That entire opening sequence of Pee Wee's Big Adventure was hilarious: The retractable bed sheets, the bunny slippers sniffing the toy carrot, Pee Wee lifting 3lb weights like its 50lbs. and the whole morning breakfast Goldberg machine leading to Pee Wee eating one bite of food and feeling full!! HEE-LAR-EE US!!!! LOL
Why so many breakfast machines? I'm guessing it's because so many screenplay writers want to start the first scene with the main character waking up in the morning. So, if that character is either a nutty inventor, or a general screwball... gotta have the breakfast machine... no matter how cliche' it's become.

+Patrick Melody i think it's got more to do with the inherent desire to make the morning routine as easy as possible, if you had a machine that would cook breakfast for you each morning it'd be great wouldn't it? of course,...what they don't show is them having to reset a lot of those things each night before bed lol
+Patrick Melody I don't think a breakfast machine is a cliché, like most Rube Goldberg machines, they're fun to look at. However, look at the opening credits from 4:52 until 5:13. That's a way to hammer in the main character is intelligent and depending of your knowledge on math, that text is cringe-worthy.

I'm not entirely sure if CGI or animated sequences should count in this list, but that's just me.

I know its not a movie but there was a sketch on Family guy with a Rube Goldberg Machine, that supposedly makes breakfast, but ends in a gun being fired at Peter Griffin. I do believe he was using the same machine as Peewee's.

But Pee-Wee's whole house is amazing. I recently watched that opening and I suddenly remembered how much I loved the movie as a kid. That whole house is a child's dream if silly fun an insane mechanics in action.

At 7:54, WRONG!!! Pee-Wee's Big Adventure was released in 1985, not 1995.
I loved these machines when I was a kid.
Wallace and Gromit - A Close Shave when Wallace gets ready for window cleaning through so many cool contraptions and Gromit just opens and closes the door to hop on the bike and put on his helmet.

I think this is the first time you mentioned Robots in a Top 10 list. Robots is an underrated movie.

Unfortunately not from a movie, but my favorite for its elegance & cinematography is the opening-credits sequence to the reimagined Sherlock Holmes TV series 'Elementary.'

Why are so many of these doodads used for making breakfast? I counted at least 5 (6 you count the dog food one).
Honda Car advert in the UK called "The Cog" - every part of the Honda Car is used in a rube goldberg layout.

The crosstown express is my favorite scene from Robots as well as my favorite Rube Goldberg machine
I wish I could ride the Crosstown Express.
I always wanted to build a Rube Goldberg machine when I was a kid, have it set up in my house like the breakfast machine in chitty chitty bang bang or any evil masterminds Traps, like The great mouse detective or the older james bond and dr. evil movies.
I feel like Garfield was overlooked. Possibly because the machine wasn't planned. But nevertheless, the greatest and funniest Rube Goldberg scene ever.

There was a Rube Goldberg test in Waiting... that was used as the decorations in the restaurant, but they've managed to set it off in the movies making of documentary. Plus, Jackass tried doing a Goldberg test with the crew being apart of the test, but it failed.

All of the devices in "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang" were created by Rowland Emmett,a cartoonist and kinetic sculptor. Like everything he created,they all actually worked,in their own limited way (although the filmmakers did exaggerate what they could actually do).
