    How did Rod Stewart get so famous and Al, well, not so much. Al Stewart is a GREAT songwriter. I love his work.

      Al makes much better music than Rod. I don't like Rod Stewart at all, his voice irritates me a lot and I find boring most of his music.

      It's as simple as that: puff is part of the trade. Al, on the other hand, has always been a humble and rather unconspicuous man while being a fantastic songwriter and singer. Modesty is a virtue but it won't get you far - at least not as far as others who blow their own trumpet loud.

    it's odd, years ago ( february 22nd 1973) I saw him at fairfield halls croydon. I knew him quite well, and I was sitting in row 2, and he said, I can only see to the 2nd row, and theres my friend, which was nice. then 3 years later this song appears mentioning half familiar faces in the 2nd row.....

      I wondered if he could ever play this song live if the lyrics are taken literally, wouldn't be very polite - especially in your case! I can only hope the lines are a metaphor for a broader life perspective. I don't think AL Stewart is rude at all but I think he did get a burn out earlier on so maybe this song can be taken literally

    Adam Yurman on lead guitar... Adam replaced Mark Goldenberg about this time period...
    Al has been lucky to surround himself with some amazing guitarists... Jimmy Page, Tim Renwick, Mark Goldenberg, Adam Yurman, Peter White, Laurence Juber, and currently Dave Nachmanoff...

    • @javierrodriguez-fonseca4717
      @javierrodriguez-fonseca4717 Před 2 lety +7

      But as far as I know, in "One stage before" the amazing guitar solo (both in studio and in this live version) is/was played by Tim Renwick, at least in the original studio version... I simply love this solo, and the song as a whole, from the best school of progressive rock (including the keyboards notes)!! And the lyrics are great also, a nice reference of playing a song in previous concerts mixed with a fictional deja vu experience in a past life... strange and magic at the same time!

      I'm not ptetty sure who's the lead guitarist in this concert, but in the "Year of the cat" album where the original studio version of this sing comes from, the closing great guitar solo is by Tim Renwick.

    Among the non single songs of Al Stewart, this is my favorite and is among my favorites in all. In general, I do prefer the original studio version (from "Year of the cat album), however, the great guitar solo by Tim Renwick is as goof as the studio one... kind of progressive one! / Entre los temad de Al Stewart q no fueron lanzados como disco sencillo, ésta pieza es mi favorita y está entre mis favoritas en total. En general, me gusta más la versión de estudio, del álbum "Year of the cat", sin embargo, el sólo de guitarra de Tim Renwick ed tan bueno como en la original de estudio... tipo progresivo!
