    hi! I am applying to Barnard regular decision, and this was super helpful! you made me feel so much better about my chances! I was wondering if you would be comfortable talking about the specifics of the grant you received? did you have to apply? thank you!

    • @MetzliNieves
      @MetzliNieves  Před 4 lety +4

      Ryesa McGehee Hi! The grant I received was given to me by Barnard, I did not apply for it. It is funded by a private donor of the school. Barnard has many grants that they give out to students and mine focused on immigration, which my personal statement revolved a lot around. After I received the grant and accepted it I was able to meet the donor, so that’s super cool! Also, Barnard has a yearly scholarship reception where we get to have dinner with other donors and scholarship recipients.

    Hi! I loved you video, thank you! Well, my name is Jamile and I am from Brazil (!). I'll apply this year tô Barnard, but I am really worried about the cost of living in nyc. How was this experience for you (considering you are a full-ride student)?

    • @MetzliNieves
      @MetzliNieves  Před 4 lety +2

      Thank you so much for watching! As for your question well NYC is expensive, especially the area that Barnard/Columbia. I try to not eat out as much as the prices can add up and textbook wise I almost always get mine at the library. In regards to living off campus, I probably wont be the best to ask since I live in a dorm. You also need to allocate for expenses for traveling, a single ride train pass is $2.75 and $5.50 for round trip. So keep in mind if you are looking to explore the city to make sure you are keeping track on how much train/bus fair will be. Let me know if you had any specific questions! :)

    HI! I'm applying as a transfer to Barnard for next fall. My grades have always been good, both in high school and now at the college I am attending. I graduated with honors in high school and made Dean's List this past semester at my college. I also was very involved in extra-curricular activities. I'm worried that because I didn't take AP classes in high school and that my SAT score was subpar, that I have a low chance of getting in. I took a few honors courses, but mostly took classes that were considered "college prep" in my high school. My senior year I also did dual enrollment and took a class at a college campus. I'm very strong in writing and feel like I could write a very strong essay, but I am still worried academically. What do you think about my chances on getting in?

    • @MetzliNieves
      @MetzliNieves  Před 4 lety +4

      babybails to be completely honest. You sound like a very competitive candidate but at the end of the day I am not a college admissions officer so I cannot tell you if you have a high or low chance of getting in. Every student is different! I’ve met people with higher GPA’s than me and people who have taken more AP’s than me. It all depends on who is reading your file and making the decision. I would say focus on your essays and supplements as those are the only things you have complete control over (you can’t really change what grades you got in high school). Wishing you the best of luck! 😊

      Selena Angel I think they were pretty standard interview questions. Tell me about yourself and why Barnard were the two main questions, but other questions naturally stemmed based off of my answers. I feel like I asked more questions than than the alumna had for me, but that’s because I came prepared and am genuinely interested and excited about the school.

    Hi! I’m applying this year but missed the early decision deadline...the fact that you are accepted through regular decision comforts me a lot! But can I ask what other schools have you applied to? I am afraid that if Barnard rejects me and puts me in an awkward situation, so I kinda want to do ed2 for other colleges...but then I’m so afraid that I would miss Barnard...any suggestions?

      I applied to 6 CUNY schools, 4 SUNY schools, NYU, Fordham, Columbia, and UPenn. I would say still apply to Barnard without a doubt but also look for other schools that interest you. For me, Barnard was one of my "reach" schools and I honestly doubted myself a lot through the application process. But have faith in what you have done and the work you have done!
