  • Made some adjustments to the wing sweep and double checked everything, ready for another test flight. Before I tried another take off, I asked one of our most experienced club member to remaiden the Freewing F-14. Unfortunately the issue with the ESC, continued and then one of the wings decided to sweep forward on its own. So one of my favorite models was lost crashed. Not a cheap weekend...

    Freewing is having quality control issues with electronics lately. My F-16 ESC burned out mid-air and the plane dove straight into the ground. This was after 9 successful and stable flights over several weeks. MotionRC won't do anything about it. You are not the only 64mm F-14 to crash. I suspect this model will have a lot of problems going forward.

    Very sorry for your loss, That one wing swept forward and other stayed back was more than any RC Pilot could handle no matter haw good they are, We lost a real B-1B Bomber back in 1985 when I was in the Airforce because of the same issue, Most of that crew died. It was a very sad day.

      The real F-14 could handle it so i guess that's not compareable. Btw: What was this takeoff? o.0

    There seems to be a rash of these uncontrollable new 64mm F-14 crashes. The wing sweep seems to be the cause in this one. I'm not sure if it has been identified in the other crashes I've viewed on YT yet or not. Someone had a nose-dive when changing from 1/2 flaps back to no flaps. On the 80mm F-14 there was always the danger and note to make sure the flaps were UP before swinging the wings back, and mixes were in place to make sure that happens. It's easy to see how a stuck flap could alter the symmetry of the wing sweep. Is it possible any of that is going on with this 64mm F-14?

    I mentioned on another video that the swing wing servos are "constantly" under a heavy load. This looks like the end result ?

    The real F14 may have been able to do that and fly fine but I can’t imagine the RC version was at all controllable at that point. I mean, the best RC pilot I’ve ever seen was at the controls. I’m still trying to figure out how that happened. Was it an uncommanded wing sweep back or forward on one wing? Or was the sweep switch flipped and one wing didn’t do what is was supposed to do?

    That was a cg issue. You could see it right from the takeoff. Jet was way too nose heavy

      How does that cause the one wing to sweep Forward?

    I think I’ve seen way more crashes of this new F-14 than any other rc model ever.

    Probably didn't put the ball links connectors on the right direction, if they snapped on easy then it's wrong

      I have been hearing this alot and I looked over mine and they seem very snug, but I looked threw the manual they dont even mention anything about installing the rods. So if there is a issue with them coming off that is on MotionRc bc even in Wes video he only shows he puts them on and doesnt say a word about the size of the holes in the ball joint clevis.

      @DronemanJoeRc I have one and I think what I'm going to do is take the screws that are holding the balls on off and put a big washer on them so will keep the connector from popping off the ball

    This happened to me with the Twin 80mm version when they first came out. I'm disappointed that they used cheap plastic clevices to connect the swing wing mechanism on this one. Very soft and this is likely going to happen over time 😕

    • @frank-vq4mx
      @frank-vq4mx Před 3 měsíci

      No. It won't. The only time you risk breaking that clevis is when ,on landing or takeoff, you have a very strong wing strike on the runway or grass.

      @frank-vq4mx Not true. My metal clevice failed in flight on my twin 80mm. Broke in the air

      Other way around, the pass was with the wings swept. One then opened on its own. Control rods were still connected after crash.
