The 1957 Chevrolet is a car that was introduced by Chevrolet in September 1956 for the 1957 model year. It was available in three series models: the upscale Bel Air, the mid-range Two-Ten, and the One-Fifty. A two-door station wagon, the Nomad, was produced as a Bel Air model. An upscale trim option called the Delray was available for Two-Ten 2-door sedans.
A 409 cu in (6.7 L) version was Chevrolet's top regular production engine from 1961 to 1965, with a choice of single or 2X4-barrel Rochester carburetors. Bore x stroke were both up from the 348 cu in (5.7 L) to 4.31 in × 3.5 in (109.5 mm × 88.9 mm). On December 17, 1960, the 409 engine was announced along with the Impala SS (Super Sport) model. The initial version of the engine produced 360 hp (268 kW) with a single 4-barrel Carter AFB carburetor. The same engine was upped to 380 hp (283 kW) in 1962. A 409 hp (305 kW) version of this engine was also available, developing 1 hp per cubic inch with a dual four-barrel aluminium intake manifold and two Carter AFB carburetors. It had a forged steel crankshaft.[14] This dual-quad version was immortalized in the Beach Boys song titled "409".
In the 1963 model year, output reached 425 bhp (431 PS; 317 kW) @ 6000 rpm and 425 lb⋅ft (576 N⋅m) @ 4200 rpm of torque with the Rochester 2X4-barrel carburetor setup, a compression ratio of 11:1 and a solid lifter camshaft.[15] The engine was available through mid-1965, when it was replaced by the 396 cu in (6.5 L) 375 hp (280 kW) Mark IV big-block engine. In addition, a 340 hp (254 kW) version of the 409 engine was available from 1963 to 1965, with a single 4-barrel cast iron intake mounting a Rochester 4GC square-bore carburetor, and a hydraulic-lifter camshaft.
The 265 cu in (4.3 L) V8 engine was bored out to 3.875 in (98.43 mm) in 1957, giving it a 283 cu in (4.6 L) displacement. The first 283 motors used the stock 265 blocks. However, the overbore to these blocks resulted in thin cylinder walls. Future 283 blocks were cast to accept the 3.875 bore. Five different versions between 188 hp (140 kW) and 283 hp (211 kW) were available, depending on whether a single carb, twin carbs, or fuel injection was used.
Horsepower was up a bit each year for 1958, 1959, and 1960. The 1957 Rochester Ramjet mechanical fuel injection version produced an even one hp per one cu in (283 hp (211 kW), an impressive feat at the time. This was the second U.S.-built production V8 to produce one horsepower per cubic inch, after the 1956 Chrysler 300B.[19] - Auta a dopravní prostředky
Love your content. Its getting me back into model building after probably 15 years of not doing any. Just ordered 3 models and some supplies from model roundup. Can’t wait to get them Monday!
Enjoy!
Excellent build and presentation as always Chris. This is one of my all time favorites from AMT! I have one of each and every release of this kit from the original release and will get this release when available! I really can't tell you how many times I hVe built this kit
As an old dude who’s been building since the 70’s,these old kits spoiled us. Quality kits with so many options. Looked great. Fit great. This is definitely one of those kits.
It came out brilliantly. This is how all kits should be: tons of part and decal options. 👍
Nice build. Great tip about matt acrylic on the tyres, those look great! I'll be giving that a try myself. Thank you.
I know what your channel needs , every once an awhile a bloopers reel. How about it Chris? Sounds like fun.
Yeah for like a new years eve video lol.
LOL, according to some my entire videos are a blooper reel. hehehe
I try to leave in my flubs and mistakes instead of editing them out so that people can see I too have issues sometimes.
Nice job on one of my favorite kits ! Not long ago I built two out of a box of spare parts I accumulated over 20-25 years.
One I built pretty much as yours here. The other is a beat up, tired old stocker.
And now I need to buy one of these !
You should do a diorama with this and your Class Of ‘57 Chevy in a drag race.
Great build once again. Very cool.
You are the rattle can Master ! Great stuff as always . I saw your build of the 1926 Mack Bulldog , I got the kit , built it , Love it !!! I went out and bought another one I'm now building , What a great kit .
Thanks 👍
A very nice looking kit. As always, you did an excellent job building it. That is an awesome decal sheet. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks, you too!
Looks good - thanks for building it.
It's real fine - with that 4 0 9
Giddy Up. Giddy Up. 4 0 9
Sue Wheat Build. Thank you so much, Chris.
Another good job the tri fives are the best I can’t get enough of them, I built the pepper shaker a couple of years ago 👍🇦🇺
Very nice kit went together pretty good I'll have to get on the list to get me one nice job model look great
Cool classic model, very detailed 👌 👍
Love this build I just started AMT 57 Belair . You just gave me some good ideas 💡 ty can’t wait for the next video …
Great build as always.
Nice job -- great colours!
Wild engine.
*I built that kit as a kid 40 years ago and put the aligator in the back package tray so you can see him in the rear window~This '57 builds into a very nice model~Seems very heavy and sturdy compared to other brands '57s I have built over the years~Your turned out awesome~I love to watch all your videos*
*Sincerely Rob Lucas*
Gotta love a 57 Chevy!!!!!!!! 👍👍👍👍
This ‘57 Chevy and the ‘56 Ford make good companion pieces.
Cool little build. I haven't built/ owned a model in decades but this year I made the mistake of picking up a dozen old Johan kits at a swap meet. And haven't stopped buying since now have around 100 kits. Not this kit yet but in 1 of my lot buys I acquired the 56 hdtp 78 release. Someone started it painted the body with a brush. I've striped it and made a candy apple gasser it's about finished. So now I'm doing a diorama lol like I'm not busy enough to start building again lol smh
hey chris this is a nice kit i built this one back in early 1980 my parents bought this for me for one of my high school graduation gifts i may have to buy another one nice job on this build .john
As always Chris great build and video, even the soundtrack music was relaxing, thanks for sharing, I'm looking forward to the next one.
Sometimes the music is too relaxing. I’ll admit I’ve fallen asleep once or twice watching these videos. Must be getting old or I have to stop watching his videos after working 12 hours.
I have this kit in both a '77 sealed and '89 open unassembled issues plus three Revell issues '77, '85, & '89 also 2 Revell Nomads a '78 & '84 all 5 sealed. Someday I might build them
As usual you have another one out of the park stay safe and keep up the great work
I built this years ago, (maybe 97-98), and it had all the chrome suspension parts then.
They have a little engine display stand you can build to display the engine you don't use.
Love your videos helped me get started making models could you maybe make a video on how you display or store your models
I have been watching your videos I did get back into model building I did order model and accessories from model round up
I'd like for the gassers and other drag cars to come with the "Xmas tree" to make a diorama. Great build looks cool. 😎 👍🇨🇦
Back in the day ( as they say ) there was a kit - maybe a rail dragster - that came with a christmas tree. Don't remember which kit is was in......
I think the red GTO I built, a 67 possibly, has a Christmas Tree in it.
@@hpiguy yes it was. The 67 GTO Weekend Warrior. It comes with the Christmas tree.
Great buiding!! Masterpiece and great work!
Sweet hpi. I love drag racing kits the most anyways. Yours is great. Take care.
The shifter that looks “like a guys face” is a Voodoo head shifter. The real ones were slightly smaller and available through the JC Whitney catalog around 1959/60. They were chrome or black with large red jeweled eyes. I have on in my ‘57 Bel Air.
Nice, saw the pic on the FB page if that was you who shared it. Thanks!
I had this one as a kid
that is one sweet looking Chevy
I had this one in the 80s it had like a basset hound instead of an alligator and I still have it in the "junkyard"
Turned out great
Great work as always.
Awesome kit .
Super Finish .
👍👍👍👍👍👍
Mike .
Thank you very much!
Great video! Can you share what make the purple tape is that you used on the side trim masking?
I built this kit back in 1967. It happens to be green and black also only without the black roof. Painted my engine gold. The black on the fin inset is black flocking and the interior is flocked in black and green. I'm now 71 and still have that model. First and only car I entered in a contest and took home first place. Wish I knew what happened to the trophy.
Sweet car love the color 👌
Haven't seen the Cobra 🐍 build yet when I seen this I had to jump over it and check out the Pepper Shaker. This is already on my list but now that I've seen the build at least 2 are on the list. By looking threw the comments this kit has some history. Looks like it's been released at least once every decade since the 60's. I was heavily into modeling in the 60's, 70's, and part of the 80's and can't believe I don't remember it. I am aware of the last release, I was gonna get it until I saw this one. BTW the shifter looks like a Tiki God statue.
came out great.
Currently in the process of building that bare bones basic blue 57 well molded in blue it’s as close as i could get to surf green
Lovely job mate👍
Thank you! Cheers!
I need this kit!
Very cool car!
Nice gasser Chris!
love it love it
Very cool build! But, I'm with you Chris, I don't like a lot of chrome. There is chrome and there is to much chrome. Lol
Love your work, Question, How many different Glues do you use on each Model?
Love your content, I have a question. How strong is the bond when Mod Podge is used for windows?
Once totally dry I have not had one pop loose ever.
Looking at building multiples of these I've noticed that some have complained about the rear slicks touching the body, has anyone else come up with a solution ?
Great review and awesome build thanks Chris.i know you been asked a thousand times this question.what is that amazing glue you use? I'm hearing impaired sorry I missed it.big fan of your channel.peace.
That would be Plastruct Bondene, modelroundup.com carries it. :)
I don’t always pay attention to the videos thumbnail, when I watch your videos. If I could tell that it’s a model of interest, I just hit the video and watch it, to be surprised on how you end up building it.
Thanks!
You’re Welcome.
The adjustable front suspension would be great at making a junker missing the engine.
the shift knob is a moai head from easter island.
hay mate im loveing your content and so you know how you did the 71 joey soldana sprint car do you think you coud do a nother sprint car model kit plz?
If one of the model companies reissues one I'd be happy to.
Pet alligator???.......Pet alligator :) Nice kit, nice build, i have an earlier release in the stash. Will get to it......once....
Nice 57!
Hey Chris,
Great lookin Chevy kit, and another nice build. Lookin forward to pickin this kit up, decal sheet is loaded up and nice to see the 2 choices of decals for rear quarters. I like how you did the side chrome, what kind of tape did you use to mask it? 🇨🇦
Washi tape, you can find it at hobby lobby.
@@13Dixiefried Perfect, thanks!
Correct, Washi Tape, it's a craft tape.
Just asking? Have you ever had any issues with spraying other paint over "Rust-Oleum" primers?
Was asking because I was about to use it, under a Tamiya color? Or even Testors? Didn't want to
have to put the body in the "stripper" solution and have to re-spray it... Your thoughts?
I don't try to two tone Rustoleums or Krylons over each other once dry, they usually react poorly.
I have shot most other sprays over them in LIGHT coats and have not had issues, but always test first, I can't vouch for every combination or shop circumstances.
Awesome Build Chris, just 1 Question ❓ You Stated Rustic Orange For BOTH Engines BUT There r 2 Different Colors. Was The 2nd a Rustic Yellow/Gold?? Thanks For Sharing Your Fun and Expertise In The Hobby Sir, God Bless All 🤗🤗 Gary.
Rustic Orange and Fire Orange, thanks.
Is this one any different than the Pepper Shaker they reissued a few years ago?
don’t think so other than different box art … not 100 percent sure though
Chris! What Glue do use that set's up that quickly???? I am using many Different Types including the Green Top Tamiya I have seen in Many of your Build Videos. But mine does not set up that rapidly. ANY ANSWER WILL BE GREATLY APPRECIATED. I Retired at the End of 2020 and since I am a Single Man and my Son's are both grown and doing very well with families of their own. I decided to get back into modeling that I enjoyed sooo much as a Young Man. The ONLY thing we had back then to the Model Laymen was Testors Glue which took quiet a while to Dry as you know. Great Build as always and really like the color Scheme. Thanks in Advance and keep em coming!!!!
Plastruct Bondene, modelroundup.com sells it. :)
What glue do you use
Plastruct Bondene
Wonder why it’s called pepper shaker but not black or chili pepper red on the box. Metallic green doesn’t really make sense.
But if I buy this kit, I can fix that. I’d paint it the same color as my daily driver, a 1 of 2500 (1 of 500 that year) Chili Pepper Red edition 98 Wrangler.
Hey Chris, how long does it take for mod pod get to dry,
Depends on how humid it is and how thick you applied it.
I dry mine in a dehydrator and it takes 30 minutes, if left out probably overnight.
