This time of year: 1. A cashmere knit dress, tall boots and wool blazer; or 2. Wool or leather skirt, silk shirt or cashmere sweater, depending on temperature, again with tall boots and blazer. With tights matching the skirt or dress, and the boots, but only in my neutral and basic (navy, forest green, etc.) colors, no lime green or purple. With midi length skirts and dresses, I often just wear long socks instead.🙂

I love a beautiful sweater (chunky or fitted), trouser jeans, pointy toe booties, matching belt & nice jewelry. That’s probably my “uniform” when I don’t feel like putting an outfit together 😅

Great video thank you! :)) Every season (Fall/Winter or Spring/Summer, so only 2) I come up with a uniform for lounge or "warmth" and one for out and I collect pieces that fit into the uniform. It makes getting dressed very easy. In the Fall/Winter it is almost always jeans, a blouse/top, with jacket (or sweater) and boots. If it is a very casual outing I will wear a sweat shirt instead and sneakers. In the past most all jeans had a similar cut making the wardrobe a bit more staid and boring. Now jean cuts are all over the place so making it both more fun and more challenging. So I need to plan for "capsules" that work with each type of jean cut I own. I knew the fitted on one end baggy on the other from back when baggy was stylish years back. I like it too because I alway feel more beautiful, if I only show off one body part at a time.

For other people with green eyes, maroon and purple look great but they can be really statement eyeshadow colors so if you're looking for something more subdued, I personally really like soft pinks and browns that lean almost purple and I've been told by green-eyed people with warmer skin that they really like peaches or coppery browns since all of those colors lean into that reddish/purplish side of the color wheel. Hope that helps if anyone wanted suggestions!

I find it so hard to find basic transitional/versatile pieces anymore. I haven’t been a fan of most trends over the past few years and just want simple, classic pieces that are cut for my body type.😩

I am a new subscriber, you popped up in my feed and I thought I'd have a look. Beyond the style tips, I just love your sense of humour, pragmatism and how you keep emphasising that we are all just fine as we are - something that I have believed for a long time - and it's the outfit not our body that needs attention! I'll be back.

In addition to the posing and styling tricks, models are generally close to 6 feet tall and they’re modeling an XXS or XS version of the item. There’s no way the item will look like that on most women, even without the tricks. The average woman in the US is 5’4” and size 16! I’m a borderline petite height at 5’4” but have a delicate, narrow frame and I just get lost in oversized clothes. I haven’t, and won’t, buy any oversized style, but brands usually don’t describe a garment as such, or it might say “relaxed fit”, which means having an inch or two extra ease, which is not at all the same thing as oversized. If the description says relaxed fit, I size down to the smallest size, which sometimes works, sometimes does’t. (I’m about a medium, or US 6, or 8 or even 10 in a garment with a fixed waistband). Relaxed, yes, enormous, no! I’m excited about the fitted-waist blazers and coats, I found two, ok,-ish coats in this style, but they have some polyester. I haven’t found any high-quality blazers in this style yet, I hope they will come soon (for me, they have to be 100% wool or cashmere, with a breathable, non-polyester lining). The really high-quality brands are still only making enormous ones, sadly. I really want clothes that already fit without having to do fussy styling tricks.

Thanks, Jules- Such helpful tips. When mentioning oversized looks, I think it's especially true that those of us who are short-waisted or short-torso'd can easily look awash in fabric with some of these styles. I found it really helpful when you mentioned that just because it looks good on the models in the photos, so many styling maneuvers are used to trick the eye into thinking you'll look shapely underneath all that fabric. Your reminder can save us so much disappointment so we don't order these looks, then our package arrives and we look like we might as well have jumped into a burlap bag. So-- thanks for that! By the way, you look so pretty ....and your doggy was listening so attentively to your style advice. Adorable! 🐶♥

No reason to sacrifice style for comfort/heat. In the winter I always wear fitted thermal tops and tights and that will open a new world of possibilities, I can wear almost anything and still feel toasty. Also when I shop for clothes I always want everything I buy to feel like pijamas. No zippers that stab you in the belly, no pieces that are too tight or too itchy, no super tight sleeves that block your arms. You can still wear whatever you want but it has to be the right fit. A dress or a pair of elevated pants can feel as comfortable as sweatpants if you really commit to the right fit.

If I hate my outfit, it’s because of a comfort issue with one or more of the items. If it’s just wrong aesthetically, I won’t wear it. Another thing I hate is pants that are too big around my skinny hips and thighs, but they’re all like that on me. Or, I thought they were until I just discovered those from Franne Gold, they’re perfect (no brand affiliations). I’m so tired of “de-hipping and de-thighing” every pair I get, to remove those enormous hip curves.

NO butt jewelry studs on jeans. I have a damage wooden chair from a friend sitting in it. They have to strip the whole chair to fix it. No grantee it will be the stay color as the other chairs. Heartbroken.

I prefer “emphasizing” my best body parts, and “de-emphasizing” the less great ones. Camouflaging, hiding or covering unloved body areas usually just adds bulk and shapelessness. I prefer to quiet them down, rather than cover them, so I don’t lose my shape altogether.
