around often so when that option is on the table for possibly finding a cure with the person that's immune that's the point of testing the person to find a cure and sometimes that means the person may die now with things like that it's not going to be guaranteed to find a cure that's the point of testing and processing it to be perfected and safe for humans to take but it don't matter who was a more fault not was at fault for taking Ellie's choice away but really Joel did take her choice and the doctors was about to take her choice and so in this situation when a possible cure can be had for the world to be cured if found a cure then that person has to choose to be selfish in not trying to find a cure or be selfless and make a great sacrifice for the future world to be cured if found one but either way that's a very hard choice to make it just comes down to being selfless or selfish
yeah one persons happiness even against the wishes of the other person involved is surely not wrong at all vs a cure for an entire species. It’s not supposed to be equal, it’s about it being a very selfish, human reaction that plenty of people would do. It’s real feeling in that regard, but no, it isn’t up for debate that it’s wrong.
The developers placed a lot of what ifs and roadblocks around what joel did because they wanted it to be difficult to say whether it's right or wrong. They wanted you to empathasize with him. There is nothing wrong with that. But joel was wrong. If you would have done the same, you would also have been wrong. The point is to not make people feel like villains. You have to come to terms that you would have made the wrong choice. That's fine. Your values aren't black and white. But measuring evil vs evil, killing 30 people and the doctor is not the right choice.
I like joel. I don't know for sure what I would do based on my feelings. I have a good enough understanding of morality to understand joel did not pick the best option. Not even close. That's the point of the whole story. Nuance and battling cognitive dissonance. I took it as a chance to pull back from that strong urge to defend joel. To re evaluate my own moral compass. I concluded that what joel did was wrong and I still love him as a character. He's still my favorite character.
You don't want to end up like one of these 50+ years olds that worship Trump or biden. That claim either of them are good or honest or care about anyone other than themselves and those closest to them. All because they can't fathom making a choice between two pieces of shit. Two disgusting humans. They have to pretend one of them is good. That NEEDS one of them to be good. Once you start doing that it becomes a nasty habit and before you know it one day you're living in a complete fantasy. Those people are ruining this country.
If you are still struggling with these concepts as an adult. Try weed or shrooms or anything that will allow you to think outside your programming for even an hour. At least once.
im really not sure what i wouldve done. For me i feel like its easy to say that we would or wouldnt sacrifice ellie but who really knows. Its a completely diffrent world from ours.
I'm saving ellie because they were hoping to find a cure... They didn't have a cure and just needed her to complete it.
But that's being selfish because a cure is not that simple it's a processed thing that requires a lot of testing and time especially when it needs to be perfected to have others to be immune from the disease when taken and listen sacrifice is hard thats why to be able to be in that type of mind set the person has to not be selfish thinking only about themselves when the world or loved ones is involved it should be about the Good of the world and others well being but we are to selfish to think that way
@@ashtonramsey386 It' selfish on the fireflies part as well because they weren't willing to take the time to process it and test everything. They were willing to rush the procedure and just kill her. Probably out of fear that she would turn it down if she woke up
@@tmm4195 I did say both Joel and the fireflies was at fault and being selfish for not giving Ellie a choice in the matter but as Joel said the disease goes to the brain so any surgery was a possibility that Ellie could die in the process of find a cure and how Ellie was reacting when joel lied to her about them having many like her it seems like she would have sacrificed herself for world to have a cure if possible because in her mind all what they have been through wouldn't have been for nothing she had a purpose but we just don't know that because Joel lied to her telling her there where more immune people like her and making her live through this terrible life while possibly having a cure in her blood and again in Ellie situation by being immune and possibly having a cure that's a very difficult situation but again in that situation is it about the immune person that if they want to continue living in these harsh conditions while possibly having a cure or thinking about others and possibly saving the world by possibly finding a cure in her blood and possibly dieing in the process so again it's about being selfish or selfless in this situation on Ellie's part but she didn't get that chance being Joel lied to her and he could've told her the truth and gave her that choice again but he didn't and my friend that's just wrong letting her live in a lie
@@ashtonramsey386 Well yeah Joel is selfish too but his reasons are more understandable considering the fireflies weren’t gonna take no for an answer and they were eager to rush the procedure. Ellie and Joel had no idea prior to this that she would need to die and Ellie even made plans for afterwards. Overall, Ellie just would’ve died for nothing. The second game tries so hard to make it seem like the fireflies were gonna make the cure work. But the first game makes it clear the fireflies are just morons rushing to kill the only immune person they know about
@@tmm4195 they wasn't rushing to kill Ellie the process of even trying to find a cure was going to kill Ellie anyways because of the disease spreading to the brain but what was wrong was the fireflies not giving Ellie a chance to choose of what's to come by trying to find a cure from her and joel is no better no matter the reason and from his pov his reasoning is valid but he still lied and took her choice from her

Loved these videos. Surprised more people didnt watch more of it. Part 2 will definitely get more views. Its a very different story, which i wont spoil. But strap in because its a LOT. Everyone shoupd experience it imo

Love this comparison because a lot of people who agree with Joel’s choice probably also agree with Peter’s choice. Just shows how a world can change your perception of things.
Remember the 'Left Behind' dlc story. It's a nice little prequel, could probably take one video maybe two depending on how long the story video is.

I dont know if you've seen the show but in the beginning they basically confirmed that a cure couldn't be made so Ellies death would've been in vain and if the fireflies had stopped and actually done some tests or had a competent doctor they would've found that out.
Yes but being immune was just as impossible as creating the cure, the ff should have handled it better but there's a chance something might have come from Ellie's 1 in 8 billion life

Was Ellie even in an emotionally stable-enough condition to be making that choice? There's a reason we don't let youth make such decisions, because their physical brains aren't mature enough to really make a decision of that caliber.
Also, the fireflys were on their last leg. How the hell did they plan to mass produce a vaccine once developed? The doctor seemed to be overly ambitious about what could realistically be achieved had he been able to finish the procedure.
Joel made the right move.

1:04:33 That transition is exactly what I was missing from the show. They left out a lot of small but very significant scenes in which you see Joel and Ellie's relationship slowly change. I saw the game first and then the show, which to me was just disappointing for these reasons. The show to me was just very boring and I just didn't see the relationship building up as it does in the game.
Please react to the second game before it would come out as the TV series. It will be worth not having the series spoil it for you guys, and rather seeing the game first which is also a masterpiece just like the first one.
They should have split the first game into 2 seasons in order to add more character development

My main issue with the fireflies is them believing that a vaccine will “save the world”. Looking at how the world is and how long it’s been since the outbreak, the world was not returning to before.

Bro you missed a very important detail, the fireflies didn’t even consult her before drugging her and putting her on the operation table, how is it fair to put the blame solely on Joel when the Firelies have twisted his hand and didn’t give Ellie the choice, or Joel the chance to say his goodbye to her?
i agree and that was something we talked about at the end and off camera. This makes it very interesting to see what happens in part 2 if Ellie discovers the truth.

Ellie literally risked her life for joel just to wake up and hear the fireflies don’t want her…imagine risking everything and losing people you care about and all those people are basically meant nothing because of joel…now I would probably save ellie as well because there is no for sure they can make a cure from ellie…Marlene became one of my favorite characters after the show released because she truly is the good guy of this story…she is a leader of a freedom rebellion and trying to find the cure from a smuggling psycho we would’ve 100 percent been on anyones side of the story if we played as them she is what joel is if he accepts ellies choice…you can see how much it really mattered to marlene that she put her own connections to ellie which are much stringer than ellie and Joel out of the picture…riley, sam, henry, tess,and others that we may not know about are all people that joel in a sense tell her that their deaths were for nothing imagine waking up and never even seeing the person who raised you (Marlene)
