And this is why dams are usually build with more erosion resistant material then sand, on the sides exposed to water at the very least, and usually not build as steep as this.
There have been dams build badly which collapsed and from that and simulations, we have learned not to build them like that and we have updated most dams to fit that understanding.
It’s an interesting look into how failures does happen and how fast it can happen.

even when built with the proper materials they need to ensure that the water can't get around the built portion of the dam. If the surrounding soil is permeable then the weight of water held back by the dam can go under or around the foundation causing a failure.

I have a good dam design that will be entertaining:have the brick wall inside the sand but place them specifically to have holes in some places, remember to cover all of that with sand and make sure the sand gets in most crevices in the wall for maximum resistance you can have the option of putting another layer of brick on top, you also have the extra option of having magnets on it after you put the extra bricks lastly decorate the dam with whatever you want

It would be interesting to see what a small pump to drain the rooms inside the dam would go to its longgevity. Also i suggest providing clay and rough gravel as additional builing materials to the lego workers.
Rough gravel has a lot of friction but is pourous so it has stability but is leaky.

@@KingOfDams clay might actually be quite waterproof, so that might kind of ruin the idea of the video. I'd go for wet, compacted sand instead. That way it can still liquefy dramatically and get a spectacular failure, but it'll be slightly more resistant to erosion during the filling stages and as it's already saturated with moisture, less water will wick in and damage the structure prematurely.

After 385 floods they are fine, Lego is doing good things :)

  • @Your_Local_Passenger_Jet

imagine this, you’re a dam worker, its your last day before retirement. and while you’re below at the bottom floor, a hole breaks through the wall, flooding you room, as you hold your breath, you start to feel the dam shake, before your taken down with the dam, buried under the rubble, no chance of rescue.
(thats the experience of the man on the right side inside the dam)

These are very satisfying to watch, but i do have 1 problem with them. Dam Breach Experiment implies that its meant to simulate an actual real world event probability. If thats the case, which its clearly not, you would use more realistic materials for it. Clay soil concrete filament etc.
    Again, still satisfying.
