    As someone who wishes to attend Barnard, I was wondering if you had a really defining experience there or a memory you can recall that was because of Barnard? Even a tradition that you hold dear? I love the community that many Barnard students seem to express when talking of their experience at the school so I was interested in how it was developed other than school size.

    How do you fulfill all your requirements for your major if both columbia and barnard have a core curriculum/ classes that are mandatory to take? Do you finish taking the mandatory classes by a certain year? Thanks!

    • @ohannamohammad5241
      @ohannamohammad5241  Před 3 lety +5

      Hey! It really depends on how you decide to organize your schedule and what your major's department wants. But generally you just need to get all your requirements done by graduation, with a few exceptions like first year requirements and gym class.

    Do you feel safe on campus and around Manhattan? And do you have any major cons about going to Barnard? Is it toxically stressful/competitive?

    • @ohannamohammad5241
      @ohannamohammad5241  Před 3 lety +4

      Hi thanks for your question! I do feel very safe and comfortable on campus and in Manhattan generally. I do think (especially given the events which occurred in the past year) it's important to take reasonable precautions to keep yourself safe. I think the biggest con of going to Barnard is price since it's so expensive compared to other college options and living in Manhattan is extremely expensive. In terms of stress culture, I think that toxic stress and competitiveness is definitely present but it really all depends on what you decide to study and how you personally process the pressure of college. For some, the pressure may be very overwhelming while for others it can be manageable. Hope this helps!!

      Yes, you can definitely be pre-Med. I know you can take some classes at Columbia as a pre-Med, but I’m not sure of exactly what is required for them as I am not part of the program myself.

    hi! do u think its fair for barnard students to say they attend columbia uni? idk bc my friend does and tells everyone she attends columbia. but even tho barnard is an undergrad college of columbia, they have completely different application processes and columbia is an ivy with a 4% acceptance rate...while barnard is also competitive and great im just confused like is it fair for her to say that. yes the diploma will have columbia but it will have barnard too, not solely columbia, so is it fair? no hate barnard rocks

    • @kaitlyng2
      @kaitlyng2 Před 3 měsíci +1

      it’s fair of her to say she goes to Columbia (University). when people say they go to Columbia though, they are usually referring to Columbia College (the ug college). The technical full name for Barnard is Barnard College of Columbia University (or Barnard College, Columbia University), so she wouldn’t be wrong in saying it, but there’s nothing shameful about Barnard so there’s no reason for her to deny Barnard (if that’s what she’s doing). barnard students have all of the same resources as the Columbia College students as well as Barnard specific resources. Also, all of the undergraduate colleges share a sports team, clubs, dining halls, classes, etc. the main differences is the choice of curriculum, which is more of a preference than anything else. many people get into both schools but choose one over the other because they like one curriculum more. barnard just has a separate app process because the school itself was made to push against the idea of women not being able to go to Columbia historically. columbia (as a university) tried to formally merge them completely, but they wanted to be their own (in some capacity) because barnard is essentially an act of activism, and merging completely would take away some of the uniqueness of Barnard and the hard work put in to educate intelligent women. sometimes it’s easier to just say columbia for people instead of trying to explain the barnumbia relationship lollll. It doesn’t really matter which she says as long as she’s not trying to completely deny barnard

    • @LOLA.WILLIAM
      @LOLA.WILLIAM Před 3 měsíci +2

      @@kaitlyng2 yes she never denies but she just doesn’t mention Barnard ever. For reference, I’m in NYU stern (so that’s why im confused). anyone new we meet, and they ask for her college, she always replies with ‘Columbia’. I personally believe it’s to make people think she attends an ivy. While Barnard is honestly amazing as well, I just feel like she’s doing this to sound better at times…I’ll ask her about it. Thanks for the clarification!
