- I am delighted to be one of the first UK CZcamsrs to get a close look at the new for 2024 Triumph 400's - the new Scrambler 400X and Speed 400. These bikes are very competitively priced and primarily aimed at the asian market - I think they'll give Royal Enfield some serious competition....

I've had the Speed 400 for about 4 months now and it has been an absolute banger of a motorcycle in that time. I have done about 2600km on it through cities, highways and twisties and it has always put a smile on my face no matter what is thrown at it. I highly recommend it to anyone in the market for a ~40bhp machine. Nothing in the market comes close as a complete package.
Great feedback - thank you
Andy, is; absolutely cracking, such a great way to describe a weld 😂😂😂
Nice to see that the motorcycle companies are offering smaller packages to not only get the interest of newbies but still spark an interest in riders of all ages. Pricing plays into the game in today's world and nobody loses on picking any Indian built moto. Most of us live where we're born but in this case the Indian people are lucky to be the first to experience the offerings from Companies willing to trust them to make these great motorcycles. Three cheers to the Indian people. 👍👍🏍🏍🏍🏍🙋♂️
I’m looking at going from my litrebike to something like this now mostly I potter round town or do like 90 min rural runs at the speed limit.. a smaller bike that’s cheaper to run, insure etc etc sounds appealing.
400cc is still on the higher end for Indian bike markets. 100-150cc still is the go to segment for bikes and scooters in India.
The low taxes in India for locally made bikes gives them additional edge over the competition in India
As a welder by trade,I always like whenever someone notices and appreciates a nice weld!
Hope you had a Merry Christmas! What a pleasant surprise to see this video up first on my list. Always a pleasure to watch your content! Cheers!
Thank you very much!
We think they are a brilliant entry point for Triumph. We were lucky to see and sit on those bikes in August at the Triumph Visitor centre.
At 6ft 3, the Scrambler fitted me nicely, Carol liked the lower bike.
Yes they are cool aren't they.....
Really looking forward to this one, can't wait for them to arrive here in Portugal.
Great video and can't wait to have a look at you riding that bike
Me too!
Great content, thank you and all the best for the New Year.
Thank you and Happy New Year to you too!
Bought Speed as my second bike back in September here in India (for $3500)..
It feels more premium and more refined than my Kawasaki Vulcan S and I love the ride quality too.
Yes - bar end mirrors on Speed are standard.
Bajaj, that manufactures these also manufactures sub-500 CC KTMs and Bajaj has about 50% stake in KTM.
Great to have your feedback - any issues with the bike thus far??
@@TheMissendenFlyer I’ve been on city rides and highway rides in these 3 months and covered 1700 Kms. There’s no major issue that has bothered me except its inaccurate fuel gauge reading !
I like the bike’s linear power delivery, tractability, agility & throttle response. I’d have liked its foot pegs to be ‘neutral-set’ though.
@@sathishrao7926 Thanks for that!
when did you get your bike ?@@sathishrao7926
Is it buzzy? That was the biggest concern I had
Be nice to see someone come up with a spoked wheel version of the scrambler !! Happy new year Mr and Ms TMF !!!!
Happy new year!
I have very fond memories of my early single cylinder bikes, even though they needed a lot of spannering back in the day, they had character to accompany the oil leaks! These look good and would maybe be a good daily knock around fun bike. When you've given us your 1st ride thoughts, a trip to the dealer might be on the cards for me. Thank you TMF.
....yes and me!!!
My wife has ordered the Speed 400 in red, our local dealer Staffordshire Triumph have bike in showroom now and it will be available to test ride when they open in the new year , cannot wait to try it out !! Happy new year to you both
Nice one!
Great review Andy. It’s going to be interesting to see what these do to second hand values on similar bikes like the Fantic Caballero 500 🤔
Nice video & a couple of interesting little bikes. Could be very cheap & cheerful fun. Will look forward to your test ride.
Me too!
Very interested to see your review when you do get to ride these.
Being of limited height myself the speed 400 looks to tick a lot of the boxes for me.
Had an Indian built KTM for about 3 years and it was a great little bike.
Good to see Carol in the video, helps to visuals the height difference.
Great video as always
Great quick look and I’ve got to say Triumph have hit the market with the speed
I think it’s aimed at the Enfield and dare I say BSA Gold Star spot. It will do well as it looks brilliant
Look forward to you riding one.
Happy new year 🥳
And to you David!
These are great looking bikes Andy. I would be very keen on owning the Scrambler as an every day run around. Good quality, really looks the part super colour & pocket friendly price, whats not to like! Look forward to your ride review 🙂
Very interesting first look Mr Flyer. I too have been waiting to see these new Triumphs, and think it may well of been worth it. I will be looking at both options, but with even shorter legs than your good self, think the Speed may be my best option. Still 'big' enough for the odd week or so away too.
Hi andy just noticed you have 256 k subs your channel is growing very nicely, your content is a delight to watch forever ❤❤
Glad you thnik that - thanks for watching!
Great to see your back online again and may 2024 bring you everything you wish for
I haven’t been away….not even for a day!!
@@TheMissendenFlyer sorry wrong person but hope 2024 brings you and Mrs Flyer everything you wish for 😎👍🏻🎅🏻🎄
@@bizzie1956 No worries - same to you!
Great little bikes for us shorties the speed 400 , looking at accessories you can only get one side pannier which is a bit weird , I’ve got to have somewhere secure for my helmet , don’t like top boxes , hope they’ll do a decent tank bag as well . About 8 litres . Great vlog Andy 👍👍
Cheers Tony!
Great looking bikes.they both look bigger than..400.s well biult. And for the price. It's amazing. I can see these selling out.very quickly. It's a shame they not built here . But they are made well and look good .look forward to your video on these 2.. and hope you and your family had a great Christmas .and have happy Newyear
Doesn't matter too much to me where it's made as long as the quality is there....and Triumph is a British company regardless....but I get that it's a big deal for some. If Norton are anything to go by I'd rather have a Thaiumph!!
Being just shy of 5ft7 the Speed 400 looks like a good fit for me, they both look great.
I love these smaller capacity bikes that are becoming very popular but the one thing I notice is how heavy some of them are.
You would think being smaller the manufacturers would want to keep them as light as possible.
EURO 5 and all that new tech weighs
Thank you! I think I asked you about the 400 and you delivered. Granted, you couldn't take them out for a ride, but that's certainly not your fault.
I was happy when I saw the thumbnail and I'm happy now. I certainly look forward to when you can take them out for a ride (specially the 400).
Cheers! :)
Yes I'm looking forward to riding these too!
Ooooooo thought you were going to ride them. I love these new bikes. Perfect market for them around the world. India customers reported handlebars quite buzzy above 70mph, engine runs quite hot and engine light has come for many users no remedy found yet. Tks 4 that loved it.
All the bike 95% of people would ever need, time will tell on the build quality, if I hadn't already brought my trident earlier this year I would have definitely brought the speed 400.
Exactly! Most people don't really need a 1200+cc bike It's all to impress others.....
I am from india.i took delivery of triumph speed 400 one month ago.i paid 2,600 British pounds for it including taxes, insurance and registration fees in india.i took this bike to Ladakh for adventure riding which 3,600 kms away from my home.i took this bike to world's highest motorable road named umlingla pass near china border which is located at the height of 19,000 feets above the sea level where temperature could go below minus 10 degree.this bike performed well in such a hostile environment.then I did servicing of this bike during my ladakh trip.i paid only 10 British pounds for first service .so in India this bike is pocket friendly.it can perform extreme cold and hot whether.cause there isn't place which can offer you off-road adventure more than ladakh.so I hope this bike will perform well Europe.
Wow at £2,600 that is a bargain - tempted to come to India to buy one and then ride it back to Blighty and import it!
That's a good review Brother. There's not going to be many here in the UK/EU doing that on this machine. Most will complain its too small a capacity again, just like the Enfield 350/410. But at least R.E. are bringing out the new liquid cooled 450 Himalayan soon. 👍💯🇬🇧
@@TheMissendenFlyer£2250 for the road model in India. Its got to be Brexit to blame for these high import costs. 👍💯🇬🇧🤔
@@InvictaView yes.triumph speed 400 and scrambler 400x could cost 2600 pounds and 2960 pounds as on road price in India.also new Harley Davidson x440cc bike could cost you 3200 pounds in India.new Aprilia RS 457 cc bike could cost you 4700 pounds as on road price in india.himalayan 450 hanle black the top end variant could cost you 3560 pounds as on road price in India.cause all of these bikes are manufactured in India.
If I go for having a second bike again the Speed 400 looks like a winner. I imagine it would be easy to get into the habit of using the smaller bike for most trips. There's a report below that the fuel guage isn't very accurate, that's a shame as my T100 is very reliable. Looking forward to a test ride when they are available. Good to know that the speed fits a smaller rider like Carol.
Very nice bikes for 5k. The 350-400cc segment seems to becoming very popular now. At 40 bhp these looking like perfect round town and weekend bimble bikes.
What's wrong with bumbling around? @@Tondaloona03
To be honest they are good enough for anything you want to use them for.
Fantastic little bikes as I'm nearly 70 and have been blasting about since I was 10 years old these are the kind of bikes that fingers crossed will keep me going into my 80s I would put the scrambler front mudguard on the speed twin and I'm sorted....
Sounds good to me!
Can’t wait to see you drive it
A Perfect post Christmas video thank you Andy - surely I don’t need another bike in the shed 🫣🤔?! Maybe I do!
I'm always looking!
Great looking bikes I sat on them both at Motorcycle Live. Agree with your first thoughts. I am sure Enfield will upgrade their 350's with the new 452 engine from the Himalayan. That will put the cat amongst the pigeons. I think that 20 BHP just is not enough for riding in UK. I have a funduro 650 thumper and really enjoy riding that.
First impressions they look great 💯👍
I totally will buy a scrambler end of next year. Good small all arounder, especially for winter time riding when I don’t want to ride other bikes.
Love the look of these two bikes Andy 👍 definitely on for a winner with these sales in 2024.
Hello Andy, definitely a teaser review as I’d love to hear them running. However, we should all be grateful that Triumph provides these bikes so you give us all a first look and quick review of the bike and specs. I think Mrs. Flyer will like the sport version.
Yes I can’t wait to have a ride of one….
WOW ! What an awesome price, Mrs. L is taking her test in the spring, the Street would be perfect for her. Great vid…
Good to see some exciting new smaller capacity bikes.
Also Triumph being honest about where their bikes are actually manufactured .
They have been guilty of misleading people into thinking they manufactured bikes in the uk.
Fantastic score to get hold of these bikes so early. They look awesome and I'd have one over the Royal Enfields any day if the budget can stretch. Great video as always.
Yes I think these will fly off the shelves…
Yes, my interest in the Royal Enfield may be waining once I see the Triumph in the flesh.
The Royal Enfield 350s really aren't that much cheaper, the new Bullet is £4700 against £4999 of the Triumph. The only cheaper Enfields are the Classic, Meteor and Hunter and that is down to MotoGB selling of their stocks, when they have gone I'm sure RE will raise the price. The Classic used to be about £4500 otr before MotoGB lost distribution rights@@TheMissendenFlyer
Want a small light bike as relief around the lanes from my GS. Was waiting for the new Himalayan…..but no not so sure.
@@AliasMrHackenbackerI think its what you get for your money though. Used R.E. prices of all models have the massive advantage over this new kid on the block. Meteor prices have collaped since the new Classic 350 and new Bullet were launched. People should wait a while, but some cant, and must have it now. 😮
Oooh Andy I do like the looks of these two a really good move by Triumph without doubt and they are going to steal a good amount of market share with these two offerings looking forward to seeing you testing these fab .👌👍
Yes agreed all round....
That scrambler in the green is gorgeous! I'm sure both of these will fly off the shelves!
I think they will too....big orders already in by all accounts....
They do look good, hope the fit and finish of the ones for sale matches the preproduction examples they're having to wheel round
Well done getting hold of these pre-production bikes Andy! These look great... Think Triumph has pulled it off again 👍
I think so too!
Just been catching up with the Alaska/Canada tour, as I missed it first time around, up to episode six now. Very good, shame about all the road works but a lovely tour film. Always wanted to live in Canada but life got in the way and now I`m to old. They want people 35 or under, unless your loaded of course. Christmas is done and I'm quite glad about that, a bit bar humbug I must admit. So, I will wish you both a HAPPY NEW YEAR. Guess it will be the next instalment of Japan tomorrow, good-oh.
Yep - 0715 - don't be late!
great quick look at what is to come in January 😄
Great to see them side by side, thanks for the review. I would think the Scrambler with decent off road tyres will be more than capable of green lane and Byway work. It's refreshing to see that Triumph have actually increased the swinging arm, added extra travel and a 19'' front wheel to the X. I've a demo booked end of January with a view to buying. Looking forward to your road test Andy.
Me too! Hope the road test goes well...
Looking forward to you getting a go on one.
Me too....
Hi Andy, two cracking little bikes from Triumph, going forward it will be interesting to see the comparisons being made between the new 450 Himalayan and the 400X, I think they will have a very similar price points also. Thank you.
Give me the Triumph (on looks alone) any day!
Nice one Andy, good to have them back to back. I really liked them at the NEC, especially the Scrambler. Hopefully you'll be able to do the same when you get to ride them.
I hope so!
Great looking bikes, can't wait to see ride review
You and me both!
Love these but as a second bike, purely for B roads, would I need the extra power over the hunter? Is it better to thrash an enfield in 60 zones, knowing that speeding is almost impossible, or riding a triumph almost as fast as my 600 and so defeating the point of getting a second bike?
Yep liking them! Lets hope they ride as good as they look
I'd be surprised (and bitterly dissappointed) if they don't!
I absolutely cannot wait to get my hands on the 400x
Two great bikes from Triumph and to keep the quality at that price point is fantastic.
Couldn't agree more!
Great looking bikes Andy triumph quality is sublime I have a tiger 900 rally pro but thinking of upgrading to a tiger 1200 rally pro 😀
An interesting first look , be good to hear your ride review
Yes I’m looking forward to that myself!
I would want the tank logo from the Speed 400 on the Scrambler. Both bikes look like a hoot to ride.
That's a beautiful pair of thumpers!
Nice, I’d like a red one.
Had a sit on one at the bike show and agree, comfortable and a lovely finish, would still go for the new Himalayan though as it is a great bike to go camping with lots of luggage
Fair enough - I for one would have the Triumph over the Himi in an instant, I think it looks so much better.....
Unfortunately it's Triumph style over substance.
I would prefer to choose Bike made by a manufacturer RE, than a bike badge engineered for a supposed bike manufacturer.
Triumph are certainly more than a "supposed" bike manufacturer!! I love Royal Enfields for their great value (I own one!) but all things being equal cost wise and given the choice between the two marques I find a Triumph superior in every way!
Nice bikes, did a tour of the Triumph factory a couple of weeks ago and all the press bikes were ready to go out. Have already pre sold a lot of them without any test rides or European reviews. Will sell really well I think 👍 Hope the shoulder is healing. Lets hope 2024 is a good one for us all 🏍👍
I'm surprised to hear that as Triumph promised me an early loan (but haven't given me a date yet!)
They look very nice and never having considered a smaller bike or a Triumph this would make a great 3rd bike to go with my BMW 1250RS and F750GS
As a 6ft 2in septuagenarian the 400x looks appealing , enough everyday power to potter around on , very nice looking bikes .
I’ve been doing the USA Emissions on these for the last two months cracking first big bike and commuter 👌👌
This is one of my favorite good looking motorcycles.
Good info will go for Triump 400 speed after ur review 👍👍
Great 👍
A great looking pair of machines 👍 I think Triumph have missed a trick here not having any available to road test or even hear running in the UK ? when they are supposed to be available in a few weeks to order. Lots of reports on Indian owners FB pages of faults etc to look out for but it’s a different world out there and bikes get some major abuse. I think I will have to wait a few more months to see how sales go etc before seriously looking to buy one for myself but as for the styling they have got it spot on 👍
I think they will fly off the shelves here.....
As far as I know you did a first getting the bikes like that from Triumph. Congratulations
I think I did too…
@@TheMissendenFlyerWere you not at Excel recently? Lots here seem to be testing and ordering them now. I've never heard such enthusiasm for a new sub 400 machine.
I think badge snobbery is going to sell this more than anything else. I mean, if I wanted to budget 5k, I'd still see plenty of change on the new R.E. 350 Bullet, Classic Reborn, Hunter, Scram ect, even more so as there is a buoyant trade in used machines already, saving even more. People should forget the badge snobbery and wait for 6-12 months, see how it fares first. 👍💯🇬🇧🤔
They look nice. Isn’t the new Himmy the direct competitor being a 452?
Looking forward to seeing your thoughts on that too 👍🏻
Thanks for the review.
s I guess so - I'd rather have one of these personally (onlooks alone)
Looking like the price is going to be a good bit lower on these than the new himalayan
I was interested in the Scrambler. However, the new Himmy is the way to go for me. More off road oriented. Looks? I like both and it could have gone either way, but the New Himmy in black and gold does it for me. As for RE quaking? Nah, I don't think so.
...we shall see!
@@TheMissendenFlyer Expect to see the Sherpa engine in a range of new models. The new Scram will probably be first off the blocks in the next year or so, followed by updated HNTR and Meteors. I really don't think RE has anything to worry about here. The Triumphs are nice little machines and obviously good competition (and I was seriously considering replacing my Scram with the Scrambler version), but RE isn't going anywhere here as they have clearly thought ahead with the introduction of the 450 engine.
Wonderful looking bikes at a great price. Bound to get some knockers because they are a Triumph.🤣😊
They look promising, we miss out on so much here in the States, so many more models to choose from in Europe, Japan, and elsewhere.
They are going to fly out of the showrooms in my opinion. Cool enough for A2 "Young Bucks"(and "Buckettes") starting out and a lovely option for a second summer bike for commuting and weekend posing for us "Codgers."
Agreed - going to be a major success for Triumph these.....
@@TheMissendenFlyer I hope so to but there has been some resistance to singles the Yamaha SR400 came and went without selling many and the Honda XBR 500 and Yamaha SRX600 sold well for a year then were dropped a couple of years later. The Royal Enfield 350’s and the Himalayan 411 sell well on price the HNTR at £3600 ish is very good value for money but with the new triumph 400 the 20 hp is looking a bit low especially with the speed restriction this is doubly so with the top of the range classic and meteor’s which aren’t that much cheaper than the triumph.
We shall see!
I think these are going to be an absolute winner for Triumph and they definitely look a step up from the Royal Enfields both in fit and finish and specs. This is a good thing because competition improves the whole for all of us so RE fans shouldn't get defensive about their brand but just enjoy the fact that it means we all get improved bikes. These are a great entry point into the Triumph brand but it is a shame they couldn't make the scrambler just a little bit more accessible because I doubt many are ever going to be used off-road so there really isn't a need for them to be quite this tall.
Yes I agree - very tall machine for a 400!
I don't think that there will be any need to defend Royal Enfield against Bajaj.
RE certainly don't have to worry about a tiny company like Triumph affecting their sales either.
Certainly in this country (the UK) I suspect there will be a dent in sales...maybe the Indian market is too big for material impact.....We shall see!
Shares of Bajaj jumped 10% after these got positive reviews.
I bought my 2020 KTM 390 based on your road test of it and I am eagerly waiting the road test of this bike !
Great 👍
One of these could be my beginner bike. They look amazing. I like the retro look and beautiful color of the scrambler.
I hope they are reliable.
Great looking bikes. I hope Triumph can supply enough to meet demand. I bought a new street triple rs in April and was very lucky to get a cancelled order. When I took it for it's first service in June, the dealer said mine was the last cosmic yellow one they'd supplied and all of the 2023 allocation was sold. He was getting 10 people a week wanting to buy but there were no bikes available!
Wow - not good that is it - nothing worse than having to wait months on end for a new bike, by the time it comes something else has supersceded it!!
Love the look of these. At last some real alternatives to the dominant Royal Enfields that tick all the boxes in terms of power, build quality and price. Small capacity bikes are making a very welcome comeback and long may it last, they are just so much easier to live with.
I couldn't agree more!
I really like triumphs and had a couple over the years and all have been reliable and well built but saw these at the nec bike show they look good built down to a budget but even though a minor detail had parts bin leavers from different bikes 😅 minor detail
Nice overview.. the Scram definitely looks a better fit. Pete
I had a honda cb-1 grey import 400/4 in the 90s , great fun and perfect size. We need more 400 smaller bikes. With centre stands!
Totally agree
I can quite see that when I'm too old to ride a big bike, i might go for something like these. They look great.
Too old? Maybe you mean too decrepit.
That’s a good looking pair. 🍻
Can't wait to pick one up second hand and 3-5 years time and go ripping through some trails.
I bet they hold on to second hand values well too...
Triumph Scrambler or anything from Royal Enfield… Looks, quality, reliability; Triumph have knocked it out the park with this. Gonna love seeing them around! (i’d still take the 1200 😜).
I've always loved single cylinder motorcycles, so am happy to see Triumph making contemporary 'classic' versions of them now. I love the classic styling - good job Triumph! Andy, question for you: What brand of riding jeans are you wearing? My riding jeans aren't very fitted (Klim), but yours seem to be, so I may have to give those a try. Will be looking forward to your ride report once you get a chance to ride the production versions. Thanks for another great video! 🙂
Mine are from PMJ ("Deux") - check out the link to Bikerheadz in the description below for details....
Thanks! @@TheMissendenFlyer
Hi Andy from perth western australia going to be interesting to see how they compare to the new himalayan both being built in India
Can't ignore the price on these. Very good
Love the scrambler.
Hope you had a nice Christmas! :)
You too!
Those are nice !! Cheers from a fellow shorty.
Yes they are!
I had a look at the accessories on Triumph UK and there are no heated grips yet. In the Triumph video the presenter mentioned that the display has support for showing when they are on.
Interesting! I'd defo want some of those in this country (I thought I saw them as oprional extras in the configurator??)
I like the look of both bikes and they are well priced . The scrambler though is a bit of a misnomer as the bike has practically no off road bits apart from a headlight grill and hand guards. I will be interested in seeing what they are like to ride on UK roads .
Yes it's purely a styling exercise for sure - looks good though!
They look good, I’d go for the scrambler. Interesting that they’re a lot cheaper in India! Look forward to hearing what you think about them when they give you the keys 😂
I'd love to see a Bajaj factory tour video of the Triumph 400s being made.
That would be cool!
I’ve been riding bikes since I was 6 years old and whilst we have some great super bikes, adventure bikes and naked’s etc the 600 downwards bikes have never looked so sad. There are a couple of half decent attempts with the likes of the Ktm390 and the kwaka 400 but for those of us that started on fs1e’s and rd50’s and progressed with rgv’s rd350ypvs’s, and then 400cc grey imports like nc30’s. Looking at those triumphs and everything else that is available to entice the next generations of bikers I truly weep for future generations. I feel so so so lucky to have ridden bikes in the greatest ERA to have ever been for motorcycling. Youngsters now will never now the absolute explosion happiness from racing your mates on 2stroke race reps, as well the skills you had to learn to keep them running. Modern bikers have missed out…..😢
Nice looking machines, they'd make great city bikes with enough ponies for a weekend ride too. I think they will hit a sweet spot in the market.
I think so too!
A bike I’m quite interested in
I’m thinking of replacing my Honda grom which I use for my work commute with one of these budget triumphs (probably the scrambler because it’s just a bit more interesting)
Hopefully triumph will get them on demo soon
SHould be in a few days time!
The Speed 400 certainly suits Mrs Flyer
