That's exactly what I was thinking, but then it's weird that they don't bullet point the "Two DLCs" then do for the others making them look like a subdivision of that thing. It's like they're being deliberately confusing.

I'd buy the whole game but then I'd have to owe Jabba some money.
Surprisingly very common misconception about it all is that Jabba is locked to the DLC only, when that isn’t the case. Jabba is an important part of the story.
The mission “Jabba’s Gambit” is the DLC that is also about Jabba.
The pricing of it all is definitely absurd

The Jabba the Hutt mission is separate from the story dlc it’s just one singular mission
About the season pass.... its two dlc things after launch + the other 2 listed dlc things inc. Jabba's gambit
what this approach is doing to me is very simple: It means I won´t buy the game on release. I´ll wait a few years until there´s a complete edition for 20€ or so. That also means I don´t need the most high end gaming PC because right now I´m playing games that are already a few years old because of the same stuff. After all the greed of those companies saves me a lot of money and since I´m much more into singleplayer games anyway I literally have no downsides.

Jabba and cosmetics are not the same as the DLCs, HG. Still annoying they have a paywall, but it’s not that high price for Jabba and cosmetics. It’s only a spit in the face, not a spit in the face and a kick in the nuts

Leaving out all the points you mentionend: people shouldnt pre-order at all. You pay the developers upfront for something that might be very broken and not ready, and yet they will do it again if enough people do it
Yes, I have said this times and times again. There are zero reasons to pre-order a product that gets released in an unlimited quantity.
@@theomnitorium7476building off of that: pre-ordering was understandable for high profile releases when everything was on disc. Nowadays when a disc is just gonna take you somewhere to download the game, absolutely not.
You're not paying the devs, its the execs if you think that game devs want to do this well they don't but everyone up top makes them. By not preordering you're forcing the higher ups to change, they keep doing this because people buy them.
They did clarify that the base game has Jabba missions in it and the DLC is an additional one. It kind of is a dumb norm though. They basically keep working on stuff for a title after it's gone gold and the majority of the time I just skip it entirely, or just wait so long for a port that it ends up being a "complete edition" lol. Though the Ultimate edition just makes me want to wait for the Sale edition. I could sort of get charging for extra missions, but cosmetics in a single player game is just funny.
Sterling might have warned about these business practices once or twice.

The two DLCs included in the Season Pass are not "Jabba's Gambit" and the "Kessel Runner Character Pack" but two still unnamed (probably bigger) Story-DLCs that will be released after launch. "Jabba's Gambit" and the "Kessel Runner Character Pack" is additional smaller content that will directly be available at launch. I admit that the wording is a bit confusing, but you actually got it wrong 😁
I found out there's actually 5 editions at least. There's 2 exclusive physical editions. There's a GameStop exclusive Deluxe Edition that includes the Sabacc Shark cosmetic pack and there's an Amazon Limited Edition with the Rogue Infiltrator cosmetics. Both versions costing $70.
What I also really love about the "3 Day Early Access" thing is that when a AAA game releases 3 Days Earlier and is an absolout mess you´ll find alot of people who will defend thegame using the "early access" state as an argument. The amount of people that confuse greedy "early access" strategies from billion dollar companies with necessary "early acess" from small indy developers is astounding. With this little trick those companies can release the most broken of games for 10€ more than the original price and a ton of people will still be happy with the product because it´s "early access"

There was a statement made by Ubisoft clarifying that the mission that is locked behind the paywall is a DLC mission and that all players will still be able to play the core story missions with Jaba and the Hutt cartel. That doesn't excuse this overall scummy practice Ubisoft have been doing lately of treating their games as live service titles where people have to pay more for extra stuff like a Season Pass. It's okay to be made at Ubisoft for this, let's just make sure we're made for the RIGHT reasons.
Got AC Syndicate the other week for free. was lovely to play. I will most likely play star wars outlaws eventually, when the price has dropped below the 20$ Mark. Which could happen quite quickly tbh. we shall see
The base game is $110 here in Australia and the ultimate edition is $200. Unlockable skins that were once available through gameplay are now sold as "bonus" exclusives. Paying for story expansion's that haven't even been fully developed yet is asking to much. I love the Star Wars universe but Ubisoft will not be getting my money this time. My soul will kick my arse if I cave to these predatory business practices.
I’m 27 and I don’t get it either. The only thing that makes sense to me is getting a bundle of the game and a DLC pre-order. Why there needs to be three to sometimes five different versions of one game each with different stuff that you’re never going to deal with more than once, if that, is beyond me.
By Comparison, ConcernedApe keeps releasing extensive DLC, years after Stardew Valley's launch, for FREE!

These companies have to come up with better ways to market these games. All I think when I see $130 is, “If I wait for a Steam sale, I could literally buy 20+ full games for the same price.” The same goes for the $70 standard, honestly. They’ve got to come up with a better way.

These big publishers have learned that you can nickle and dime their customers over years of pushing the envelope.
Videogames do stupid amounts of money but they are still treated as a pump and dump scheme, publishers don't care about what these things can do long term as long as they give them lots money here and now for the CEOs and the shareholders.
Ubisoft isn't new to such shenanigans and many other big publishers make use of similarly underhanded tactics, it's why I rarely if ever buy a so-called "triple A" game at day one (and the last ones I did were the rare high budget flight game like Ace Combat 7 or Star Wars Squadrons).
Yeah, seeing that price tag makes me not want to buy the game at all until hearing some more reviews. That seems to be the way things are heading.

What sucks is that this game appeals to me as a Star Wars fan who prefers the more scoundrel characters like Han Solo, Mandalorian, Lando, etc. but Ubisoft pulling some bullshit like this really turns me off from the game completely.

I agree except for one thing: we shouldn't get used to it. They should take cues from games like Fortnite. Regardless of whether you like the game or not, they have offered their game for free from day 1 and have found ways to make money through skins and battle passes (which don't give you an advantage btw) and sponsorships. I think that's an amazing model. Outlaws doesn't even have to offer their game for free, but charging your customers for all this extra content, which should just be part of the original game...that's not the answer either.
I get all Ubisoft games do this, as far back as like.....2014 with Watchdogs they've done it, but it really is sucky.
Don't really care about the season pass having the 2 expansions, that's fair. I just don't like it when stuff that's clearly finished and is sliced out to be added on as a bonus.
But another part of me also 'understands' that this stuff is done to please shareholders. Like they have quotas to meet and some suit heard they were working on a Jabba mission as part of the game and some suit was like "ey the nerds like the big fat slug make em pay for it" and the people actually in the trenches don't really have much of a choice.
However if my Goat Salacious Crumb plays a major role he's clearly worth the 110$ price of admission bar none. Lol
If it's a big deal then don't buy the pass or the game at all that simple. I do think that extra DLC, work that is done by devs after the game is released should be compensated. I think the pricing model they is bloated and a bit overkill. Also you can you pay for ubisoft+ for a month that includes the extra content play for a month and resubscribe when the DLC come.

If you’re gonna release a game with day 1 DLC, the rest of the game better be completely bug free. If you had time to make DLC, you had time to fix those issues.

I'll buy the standard edition, but I'm even on the fence about that. This is so scummy. Remember when collector's editions had actually cool physical items? A real physical art book, a figure, a map, a soundtrack, a poster, iron on patches, pins, etc? Me too. I miss those.

I've played games almost my entire life and I'm almost 40, and I've become even more critical of how I spend my money. Ubisoft and EA are some of the scummiest practitioners of these schemes. This doesn't surprise me the least, and I've grown and become to the point that my FOMO-patience has evolved to wait until some scummy game costs a mere 10 bucks on sale in some supermarket.

Day one DLC is just stupid and greedy. The content already exists, just put it in the base game.

Ubisoft could get so much good will in the community if they just back tracked on this release scheme and made the jabba mission and cosmetics free with the standard edition of the game. Everyone would like that and happily praise them for it. Then they'll release the DLCs post launch and it will be alright.

Modern games with 3 days early access are a joke. At launch most are so buggy and crappy, almost unplayable. And the Ubisoft expext us to pay MORE for such an experience? Wait a year or two, and you can grab full game with all DLC, season pass and fully patched for $10-20.

They make their money off average Joe who only plays weekends, so by the time he finishes the game, he's spent almost as much on the subscription as the game woulda cost. Then he forgets to cancel, and now they've made a profit.

In fact, this makes it more likely I’ll wait a year or two for the price to drop before I buy it. Last year I bought Cyberpunk with the Phantom Liberty expansion pack for $30. Somehow, I survived without playing Cyberpunk until it was in the bargain bin. 🤷🏻♂️
