Over the last year, I've gotten a lot of requests for a fingerstyle cover of @ericclapton's "Tears in Heaven," so I wanted to send this out to anyone whose been wanting or needing to hear it. It's such a sad song lyrically, but I always appreciated how hopeful the music felt... with the melody and arrangement dropping down into minor, only to resolve back into major tones, and lifting up into the major key change for the bridge. I think it's that tug of war between light and dark that makes blues music so helpful when people are feeling bad, because it reminds them that, no matter what challenges they're facing, they're not alone out there.

Don't think Mr.Clapton can play close to your skills performance amazing technique with extra colouring not boring at all....Even with out vocals sounds better then original...Excellent composition styling in your playing 😎
You are an incredible musician. I'm always amazed at your playing. And your custom guitars!
Juste magnifique cette interprétation ! J'aime beaucoup les guitaristes qui mettent de l'âme dans leur son. La musique n'est pas juste un débit de notes , mais de là sensibilité.
This tune always brings the rain, because it makes me think of my son in heaven😢 gone too soon😢 beautifully done 💜Justin💜
I'm sory to hear that .I've lost alota people in my life .it always hurts. Wishing you well
God bless you Robbyn, sorry he’s not here.
Feel with you.Let God cosole you ,and give you faith to meet him in heaven some day.Wish you all best!
@@bobymox thanx boris.i realy appreciate the kind words of wisdom 🖤👍👍👍😷
I know that feel bro 😢
I love guitar! I can go from Steve Vai to Glenn Campbell, from Roy Clark to Stevie Ray Vaughan to Clapton. I can listen (and love) Flamenco, blues, hard rock, country, classic etc. Now my point is this: As I listen to this young man, what is it that makes his music stand out so much? Any Guitar player can find and execute chords (even me! 😜), thousands upon thousands can finger pick, so what makes him so damn good? The standard explanation is things like he feels the music (which he most certainly does) , hours upon years of practice (witch is surely true) etc.etc. But I think his impeccable, masterful, timing and inner sense of melody is on a level seldom reached, even by professionals. Even though I love to listen to Vai, Vaughan or Hendricks, you can’t help from occasionally feeling their playing fast, just to play fast to prove they are good. Justin never lets his abilities upstage the music. In short, he gets it. Just close your eyes and listen.......beyond the notes and find the smoothness. After so many years, I have really found the G.O.A.T.......Justin Johnson.
Justin F E E L S each song (and lyrics), arranges a special, and unique, version in his head, his fingers, timing, loud-softness on each note is only decided (in real time), as he actually PERFORMS/records the video.
(my guesstimation).... you've been chording/noting a long time... maybe longer than me (64 1/2 years). You know....because you play that way, too. Justin just has his own, unique style and "feel" for each musical piece.
Loved your comment....I read every one you make here. Good stuff.
Doug aka "Crossbow" (BMI, songwriter), etc.)
@@douglasfuqua7082 ... thanks , Doug! Yep, we get what this young man's getting! And I been plinking/plucking for over 60......but I don't sound like this, and that's ok cause I got him to listen to. Have a good day, sir. Nice talking!
@@g-palloyd3600 you, too. Keep "tickling" those strings !!!

This post is spot on. Thanks for breaking it down and sharing!
As someone recovering from PTSD, your rendition is very healing - going from dark to light. Beautiful, Justin. Thank you.
That's what separates a artist from a musician. You hear the artist play and you can recognize them. Keep that sound Mr Johnson.
100% true.
@Vladimir bud if you think so. There are few that are imitated but never will they be the original. Such as Jmi Hendrix, Steveie Ray Vaughn , Jo Bonamassa, BB King, Albert King, Robert Cray, and let's not forget the king himself Robert Johnson. Now you can sound like them sure, but to be them nah. Justin Johnson ranks among these legendary performers. So sit down be calm play the blues and carry on.
Vladimir, ninguém pinta igual ao outro. Ninguém tem a mesma mão, o mesmo feeling, a mesma visão, a mesma audição. Muitos não ultrapassam as barreiras que a si próprio impõem.
Vladimir, nobody paints like the other. No one has the same hand, the same feeling, the same vision, the same hearing. Many do not go beyond the barriers they impose on themselves.
@Vladimir wow that must be some high horse your ride there bud. Got you all in your feelings. Don't take it personal it's my opinion, and as I have said opinions are like assholes everyone had one :Most of them stink. I'm glad that there are people like you. Those live by what I think is right kinda people. I'm more of a live day to day guy. Three strokes and ptsd im kinda glad. I'm not going ape shit on you like you are on me but you know it takes all types. So like I said before be calm carry on and live your life. I will think twice before crossing a bridge on here again. Trolls like you all to common. Plus I was just trying to tell jj what I think. So keep your opinion to yourself plus invest in a dictionary. Artist and musician have two totally different definitions.
@Binamra Sharma An anapodoton is a rhetorical device in which a main clause of a phrase that is not mentioned is implied by a subordinate clause that is mentioned. Some of such expressions are idiomatic. That's like the definition I found hell if I know
My brother had just passed away when I heard this song for the first time I was really young but I can remember when I found out I asked my mom where is Robert, and she didn't say anything and I remember asking if we going to to go see him and she still didn't answer me. So, I asked her if went to heaven and she just started crying. I remember asking that cause he was very sick, with cancer and I remember the reason I asked was because of this song. I must have only been 4 or 5 years old. Thanks for this Justin I love this song and it always bring a bid of sorrow to me but also it makes me grateful. I am the same age now as my brother was when he passed away.
If there is a heaven I am sure your brother is in...
@@gowwar491 I agree with you
I PRAY you are well, and my condolences. I lost my son 01Feb21 so I feel ya.
@@gowwar491Heaven IS A FACT AND REALITY,!! One day, very soon, we will see our lived one's again!! Accept the Holy Lord, Jesus Christ, who gave His life for all our sinners and you WILL be in heaven soon🙏🏻 Never doubt the Lord Jesus🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻
I can't imagine that anybody plays a cover of this song with more heart and "audible" emotion - I hope Eric Clapton will hear it, too.
Eric called, said he loved it.
4:30 am listening to it rain outside, and this tune could not be more appropriate.. beautiful!!!.. those tears are falling from heaven..
As a person with a terminal cancer, I find this so comforting. Thank you Jason
More than style, flair and musicality, there is heart in this music.
Such a beautiful song, but putting the JUSTIN spin on it, makes it even more beautiful!! Every song you play, its obvious, you have taken them, and walked a mile in them, feeling them, projecting the messages they bare. I cant help but love you, beautiful man, with such a talent, that make the tears swell from my eyes!
NOBODY COULD SAID IT BETTER THAN YOU JUST DID! 🕊💗💞💗🕊
Well played, Justin. Such a sad song. Rest in peace, Conor Clapton.
I think it was more than one piece
@@sharongroat8103 So offensive
@@cabbuccino5558 they're just doing it for attention because of shock factor. Not worth even relying to that.
Who needs a voice, when you can play like this?!
Love the Clapton esque string bends you've added to this piece.
Such a poignant song, full of soul and a father's heartbreak.
I look at my Son and think, How do you get over the loss of a child?
You don't!
One of the most beautiful songs ever written , born of such unimaginable pain ! Nice cover , I'm sure with due respect given . Well done Justin , as always !

Unbelievable! So crisp and clean sound on that guitar. Of course one the very best playing it! Huge fan of all your renditions of all tunes you play. I will always enjoy listening.
Just great! Incredible feeling in playing this sad but so beautiful song, thumbs up again Justin!
i really love the sound of this guitar. oh my it gives me chills
One of the most love, and sorrow filled songs ever written, and one of my favorites to play of all time (the original way of course), and of course you absolutely did it justice beyond words.
I think Eric would be proud. This was sooo beautiful. You play so very well and I love listening to ya!♥️♥️
Amazing playing, your slides and bends are part of what makes this go from great to excellent. Will be listening to this again for sure.
Singing and playing the blues brought me strength and a little bit of dough too. Such a poignant song for these times, but with a reminder that it doesn't end when we leave this world. Love your rendition.
Such an amazing song! And that tone! Great job.
I don't usually like 'covers' of certain songs, but this version in no way detracts any emotion from the original. Dare I say it almost, no, it definitely deepens the emotion. Masterfully done. And on a guitar from my home country.
What is this guitar?
Another Blessing to hear from A Superior Artist, Thanks again Mr Johnson
I was just talking about my granddaughter who passed away 16 years ago, and to come home to see you posted this Justin. I thank you for this as I know she is with God. She knew 1 month before she passed that she was going to leave this earth. My granddaughter Alyssa told her mom (my daughter) 1 month before she passed that she was going to die in a fire and it was coming soon. 1 month later she passed away in a fire but God protected her body as her bed was never touch by the flames. the whole house burnt except a complete circle around the bed was burnt but God must have shielded the inside of that circle as her body wasn't touched. The firemen said they couldn't understand what they saw and starting crying. Alyssa was 5 years old and God called her home for a reason. Thank you for this beautiful playing of Tears In Heaven.
Duuuuuuuude! Some good ol Clapton with a Justin Johnson twist !Most Excellent!
I can here a soulful Eric clapton singing through that chunky guitar. Sounds awsome. Nice acoustics. Like playing in a tunnel.
Beautiful rendition. Thank you for sharing.
Simply amazing!!

My gosh Justin, that is absolutely the most beautiful and amazing cover of “tears in heaven” that I have ever had the pleasure of hearing !!! Eric Clapton would be very honored to hear you play this, and trust me, I’m NOT exaggerating, Eric is a very humble and honest soul ... he would love ❤️ your rendition of his beautiful song ... an all time classic !!!
Beautifully mastered by the master! Thanx!
Just perfect, a pleasure to see and heard, very nice
Mr Johnson, Thank you for making the Emotions be heard through your guitar! Only truly gifted musicians could play the pain that Eric Clapton put through this song to find Peace within himself. The harmonic balance Was prestigious thank you again!
You've brought this song back to me and have no idea how significant that is. Thank you for a lovely 6-1/2 minutes!
