    Looking expensive is never my goal-my goal is to look more sophisticated or classic or "classy"(don't care for that phrase though. You can spend a fortune and still look cheap.

      I don't like the word "classy" either. Although I do like "classic" . Styles that are timeless, whether it's budget or high end

      @@midlifemom5829That's a distinction without a difference.

    Fit is critical, too. If you can’t get a good fit, I recommend trying more brands until you do. Minor alterations like taking up hems or sleeves are relatively inexpensive, but a garment must fit the shoulders, hips, bust and waist. Tailors are not magicians and some alterations can cost more than a garment does, taking in shoulders, for example, in a lined jacket. Once I find a brand that fits me well, I stick to it.

    Excellent video. I would also suggest making friends with your iron and / or steamer and using a clothes shaver as needed. Keep your footwear polished and in good condition.

      I forgot to mention a lint roller. If you saw my dogs, you would understand why I buy lint rollers in bulk!

    I definitely agree with this. I've been told look expensive just by nature, which is cool, people always think I'm dressed up because I live in long sleeveless dresses, for me that's casualwear in the same way hoodies and yoga pants are for a lot of my friends (I have even dressier dresses, though). I LOVE sunglasses, maybe too much, my friends tease me about the fact I never take my sunglasses off like Anna Wintour, but I love them. I buy a lot of luxury goods on clearance or discount (or preloved) because they're just as awesome now as they were when they were more trendy. Sometimes I find stuff that's 90% off because of minor cosmetic damage that's nearly invisible (like a wine stain on a purple dress). I actually grew up kinda poor so it helped me appreciate the truth that you can find off-label stuff for just as good as brand name if you know where to look. I still retain some of my habits from growing up. I give friends food I made in old spaghetti sauce jars and wash out old food containers and use them as Tupperware.

    This is an excellent video. The examples you show are so helpful. I wear sunglasses all the time because my eyes are sensitive to the sun. One thing I've noticed is that when I wear them on top of my head people are more likely to look at my face. I appreciate that because I wear comfort shoes often for health reasons. I don't want people looking at my feet LOL

    • @JulesBeth
      @JulesBeth  Před 10 měsíci +2

      @@JulesBeth Interesting! I have blue eyes. I have 2 teen daughters, one has pale green eyes and 1 has dark Hazel eyes. The one with the pale green has sensitive eyes like what I do. But the sun doesn't bother the one with the dark Hazel at all.

    The most important aspects of this style are: high-quality, natural-fiber fabrics and materials, a personally-flattering, restricted color palette, and a definite, but classic-based style. Also important are well-cared for clothes (this means steaming and ironing, as well as cleanliness of clothing and accessories) and good grooming and hygiene. With these elements in place, looking chic (well-dressed) is about as nearly effortless as it gets.

Thanks so much for this incredible content! One request as a long torso, short legged gal would love if you could do a video series for us. Thanks again!

    I agree that nice looking shoes make a big impact in how I look, but really how I FEEL! I have begun wearing small, cross-body purses that zip. My hands are totally free, and there is a place for everything and no room for clutter. It is very liberating, and my neck and shoulder doesn't hurt from lugging around something heavy. My hubby and I travel for 3 weeks at a time (or more) with only a small carry on and backpack. My daughter has gotten me into having a couple of lightweight wool sweaters, which really come in handy when visiting her in Germany. I wear lots of black with turquoise, blue, purple, and either burgundy or pink for my seasonal pops of color, and I stick with durable, travel friendly fabrics that a quality feel to them. I have worked very hard on getting my clothes to actually FIT my petite, short torso body! Having things fit and coordinate has made me feel much more polished. Pulling outfits together (especially for travel) has become more effortless. Regardless of how "expensive" of any of my items (some are vintage from my mother, and others are from discount stores), proper fit and having one statement item (purse, scarf, jewelry, shoe or belt) makes my outfits appear more curated.

    Migraines and poor eyesight mean I always look great in my prescription sunglasses! 😎✨ lmao, seriously though I love all your videos Jules! So happy that I found your channel, I finally understand the reasoning behind some of my outfit/clothing choices to suit my short torso body. ❤️ edit: oh and expensive shoes, I have them too! thanks to my flat foot issues I’ve had to invest in Birkenstocks and New Balance to avoid excruciating pain. Doesn’t help me look too stylish though. Oh dear, I think I may be slowly falling apart 😂

    I have been buying gold vermeil jewelry. It looks expensive without the price. I have a bad metal allergy so the gold vermeil allows me to wear less expensive jewelry without worry of breaking out with a rash.
    I have also sworn off cheap “plastic” clothing.

    Keep it modest and classy, too. The image you show, with a micro mini and very high heels, is a No for this style.
