What i love about this song is goes from a dirge to a celebration. We dont just have five years left... We get five years together.
When this album came out, the odds were that the Human Race would destroy itself. It was the heart of the Cold War, our Nuclear weapons were on a hair trigger, Nuclear subs of the US and Russia were playing cat and mouse games 24 hrs a day. Numerous times, small mistakes brought us to the very brink of launching missiles on both sides. In almost every case, Officers went against their clear orders, not willing to destroy the World because a computer said their had been an attack. Most Generals wanted to launch a First Strike and take the chance that they could cripple the response of their enemies. It was common to hear them say that we would only lose 30 or 40 million people, and having fought in WWII where 100 million had died, 40 million was deemed acceptable.....
It's not from Top Of The Pops. The visual was from another show called The Old Grey Whistle Test were David Bowie was singing live. Somebody replaced the original audio with the studio version of the song.

You should listen to this album from start to finish. This was his peak, well his first peak, he had a few, battled his way out of addiction and eventually helped people like Trent Reznor get out of that horrible pit.
When this song came out it was about the next ice,age, we had not heard of global warming 😂
There's a notorious article from the 70s, Time magazine, where Time completely misunderstood a scientific journal on Global Warming, and touted that there would be a second ice age. The journal obviously didn't say that, but did conclude that the earth was warming due human produced carbon throwing off the earth's carbon cycle.
I highly suggest people look up how the carbon cycle works, and how the earth is actually geared to handle things like volcanic eruption, but how much CO2 humans put into the air. Spoiler, we dump a LOT more CO2 than volcanoes.
Eh, this is from Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars. It's a concept album about a band that becomes famous and the singer destroys himself. Five years is how long the band lasted.
As Bowie explained in interviews. he had a dream that his dead father told him that he only had five more years before he would die. The climate change cult didn't form until Al Gore made his BS movie for the easily deceived.
i always assumed this was about a comet or meteor impact, because that is the only kind of world-ending disaster that you could actually put a date on (if you had good data on its path)

the bear pic was a fraud to begin with. bears starve to death when they get too old and sick to hunt.
the global warming crowd took a picture of an old dying bear and tried to pass it off as a bear that was starving because of "sea level rise"
That was my favourite on that album.
I suggest putting the word ‘reaction’ at the end of your video titles. That way, it’s easier for people to find and discover your videos.
Plus it’s just a more honest title.
Why would the person who requested the song want a video NOT from the official site?
Listen to the album without someone having added their baggage on to it, the 'World Ending Event' is never specified. The album is a masterpiece btw

This is such a great song. I'm sad that they turned this song into a global warming scare. The Polar bear scare from ten years ago is over. They didn't die off as they predicted. Sorry I went off the rails but that song wasn't about climate change. It was about a dream he had. In his dream, his father told him that he should never fly again and that he only had five more years before he would die.
This was totally lip synched. It sounds precisely like the studio album
It was a mock-up, synced to video footage long after the fact but there are many incredible live versions available..
That's how Top of the Pops operated. They would play the studio track, and the performers would lip synch to it. This is a well-documented fact, and is brought up in the movie Bohemian Rhapsody, among others.
Thats TOTP pops for you, there are many bands such as Oasis and Nirvana that protested lip syncing when they were on the show. I am sure Iron Maiden did it as well.
