  • This was a custom box made for a customer who had removed is 2nd row seats and sliding cargo tray. He wanted a permanent built in system he wouldn't have to remove or mess with every time he went camping. In the end he was very pleased with how the system worked and finished product turned out.

    ABOUT ME I grew up in a cabinet shop and was a born to be woodworker. In the past few years when work slowed in the custom cabinet industry I converted a few friends Vans and SUV's so they had more storage for adventuring, work, or just the weekend beach getaway. Before I knew it I had my own business making people's ideas come to life. I design and build all kinds of custom wood work and vehicles here at my shop in Huntington Beach, California! I like your work really nice. I build stuff on the weekend here San Gabriel Valley for fun. One thing my wife grandpa who was a cabinet make showed me that really finishes of the cabinets use the router to bullnose/round over all the sharp edges/corners that little touch will really impresses the customers when they bump against them, they will thank you later.

    I started making this same type of build for my 4Runner. When I started work on it, I considered the ramifications if someone rear-ended me/my family in it. With so many distracted drivers today that’s a very real possibility. Even a moderate rear-ending could catapult that rigid structure into the backs of the front seat occupants. This may cause death or paralyzing. I couldn’t live with that risk myself. So, I modified my design to be collapsible in the event of a rear-ending accident by 2-3 feet. I’m surprised so many builds do not plan around this potential. Has no one else designed a collapsible version? Maybe I should make a video on my design that I’m building now.

Its just a different area to work with because it steps down on the frame. So if you get a chance to look a one of suvs and have some ideas please let me know.

    @gomrko Před 4 lety +1

    Well done. I like it, a lot. I may do something similar in my land cruiser. Could you put the drawers all the way forward to the front seats? I have that same stove. I think I would mount the stove permanently to a slide out shelf pretty much where you have it but a bit lower with room for a small bottle of propane. And maybe permanently fix the lid over the stove as another horizontal area close to the action.

    • @SolidWoodWorx
