He was so great!!! Man what I would give to have his old archtop Gibson...that was when guitars were made right and Gibson was king. Guitars and Don Gibson...what a blessing we have to enjoy his songs....I remember them all from those days.
I was privileged to see Don many times as I was stationed at Nashville while in the Air Force 1958 and 1950. GREAT TALENT verry humble individual. Love following his career. Was listening to Ralph Emory the night Don cut "Oh Lonesome Me " and "I can't stop loving you." Don dropped by the studio of WSM while Ralph's show was running live and Ralph played both songs several times while the show was on that night. Wonderful times and wonderful memories.
Great performance even though he had not fully recovered from a stroke he had suffered sometime earlier. Can you imagine writing TWO country standards both in the same afternoon..... " I Can't Stop Loving You" and "Oh Lonesome Me" ! Most writers dream of writing ONE country standard in their whole lifetime ! Thanks for the post !!
Thank you to share the original old song to us. I love his songs , they had quality sweet meaning, quality vocal and powerful voice. I appreciated your posting for my young listener.
First came across Don Gibson on a Roy Orbison compilation of DG's songs. Bowled over I just had to by Don's versions. Still got the 14 LP's I bought in a second hand record shop. Some of the best in my collection.
Most people today do not realize that Sweet Dreams was recorded 3 times before Patsy cut it in 1963 Don (Once on MGM and Once on RCA VICTOR) cut it Twice and Faron Young had a hit with it! Don rerecorded it several times after 1963!

I was never a big fan of country music, but I always admired Don Gibson"s singing. He was a great singer I specally like his Sea of Heartbreak.
In my opinion, Don Gibson is the greatest singer songwriter in the classic country genre.
Me you and several million other fans,,,,,
So very true nobody even comes close. ❤
He at one time received the longest standing ovation on record at The Grand 'Ol Opry singing this song.
Yea the opry audience started getting lazy. If you listen to the old broadcasts they would cheer. Here they hardly clap
I watch this video everyday. It just warms my heart....
He so very much deserved it
In his prime Don's pipes were so powerful. He closed many of his shows with "Where No One Stands Alone".
