- ( www.TFLtruck.com ) What's the fastest new pickup truck in America in a straight line? Is it the new 2015 Ford F-150 5.0L V-8 or perhaps the new Ford F-150 3.5L EcoBoost or is it the even newer 2015 Ford F-150 2.7L EcoBoost or is the 6.2L Chevy Silverado V-8 or is it the Ram 5.7L V-8 HEMI. Nathan and Roman find out in an Epic TFLtruck drag strip video.

Now you can pull up to a Dodge HEMI in a Ford F-150 2.7 V6 EcoBoost ,and say" Ya, that thing got a HEMI" and proceed to roast them.
The Replacement for Displacement = Turbo
I remember watching this video years ago when it was new. Today the entire Ford F-150 engine lineup makes even more power then it did here and has the great 10 speed transmission.
"Still feels like there's something wrong with the transmission" -Famous last words of Dodge owners
With Dodge is "flip a coin" for issues. Ford and Chevy have CONSISTENT issues, which makes them easier to diagnose lol.
@@kauaigold not a factual statement
@@illduitmyself Never said it was...
@Dr,Cell 74365 Lmao good ole cam phaser. Its...its almost like one of those CONSISTENT issues I mentioned earlier. :D
@@kauaigold good ole lifters from the hemi
I test drove a 2.7L Ecoboost just to laugh at it.
I bought it for reasons described in this video. It's a freaking ROCKET. I kid you not. And the fuel economy is unbelievable.
the have a lot of power right off the line eh
+Mickey Bitsko Have you pulled anything around in it yet? I'm curious to know how it holds up against the traditional V8/ diesel trucks.
+Matt Smith pulls pretty fine. I've got a 2 inch lift and 33's on mine with a roush intake. Pulled a 15ft enclosed loaded pulled fine just didn't shift out of 5th. I could easily spin the tires.
Austin Smith Good to hear that it does what a truck was meant to do! :)
Im going to buy one in a few years
this may be a ford biased video but i gotta say i have been ANTI-Ford almost my whole life, and after much testing and many test drives i eventually bought one of the f150 with the 2.7 motor.
for those of you that dont know, or doubt it, the 2.7 is an absolute beast in the lighter aluminum f150s. the truck is much lighter than the heavier chevys and rams and even 3.5 eoecoboost. and if you get the truck in a regular cab or like me just an extended cab, the truck is even quicker than the bigger ecoboost. and the 2.7 is cheaper even than the 5.0 coyote, and faster no question.
over the years i have migrated from chevy, to Nissan (titan) and eventually landed on this new 2.7. i love it. great gas mileage, great drivability, if you are towing heavy loads all the time (over 6000 lbs) get a heavier truck so it feels more planted to the road. but for most people pulling boats and utility trailers and atvs and small travel trailers, you wont even notice the trailer back there.
dodge keeps building bigger heavier engines with worse and worse economy when they should be looking into forced induction engines the way ford has. chevy also, the 5.3 ecotec is a pig. no power and awful milage
I was a die hard dodge guy for 42 yrs, and I’ve had the best of luck with them, just sold my ‘98 dodge quad cab and bought a 2.7 - 4x2 supercrew. I went with the ford because Ram doesn’t have a decent engine selection anymore. You either get a lame underpowered v6 or have to go to the gas hog hemi. That’s one of the reasons I sold the ‘98, mpg at 11/18, way too costly. And the newer Ram isn’t a whole lot better.
This new 2.7 with proper tow pkg and gears will tow 7700 lbs, the same as the old dodge with a 5.9. And this v6 will get over 26 mpg empty
I just finished a 130mile trip with my 2019 supercab 4x4 with a 3.5 ecoboost. I averaged 25.8 mpg running 70 mph . No V8 pickup could get that kind of gas mileage.
I've only had the truck a week and I'm really impressed. Sport mode is nuts!!.
I have a 20 Silverado and average 22.5 city and hwy driving. I have gotten it up to 28 and that is with the 5.3 v8.
@@EvanMerkes1 no you didn't
@@EvanMerkes1 I didn’t know there was that long of a downhill road in the states to get that mpg..
It runs on Al Gore’s tears.
A lot of chevy and ram owners with hurt feelings
Erik Fisher yep
Why? Anyone who understands turbocharging will understand why the 2.7 did so well. I think those with the 3.5 eco will be the ones scratching their heads.
I don't get why people complain when manufacturers dumps a old engine and give it a turbo smaller engine Everyone goes I'm not buying that there's no more v8 or I'm not buying a f150 since they got rid of the 6.2. Um if I can get a smaller engine that's faster, tow more, AND get better gas mileage what the hell am I going to complain for.
Because you are the unknowing sheep that Ford targets to sell a shittier product. Buy it if it makes you happy, but don't try to act like it's better than something else when you know nothing about the subject.
goddzirra ok 1st stay on one subject because your all over the place. 2nd if it's so shity why is it outselling all the other trucks?
goddzirra Ha Ford will always be better than Government Motors! It says something about Ford when it can hold itself while others have fallen!
Again, try to research the topic if you feel that it is such a superior product. Something selling more doesn't make it better. If justin bieber sells more albums than Ice cube, does that make him better? It means that justin knows how to appeal to his audience better than Ice cube, that's called marketing. Mike, wave your dick around all you want about ford not taking any money, when your done with that you can go to google and find out the truth. I'm not even arguing if GM is better, I want you to prove that the Ecoboost is better than a traditional V8. I'm not sure how you can when neither of you have ever driven a truck.
goddzirra you know assuming really makes a ass out of someone. How do you know I have never driven a truck actually I have every single last truck I drove including gm v8's and v6 and ecoboost v6. I dont have to do any research because i dont care what everyone says about the ecoboost, im not a follower im not going to reject ford because people say their this way or that way, if I want a ford then guess what? I want a ford if I want a GM then guess what I want a GM forget all that history shit this is the future stop living in the 1900's and except the facts. Atleast ford took a different direction with pick up trucks trying tt v6s and it became successful hence why it's trickling down to most of their cars and SUV'S. have a nice day
These vids make me not regret getting the 2.7, very surprised with how well it does , just got a 2020 a week ago
what did you go with?
I’ve got a 2.7, 3.55 Ele locker supercrew and it scoots. And still get over 26 mpg when being easy on the go pedal. So glad I bought it before the gasoline hit $5.10 gal
I’ve gotta hand it to the 2.7 in the ford. I had two work trucks with it. 65k miles on one, and 40k on the other, and they never skipped a beat, and ran way better that I ever expected.
the RAM something wrong with the transmission yeah that figures
Haha you beat me to it
it's his opinion lmao, and not every single truck off the lot is perfect
+Devin Lowe should be when its over 40k plus
+Mike Jones The 8speed transmission in the newer Rams is actually a great transmission. The issue is there is a "knob" not a shifter and something about the way it's made won't really allow you to power-rev one. I tried on mine it cuts down then picks back up. Pretty much saying if you're going for best times best to just nail it w/o the revving up
Ricardo Lupian Your proof?
Im so annoyed with most of the ford comments. "Its all turbo, not how a gas truck should be, ill stick with the 5.0". Some of you need to swallow your pride and try something new. By the way, 3 of 5 of our farm trucks are 3.5 ecoboosted f150s. All with over 200k on them. We use them for pulling trailers overloaded with hay, and other times livestock trailers. Keep your underpowered hemi, and your 9mpg 6.2 Silverado, ill take my ecoboosted f150s anyday.
went to the local dealership after watching this, and bought a new ford 2.7 ;)
You guys rock, everything seems to come first from you. That 2.7 sounds better, in my opinion than the 3.5 liter.
Thanks for the comment and thanks for noticing. We try very hard to bring you guys the newest trucks first. Please stay tuned for a complete first drive review that's coming soon.
+Enrique Suarez the 2.7l and 3.5l ecoboost engines deliver low end torque much earlier and for a lond range of rpms. i have the focus st 2.0l ecoboost. max torque is from 2k-4500 rpm as the turbo make torque much faster. if this was a N/A engine then max torque would be around 3800 rpm and drop off around 4500 rpm. hope this shines so light of what your asking.
what does that stand for, i see it every time but what does 'liter' stand for. i know what a liter is but how does it have anything to do with the speed?
ps sorry for the dumb question xD
It's because this test is done in colorado- at altitude. The 6.2 at sea level bitchslaps the other trucks.
You must be blind. It said it's in San Antonio. That Texas and not Colorado. The 6.2 did not bitchslap the Fords.
The "Ecoboost Challenge" was pretty fun when I attended one.
The cool thing here is that Ford also did competitions like you see here where you have multiple people with multiple skills and techniques trying out all the vehicles. The competition is not rigged and you get a pretty accurate comparison of the vehicles by the end.
I did get a talking to by the young Ecoboost Challenge staff because I brake boosted the 2.7 Ecoboost a bit before letting off the brakes and it spun the tires about half way down the test. OOPS!
Amazing F150... The American icon...
Chevy and dodge are sitting back and waiting to see how the new aluminum frame sells, then they will jump on board with how they are innovators. This is why ford dominates in sales.
Aluminum F-150 engineered by X-CHRYSLER employee's !!!
Chrysler had a all Aluminum car in the 1990's....the Prowler...
And F-150 used Chrysler engineers,as Ford hired X-Chrysler engineers who worked on the Prowler to do the Aluminum F-150,so Ford once again used Mopar !!
Model T had a Dodge engine..
2015 Aluminum Ford's designed/engineered by x-Chrysler aluminum experst who designed the Prowler back in the 1990's..
GM,Toyota and FORD use a Chrysler Hemi in Top Fuel /Alcholhol drag racing...
It is an aluminum body. The frame is the stiffest most advanced steel frame Ford has ever made.
BODY not Frame
You are sooo stupid to mix up frame and body. Like, what the shit? You dont even know the difference?
really impressive from the Fords. I been a Chevy man all my life and I still like them but you kinda gotta appreciate Ford's torque off the line.
I drove all of the new Ford trucks at a closed event and I can honestly say that the weight loss is very noticeable, these trucks handle like a big sedan. The one that impressed me the most was a 2.7 xlt supercrew 4x4 that I drove twice and it was a screamer. I have been a truck guy for the last 20 years and that engine and performance blew me away. It will get very impressive mileage and will sell a ton of trucks for ford.
That Ram was easily the heaviest truck there. Probably had at least a thousand pounds on the Ford V8 and probably even more than that on the ecoboosts.
Why do you say that? Sure the aluminum helps the Ford, but not the Chevy. Traditionally Ford has been the heaviest half ton so my guess is the 2.7 Ford is probably 500 pounds less than the Ram. Probably 350 pounds difference between Ram and Ford V8.
Bubu Lubu I say that because the Dodge had grill active shutters, air adjustable ride control, and on average the platform is heavy to begin with. The Ford on the other hand has a lighter chassis, frame, drivetrain, and no air bag suspension or grill shutters. I am not even sure if has leaf springs, where the Ram has independent coil springs which also add weight. Ford said their new pickup would be around 4,500 lbs while the average Ram tips the scales at 6,000 lbs
The 2015 4 door lariat with the 2.7 is 4942. The same truck in 2wd is closer to 4500. The ford frame is stronger so bad on Ram if theirs is heavier. I believe the F150 has grille shutters as well. Google "ram 1500 weight" and read the article from allpar news. It says the ram is 273 pounds heavier in a straight up comparison. Whatever the difference in weight it is up to Ram to make up the difference. I'm not looking for a truck that comes with an excuse I'm going to buy the better truck for me.
Bubu Lubu Look at the model too
Also question of gearing between the trucks as well, Some of them could been geared lower which hurts them.
There are 419 Ram owners sensitive about Nathan's comment at 7:23 :( lol
Waaahhhhm owners? Wait till they see how anemic their 6.7 Cumins is compared to the new Superduty. Two weeks ago I tested both with a 10,000 lb trailer. I think the Ram's supposed 900 Ft/Lb was last seen on a milk carton, because it wasn't anywhere near the 3500 HD I was driving.
the new super duties are freaking beasts!
CorePathway They don't let you use that torque so you won't rip transmissions apart. Not Cummins' fault, it's Fiats, lol
There are millions of butthurt Ford owners every time a Ram show them its taillights.
because they dont know shit about diesels and why a straight 6 way less heavy, stronger and will produce more torque by far than av8 why else does Dodge Rule the HP WAR for 20 years now??
"feels like there's something wrong with the transmission"
He would be in the Dodge.
But Nathan hates dodge..
It would be nice to know the rear end ratio of each vehicle. Very surprised at how well the 2.7L ran.
I have seen the 2.7 4x2 super crew times for 1/8 mile, at 5.7 sec.
It’s damn fast
The Ford 2.7 engines must be built solid like a tank because they're not blowing up with the hopped up high stressed internal components as aftermarket motors can easily do.
A brilliant video, gentlemen. It's the perfect mix of genuine effort and light heartedness. It's an example to us all; you definitely want to do your very best, but you can still have fun doing it. Congratulations.
You guys left out the most important question. Which ecoboost made the fastest time? 2.7L or 3.5L?
2.7 because of it's larger axle-ratio
Mightz Of Glory it was 3.5. Because he smoked the tires on the 2.7
I own a 2014 F150 Ecoboost and must say this truck is simply fantastic. Driving through the PA mountains doesn't down shift just cruses with no effort never strains at all. This is the most solid truck I have ever owned. My good friend owns a 2014 Hemi, nice truck, but the Ford is quicker. I'll give the sound of the exhaust to the Hemi but it ends there. Both are crew cabs short beds, the Hemi is old technology. Ford wins hands down!!! The Last True America Auto Company!!!
''there's something wrong with the transmission'' that should be dodge and chysler's real name.
These little ecoboost engines are just great. I am squeezing 460hp out of my SHO and still gets 25 mpg. Wait til the aftermarket gets a hold of the 2.7. The power vs displacement is crazy!
WOW!! That 5.0 sounds even better then the previous 5.0L!

Roman & Nathan seem to be expanding--too much ice cream & pizza boys! No wonder the trucks were so slow--all that weight! LOL
Hahaha xD
The Ford 2.7L twin turbo Eco-Boost V-6 would have gotten the best time except for one problem, it has so much power that it literally smoked the tires damn near the entire length of the track. I'm willing to bet if those tires were to actually hook-up, you might see numbers around 5.6 or even 5.7. That is damned impressive. I did not see a single V-8 from any of the automakers do what that 2.7L baby-six could do. I want one and I want it right now. Oh and as for your 6-second time, that was your fault because you were late getting off that light. Does time start when light goes green or when you cross front threshold?
James Barrow I have one right now. It is downright stellar everyday!
Did not see any v8s do what the 2.7 did? It was beat by a GM as usual my man. That 2.7 is impressing, but still a cheap way to own a truck. LS engines are unbeatable in reliability and performance and this video is just further proof.

WRONG! The Ecoboost had the best time of the day at 5.4..It didn't say which EB but the 2.7 would have done even better had it not spun the tires so much.. www.nasdaq.com/article/ford-motor-company-crushes-competition-in-september-sales-results-cm526419
Enrique Suarez
He saw it and that's why he never responded when I pointed it out..You could see all the Ford times were in the 5 second range and the chevys were in the 6 second range and the fastest time of the day was a 5.4 on a Ford Ecoboost.
Ok now attatch a trailer to those mfs and see who pulls it faster. Point is a 2.7 is a p.o.s size of an engine to pull anything without those turbos you have a dodge intrepid engine and you know it. Probably just as unreliable too. Good luck when those compressors go out prematurely when pulling...im already seeing all those ecoboost on the side of the road just like those p.o.s 6.0, 6.4 and 6.7 powercrap diesels
234k on my 05 Silverado HD 6.0L LQ3 for my construction company running synthetic Mobil 1, Fuel mileage is still improving, no oil leaks, no burning oil, still runs great. Total mechanical repair cost on the water pmp, alternator and fan clutch to date is just 1,100.00. That is is a good ROI. I can't imagine twin turbo's on a 6 cylinder doing the same work and having the same record of repairs.
People should just be impressed with the numbers. The 2.7L V6 has only 20 horsepower less and the same amount of torque as the 5.7L Hemi did from 2003-2008 and people felt that it had enough power to put in Ram 3500's. Go back a bit further, to '95 and the 5.7L TBI was 115 horsepower less and 75 ft-lbs of torque less than the 2.7L V6. People who believe there is no replacement for displacement are living in the past.
If you like the 2.7 then read up on it

82% of the 2015 F150 will be made of American parts....
48% of the 2014 Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra is made of American parts....
Not only that ALL GM half tons that are the larger crew cab are VIN code 3. Made in Mexico.
What really is an "American part" ?? A part from a company based in the US ? A company that manufactures here but based somewhere else...a company that only assembles here ? What ?? This is now a global economy, so things (and things that make up things) are made all over.
***** you mean assembled.
erik rod. That's correct. They are assembled there. Every car company assembles stuff in Mexico I just wish they would keep all of the production here.

Niceee. I want the 2.7 in a new ranger.
325 horses in a 2.7L? I'd be totally cool with that tiny motor. Heck I only have 230 now and it's plenty.
Ended up getting a 2015 with the 5.0L. I'm old school.
@@dchawk81 now what you got?
@@vanillathunder8112 I don't have that truck anymore.
Biggest thing I miss about my 5.0l was the sound. That and it was a really fun engine. It let out its roar when you stomped it
The 2.7 will surprise you with how much grunt it haves for being such small displacement. doesn't sound too bad either. I had a chance to drive a 2015 f150 with the 2.7 and I was impressed by the acceleration considering it's a truck. Not too bad Ford, not too bad..
I dont understand why America is worried about losing the v8 to something better! You pay nothing for gas, so why not enjoy a vehicle thats good on it and gets the job done! Lets face it if your towing around 10,000lbs you shouldn't be driving a half ton!
hbre78a In Canada we pay $5.75 a gallon!!
hbre78a Also yes, the US has the lowest price of gas in first world nations!
miklar1971 Im so sorry you have to pay that much, thats bullshit .... AND AMERICA IS ONE COMPLAINING!
You are literally next door to us and you are paying almost $3 USD more than me (Filled up the other day and it was $2.85 and it was from Chevron)
hbre78a If your paying anything for fuel, you've done something wrong in life. It's so easy to find loopholes with personally owned companies and such to wright it off.
hbre78a Go research loopholes that you can take advantage of.
I back Ford all the way. At least they don't go complaining to the government to help them with their failures in money management and production.
+Shaun Emehiser They still did. They just didn't take the money out of the Troubled Assets Relief Program.
www.factcheck.org/2011/09/ford-motor-co-does-u-turn-on-bailouts/
I'd like to see that 2.7 on the dyno compared to the 3.5. Every review I've seen on the 2.7 they say it feels as fast if not faster than the 3.5 eco. Kind of wondering if ford is underrating the 2.7 ecoboost.
I have a reg cab 2×2 2017 2.7 373 gears.it beats everthing.the dyno said 317 hp.its actually around 373 at the crank.if you take 15% threw the drive line to the wheels it comes to 317.
I test drove a 2.7l last week and wow what an engine! I never dreamed a truck could go like that. As far as the longevity/reliability goes we’ll have to see.
That looked like a lot of fun. That new Ford is sharp looking.
Still would take the ram any day. Seems like the only truck brand that is listening to what people want. It's the fastest growin truck brand for a reason
We need gear ratios!! The ram could have had highway/mpg gears and the two ecoboosts could have had 3.73's and the 5.0 could have had 3.31's. This is important too! I highly doubt they gave all the trucks the same gear ratio but you never know.
Damn right, i got a 05 Hemi, and i know damn well i could have beat that time. I beat the shit out of my Hemi allllll the time, and i know how to make it go fast, and in my opinion he wasnt trying. The newer Hemi engines are also night and day better than the one i have. I got nothing really drastic done to my truck either. I have a Magnaflo 2 chamber single pipe.....not twin tail pipe, a K&N cold air kit, swapped my cheesy 17in wheels for 20s, and i lowered the rear to level it instead of raising the front. Other than that, its a bone stock truck, and i was racing a guy with a SAAB turbo cpl weeks ago and blew his doors off. After 100mph he could pull away, but the damn guy nearly lost control of his his car, trying to chase me from lane to lane around a big RV, and just like the lightning truck, my truck could hold a line after lowering the center of gravity on those things.
Nope. I have a 5.0 with 3.31. You can specifically choose which axle you want based on max towing.
Aluminum body F150. Single cab, short bed, 2-wheel drive. I'd like to see what one of those can do.
that's when I think the v-8 will take the ecoboost. because the ecoboost has more torque, but the v8 has more hp and with the lighter truck should help the v8
Mike Hunt Too bad GM won't offer the 6.2 in the RCSB 2wd configuration. A 6.2 with a 228/232-112 cam would be a monster.
Mike Hunt Really? Then why did my 300zxTT beat the shit out of v8 cars with same weight?
Whats faster? Stock 1990 mustang or a 1990 300zx twin turbo?
Thinking that a naturally aspired motor will out run a boosted motor is backwards man. Unless you run nitrous to the v8 it will not be the faster truck. And torque is what wins races. Because 90% of the race is won in the first 60 feet
starbattles1 I see what you are saying but you can't just compare N/A cars to turbo cars. You also have to look at the technology. That 1990 300ZX TT was a beast. It was also over 50 grand new. A 1990 5.0 Mustang could be had for the high teens.
If you want to talk about 1990s V8 vs TT V6 cars why not talk about the 1990 ZR1? :). Out of the box, with a comparable driver, the 1990 Zr1 was over a second faster 0-60MPH than the same year TT Z Car. Same with the 1/4 mile. It's all in good fun. Cheers.
starbattles1 The 5.0 that was out back in the 1990's is a whole different ball game to the one now. The new 5.0 heads flow 330 CFM. Those old 5.0s didn't even flow 260 CFM (even if they did, ford put in a very conservative cam which cuts down the effective flow). For every consumed liter of fuel at 1psi intake vacuum, you can assume 72 foot pounds of torque with an emissions compliant system. 330 CFM on a 5.0 is worth 7500 rpm with over 100% V.E. on a performance oriented cam profile. 72*5*7500*(1/5252) = 514 hp. Ford sells that as the aluminator crate engine. The 204 cam in the normal 5.0 has 154 effective degrees of duration instead of 180, so the ratio of that times the 7500 and the 514 will give you 440hp at ~ 6500 rpm. 200 CFM on the old 5.0 means the thing ran out of air at 4500 rpm, not to mention the emissions junk that was tossed on those things.
I have a 1992 fl150 5.0 with 115000 miles on it and I would like to say that it has ranned well over. The last 10 yrs I've owned it I replaced minor parts but anyways I drive it 365 a year.
I had two Eco's in my F150's. Both were great motors with no problems. However, I love my 5.0 V8. It's old school, and I just love the sound.
The eco boost is a feat of engineering being able to make as much hp , tq as the much larger v 8 but is very complicated highly stressed and expensive engine to work on when things go wrong.Throw in poor maintenance which is what kills most engines that would otherwise do 500k miles and you have a recipe for large repair bills.
Large repair bills only for the poor saps who don't maintain their trucks.
+TheArfdog any body that respect n do regular mantaince on their trucks it will last use all fully synthetic oil n trans fluids
Like those 5.4L engines 329's, try going to get maintenance on one of them. I been around alot of those engines and the lifters are knocking even at idle speeds and some are too young to be smoking due to poor maintenance. the v-8's are most definitely high stressed engines and they are noisy. Before Ford produced these new gen engines only several of them can reach 350k with decent maintenance if the transmission doesnt let go first.
The new torqshifts are insane dude, the one in the super duty is rated for 1400 lb ft stock
wasn't it 925 lb/ft?
Ford was always at the top but now they climbed higher, EB engines are the future and their kicking the competitors V8s asses and getting great MPG doing it. lol No Tundra or Titan they probably figured they wouldn't embarrass them today.
Drugs are bad dude, do a little research the 3.5 EB has more torque (power) than most factory gas V8s produced today. Future is looking better at least for Ford Motor Company.
The Titan is getting a cummins engine :D
archinuk417 They aren't even competing with Ford, You could take all Titan sales since 2004 and they would not add up to 1 year of F-150 sales in the same time period.
Wisconsin Wildman Oh I know. I'm just excited for the Titan with the Cummins engine. My dad has owned two titans and they were great trucks.
That will be a weird seeing a Nissan with a Cummins but I'm sure it will boost their sales up quite a bit.
*Chevy and Dodge drivers:* "Hurr durr six cylinders are too weak and turbos don't last. Real trucks have a V8." Do me a favor. Go look under the hood of any semi truck built in the last 50 years and tell me what you find. Stumped? I'll just tell you then. You'll find 6 cylinders and a turbo. Ask the guys driving the semis how long their trucks last. "Derr, but that's a diesel." The only real mechanical difference between an Ecoboost V6 and those diesel engines is a throttle plate and a set of spark-plugs.
You are aware that the six cylinders engines used semi-trucks are usually inline not a v? If you don't understand how they work you shouldn't endorse this garbage that ford is putting out.
JOHNRA1095 You really think that the fact that it's a V6 rather than a straight six actually matters?
splewy yes it matters.
splewy also you are an idiot
JOHNRA1095 Why do you think it matters? If you're implying that a "V" arraignment of cylinders is somehow less reliable, then why are people acting like V8s are the pinnacle of reliability?
Chevy 6.2L 5.941
F150 3.5L 5.947
F150 2.7L 6.012
F150 5.0L 6.431
Ram 5.7L 6.670
Great video. I don't know is Ford is still doing it on 2017's but in the 2015 and 2016 F150's Ford was using a system that would enhance certain exhaust tones that you would hear in the truck. The Ford explanation is ''The DACMC determines the engine tone to enhance based upon engine rotation speed data, engine torque data, and accelerator pedal position data from the PCM. The data from the PCM is processed and converted into an analog audio signal, transmitted to the DACMC internal tone generator, '' basically,on higher model 3.5 EB's a tougher, meatier sound is pumped through the speakers, as a result when you are in the truck it sounds A LOT different than when you are standing beside the truck. I know, I know... some of you are saying bullshit!!!, but look it up.
FORD The best pick up truck in the world ! Everything is so modern , powerful and amazing plus has the best design and interior !
FoMoCo better keeps their 6.2 on duty, and works up new truck-going V8 work horses to bring to the F-series real fast!
My tuned ecoboost Tremor with 4.10 gears loves silverados and Hemi R/T's.
What are your track times
This just makes me love my 2.7 more!
I would suspect that rear axle ratio would have a great deal of influence in such a comparison.
Ranger, Ranger where's the 2016 Ranger?
2.7 Eco in the Ranger.
and a 6 Speed manual with 4.10 gears.
ZImpresive holy mother of god
Ford and GM and Dodge all took different routes to gain mileage. GM makes a big engine act small, Ford makes a small engine act big, and Dodge went to diesel and more gears. Every one has it's advantages/disadvantages. All comes down to personal preference. I'm a GM guy all the way after owning a couple Fords, and I appreciate the good old fashion, proven V8. I can see longevity potential in the diesel Ram though for sure, I just hate what's going on with the 'greening' of diesels (DEF fluid is a royal pain in the cunt here in -40c Canadian winters). I would consider going back to Ford, only if they made a simple, non-dohc larger displacement engine. I'd cry to see them do or redo something like the 351.
What do you call the 5.0L Coyote?
You don't have tunnel vision do you?
The 5L is not a large displacement V8 the way I look at it. When I say larger displacement I mean 5.7L+. And correct me if I am wrong but did Ford just ditch there big 6.2L engine and replace it with a 2.7L V6? Not saying that Ford is bad, nor is the 5.0L. Just not what I personally look for in a motor.
feel like ford should of boosted there 5.0
+bigkarl24 Insurance would be higher, just imagine the power... Definitely worth it though
If they boost the 5.0 its game over for everyone! Ford would not be able to sell the ecoboost!
It would be a wickedly fast truck.
They would have to tune it differently and run lower compression. You can’t just simply boost the 5.0. It would blow up. When designing a motor you start from the ground up with boost in mind or to maximize naturally aspirated performance.
@@strat1080 you actually can boost the 5.0 people boost the Mustangs all day especially the 3rd gen coyote. daily driving them with over 700hp and have no problems.
People who argue about engines: dont, everthing is crap, nothing is the best. Unless you are an engineer employed by an auto make and have developed an engine then please speak your mind.
Not sure if this was addressed in the comments, but the stated HP for the 3.5L Ecoboost is 340, NOT 365. The 2.7 Ecoboost has 325HP
You can cry all you want and hate on the best but Ford will always outsell Government motors and any Fiat brand!!! Number #1 sold truck and soon you will see everyone making smaller engines on their line of trucks!!! Just wait!!!
Miguel Gonzalez sorry but I am not a homosexual and I would never drive a gay magnet FoRd
Lol combine gmc and Chevy ford wouldn't have near as much compare to gm
the denali looks so much better though. i like the ford front but the tail lights just look weird.
ohhhhhhk
Miguel Gonzalez General Motors has been copying Ford for decades. They will always be playing catch up. I got news for them......they won't ever catch the F-150, period.
Would of been nice to know rear axle ratios was it 3.42s( Chevy) 3.55s (Ford/Ram) 3.73s(Ford/Chevy) 3.92 (Ram). Also I'm guess the Chevy was the 6 speed and not the 2015 with new 8speed?
I'm guessing you're a little butt hurt and her truck and is trying to find an excuse as to why you lost but honestly this test proves nothing except the Ford trucks and faster
uncoolkid2 How is wanting to know all the specs and facts being butt hurt? Just pipe down kid.
im not a ford fangirl we own a ford f150 and a chevy Silverado I don't have a fav motor company I love all car companies and to me he just came off as another person who was looking for reasons one why maybe their fav truck lost. If you look at my channel you will see I am a girl but don't be fooled I am 18 I don't know everything about cars and trucks and don't claim to.
I believe the Chevy has the 3.73 w/ the 6.2 liter max tow package. id like to know as well, since my Ram has the 3.92, and is fairly quick to 45-50 mph. But if the test had a 3.21, it might of hurt off line acceleration. Apples to apples. I don't care about speed, i tow 6k trailer every weekend with ease! Do these Ecoboosts rev hard or what? My Ram never sees above3k rpm unless on steep hills or passing.
Shawn B They do not rev hard when towing, Youd be lucky to even see 3k rpm going up a steep hill or when passing.. Full Torque at 2500rpm and stay there until 4500 rpm until it starts dropping off. No need to have it past 3k when towing or passing
FORD RULES!!!!!!!
One thing stood out to me and that was Nathan saying "there seems to be something wrong with this transmission." That was when he was in the RAM 1500 with the 5.7L Hemi.
My Ecoboost 2013 extra cab 4x4 in stock form runs a 14.6 in the quarter mile at the elevation of 3000 feet.... And it pulls my trailer up the canyon like im pulling nothing. Its really and amazing engine and truck.
Don't get me wrong those ecoboost are impressive little engine but that long time reliability is NOT there and I'm sure of it. I own a silverado and it never needs to rev over 2k around normal driving. My buddys ecoboost on the other hand revs around 3k in normal driving. Might not seem like a big deal now but you can tell the motors is being stressed. My big v8 chugs along getting the same or better mpg in some instances. I love the sudden burst of torque of the eco but that 10k rebuild in a few years won't be present on my truck.
It all depends on his driving style for his rpms. We have a 2011 Ford F1 50 V6 with over 160,000 miles and still going strong it has been from New York to here in cali where we live and back no major issues just the usual with replacing tires and brakes
I don't disagree with your point, but RPMs and longevity aren't connected quite like that. The Ecoboost will likely break sooner because it's under the stress of high boost pressures, not because it has to rev higher. The fact that it has to rev more is a product of it's smaller displacement. Small 4-bangers rev up to 4 and 5k all of the time and can last as long as a large V8. I rev my supercharged 3800-powered Grand Prix GTP above 4 grand every single day, but I drive that car like an idiot. If the 360 in my fifteen year old Dodge sees more than 2500 on the tach, it's pulling a big-ass hill.
Then why does an Ecoboost make peak torque at 2500rpm while most Chevy V8s are closer to 4,000rpm? Maybe your buddy is driving faster then you. Also the 3.5l of displacement and 6cyl configuration has less rotating internal mass. Meaning it doesn't stress bearings and other components during high rpm which a large displacement V8s extra internal mass will ultimately harm the engine at high rpm
*****
well both ram and chevy have 8speed transmission
***** still 6-speed on the 2014 Chevy and GM. Ford and GM were working together on a 9-speed for FWD and 10-speed for RWD.
Leave it up to Ford to bring out the smallest engine ever in a full size truck. If I hear one more person brag about their ecoboost, I'm going to puke. Sorry, tiny little twin turbo V6s does nothing for me. Ford got rid of their 6.2L and added the most tiny fucking engine ever, sounds like a good plan to me, lol. I'll take the 5.0 every time Ford. Do a bunch of women run Ford?
They don't have a choice. They have to meet EPA standards somehow. You can only get so much energy out of a gallon of gas. I'd rather have a turbo than half of my cylinders being deactivated. They are still moving, but no combustion is taking place . . . might as well have a V-6 or I-4. You can laugh about the Ecoboost engines but they are built tougher than any gas engine in any full-size truck today. Many of the components and processes would match diesel specs. For example, there is a steel insert in each aluminum piston for the top oil ring to improve durability. You usually only see this in large semis. The engine also uses a tactic often seen in F1, small holes in the lowest ring seats allow oil to escape to the crankcase, which minimizes drag from oil buildup at high speeds.
Every time I talk to an EcoBoost f150 driver all they talk about is how fast it is and how good of gas mileage they get. But what they don't say is how much they payed for it, which is probably around 50k
Zack Zander I realize they must meet EPA, but there are companies out there, dodge, toyota and chevy, that can meet EPA while still making a 5.7 or 5.3 or whatever natural V8. The problem with the little 6's is that they will be stressed due to the turbo, and therfore will not last as long.
Smallest engine, lighter truck, and worse MPG.
So how big of a displacement when the 5.7 Hemi, the 5.3 Ecotec3 or the 6.2 Ecotec3 are running on, when their cylinders deactivation kick in? half of the original displacement and a v-4? you got to be kidding me! are "worse than women" running GM and Ram now? because the women at Ford were dare to put a v6 in their full size pickups, but these "worse than women" at Ram and GM are using v-4 in their full size? What...LOL!
old school, ignorance, turbocharged GDI haters are jokers!
6:00 no Nathan the Dodge has guts.....and glory.
I like the concept of what Ford is doing with the 3.5 and 2.7L EcoBoost engines and the change to aluminum but I love how GM is sticking with traditional pickup roots.
GM FTW.
My 2018 2.7 ecoboost ran a 14.88@96.90 stock. One wheel drive
I just love the sound of the 2.7 eco boost says noone
i like the ford interior is very nice
Orleans Villarante The ford interiors are cheap and plasticy
Did you see what some others say? It's better to clean than soft touch materials.
+HockeyIsTheRealMVP hey you think you can subscribe to me and I will sub back please subscribe
for giggles, they should put a gmc scyclone and a srt10 ram.
JNFmx 6.2L would mop 'em up. The old '03 Silverado SS 6L used to be two tenths slower than the big ram V10
+C Genious A 6.2 would not "mop up" a 8.4 SRT...Unless mods are done
***** Looked up some specs, 2006 AWD Silverado SS 0-60 6.2 seconds, 1/4M in 14.6seconds. 2005 CC SRT-10 0-60 5.3 seconds, 1/4M in 13.8seconds. A little more than two tenths, but closer than one might think. No truck has matched the 0-60 of the GMC Syclone to this day.
+texas 27 Ya ive read about that sucker too. I dont know if it really counts though? As far as i know its a TRD supercharger than can be installed and warrantied on any Tundra. So its not really a production model? Or are some coming blown from the factory now? Either way thats a really fast truck, but a blown hemi or 6.2 GM would give it a run i would bet.
Nobody here is talking about the real problem with this test... It's done in Colorado where the elevation is over 5000 ft. Bring them down to sea level and repeat the test.
5.0l only makes about 370hp, if I was a ford guy id take the v6 3.5 turbo you really can't beat the motor, the tuning capabilities are sweet
This feels like a ford advertisement.
+cmbezln As we stated. This video was produced from an event designed by Ford. We do more detailed reviews when we get the trucks to our base in Colorado.
Ah ok, makes sense. I watched the whole video and dont remember it being mentioned that it was a ford event, just that there were a bunch of fords. Anyway, cheers for transparency.
+cmbezln you can see them let off the gas before the end except in the eco boost
***** It very well may be, but it makes you wonder why they dont just build the v8 with a turbo or 2 on it.
I guess it would be more powerful than the diesel I suppose.
+Fullforce LTX The movement is toward fuel efficiency as much as building HP & torque. But there are aftermarket companies that are all to happy to supply you with a turbo or supercharger kit for the V8's.
The diesel has a turbo because it HAS to.
Ford wins the truck competition like always oh ya and Mustang>Camaro
hellcat>shelby
+Chris P. Bacon new shelby super snake>hellcat 😝
All of a sudden everyone likes ford😂
it's not all of a sudden it's been like that for quite a lot of years
I've always liked them
+xevo961 Not at all, I'm a dodge fan
I've always liked them and always will
+Optexic Gaming Dodge has been behind Ford for decades
Hey guys, thanks for all the effort you put to shoot these videos and put them up for us. Thanks.
You know what? Sometimes I just want a more simple truck and I think the 5.7 hemi Ram wins that competition. Proven engine without any need for over engineering that doesn't really outweigh the costs IMHO.
282'? In thin air? Maybe where turbos have the advantage? Total rigged Ford ad.
+Christopher Bice
Yep, my thought exactly. A truly objective comparison would be done near sea level. All I really care about is what will last longer and my money will always be on the big engine that is loafing along. Hopped up little engines with hair dryers don't last very long.
+Timothy Sharpe That is what I worry about, little stressed engines. What happens when those turbo chargers give out!! you have a 40k lawn ornament. I will stick with the tested V8. I know they last.
+Christopher Bice They are in San Antonio!
+Christopher Bice Im kind of neutral on the whole Ford, Chevy, Ram thing. I currently own an 2008 F150 with the 5.4L which I have 1/4 mile street raced a friends 2009 5.7L Hemi Ram and beat usually by a half a truck or less on any given race. That same friend just traded in his Ram for the 3.5L Ecoboost F150 and smokes me now easily by 3 or 4 truck lengths, it's not even close really. So I tend to buy what these guys are saying... the 3.5L is crazy quick to torque up and the 2.7L is supposed to be even faster.
+preston121068 my ram rt beats my friends eco boost all day
5.48? Damn!!! The 2.7/3.5 v6 smoked the massive 6.2 v8 shit-rado and the heavy ass boat anchor pos 5.7 v8 dodge! Just wait chevy and dodge will completely copy ford and start making lighter weight trucks with smaller engines... Garunteed
They don't need to copy shit because most customers don't give a damn about 0-60 times. The new Silverados and Tahoes are killing everything as far as looks are concerned. Chevy are built better and I've owned more Fords than chevy.
You like the new Chevys??! They look fucking ass ugly! Especially the new suburbans! And I wasn't talking about 0-60 times.. The ecoboost is lighter, better mpg, more power, and amazing for towing..
Bradley Smith You just have bad taste. Ecoboost seems nice, but reliability hasn't been proven. The Vortec is proven. I have a bad history with Ford products that I've owned. I was just at a car show were they had all of the 2015 models in one building. No one was even checking out the Ford or Lincoln trucks. The only ford that got any attention was the new Mustang 5.0. People were impatiently waiting their turn all day long to sit in the new Tahoe and Escalade all day long. The Corvette was the biggest crowd pleaser, another chevy product. The Hellcat was roped off so no one could sit in it. I sat in a top of the line King Ranch, but the seats in the Chevy felt better. I really don't think the performance aspect is that important as far as pulling is concerned. I see guys in 3500s pulling light loads super slow. I feel like they never use the full potential of the truck's power anyways. I'd rather have a Cadillac Escalade ext with 403hp than any of these trucks.
I was worried about reliability also but I bought one in 2010 (first year they ever came out) and I still have it. So far 83,000 miles with no problems other than spark plugs and oil changes. Amazing truck! I would've got the 5.0 v8 if I didn't tow on a weekly basis, sometimes as much as 11,000lbs. The reliability has been proven to me but I can easily see how other people wouldn't trust it because of the newer technology and turbos and stuff.
+Bradley Smith don't judge quickly, let's wait and see the maintenance bill of a Twin Turbo charged engine :D
You would definitely wish it has 15MPG instead of 30MPG with $10k maintenance fixing cost
How about a 60 mile an hour head on crash between a Ford F150 aluminum and a Chevy or GMC or ram 1 1/2 ton and see which crash dummy does better🙀
billy fatbowe Uh the Ford has all 5 star crash ratings except for rollover and it's 4 star.
They use rocket-grade aluminum
+Docter Yoda No, they don't. They use aircraft/military grade aluminum.
Abraham Oh, okay
loving how all the v6 haters are hating mad but the v6 still out powers most other engines.
This video was pretty awesome guys! as someone whos probably buying a truck in a year or two I really appreciate all these videos. I can't wait till for releases the F-150 so I can get a test drive in
After all of that they couldn't tell you which Ecoboost pulled the 5.4?
What is it, the 3.5l or the 2.7l?
C'mon guys!!!!
Who would've thought a truck review and comparison would turn into a pissing match between a bunch of losers with nothing better to do than to bicker about trucks they probably don't even own!? Lol
But which truck ran the 5.4?? I must knowwww
David Frost 2.7
Efffin incredible! Who would have thought Twin turbo V6's 10 YEARS AGO! WOW!
Chevy did a turbo v6 8n the 80s nothing new here
Now that's what i call "having fun at the job"!
blah blah blah love it or hate it, that truck outsells all the other trucks, must be doing something right...
Regardless of the times, I would still take the 5.0
soo this isn't 0-60, its 0-282 feet in how many seconds..!!!!
+WPGinterceptor It's important to remember that trucks aren't designed to sprint from stop light to stop light. They are made to haul, pull, and tow.
yeah, just pointing out this is NOT a 0-60 video! its a 0-282 feet in how many seconds video
+Bill White I agree with 100% on this but some disagree trucks are meant for sprint and drag racing crazy.
Anthony Macneil I disagree.. of course they are meant for pulling etc.. BUT this shows they are also quick! they have 0-60 times that would beat a lot of old muscle cars!!
I got a Ford Escape with Ecoboost (trying to downsize and be more economical than my 13 MPG Durango) and I have noticed that turning the traction control OFF make sit faster.
With traction control on it will release the throttle with any tire slipping.
It is faster to let it slip a little than letting off and on the throttle with traction control.
I'm impressed by these new F-150s. Although I am feeling better with my F-250's hawg 6.2l. I'm getting 16mpg on hwy finally! They need to do a 6.2l ecoboost.
