Fascinating animal. It strongly reminds me of a Paleocene mammal, one of the first major carnivores after the dinosaur extinction. Pre-feline and pre-canine. Considering, until very recently, it had to deal with gorilla-sized lemurs and gargantuan flightless Elephant birds, as well as the constant threat of being grabbed from a tree and eaten by Madagascar's former apex predator, the very large and deadly Madagascar crowned eagle (to this very day, wild lemurs on the island STILL display avoidance behavior for this species even though it became extinct over 500 years ago!) no wonder the fossa is so fierce! By the way, that eagle was so feared by man it became the basis for the mythical Roc. Imagine if it was still alive today!

It’s like a parallel evolution of a feline. It walks, uses its paws to clean themselves ,and has full control of their tail and semi retractable claws, like a cheetah. Even if they’re not related it’s like evolution will create common traits. When a niche is open .
I think although its posture and snout are similar to a Tasmanian tiger which is a marsupial but looks like a dog. Also a parallel species. It makes you wonder how other world might evolve. Or if dinosaurs were still around whether mammals would ever have evolved. 🤫
