Went out surf fishing with a new rod that Santiam Fishing Rods gave me. This rod will be raffled out at the tournament this Saturday. Link to the tournament page below:

After a short trip to the beach and catching a few redtail surf perch, I'd have to say this rod worked really well.

Nice looking rod.
I mainly use 10' St. Croix as my main surf rod and it has a really long butt end (26" from the center of the reel seat), I cast it almost at a 45 degree angle across my body so I don't jab myself in the stomach with the butt cap. If I knew anything about modifying rods I would saw about 5" off of it.

Ugh, so Ive been gearing up to surf fish the coast this fall, got my equipment tho haven't surf fished yet. I have the time to do the tournament and would love to use that as an excuse to get out and finally get fishing, or would that be stupid as I'm a newbie...?

I think you're awesome I don't want any special privileges but please tell me the best beach to catch perch I'm not in the wheelchair but I have neuropathy encanto more than fifty yards at a time sunset Beach is my best bet but I hope they're there

I just cast out normally, not trying to wing it out with all my strength. Just a normal toss. many times, they are pretty close to shore actually.
