  • One full session at Utah Motorsports Campus, West Track on the KTM RC3C (RC 390). Raw and unedited, no music, just natural sound and my random thoughts. I was a bit blown away by the number of you who have asked for these. If you'd like to see more, let me know in the comments.

    Dave, my heart was ecstatic right from the word go! I mean, I can see places where you felt the need for a bit more power, especially on exits, but boy, grazing pegs, knees, just keeping that thing on the string, something to the RC series that's just lovely. Oh that traffic, bummer! Big bikes turn slow, fast bikes carry speed, perfect!

    Superb ride Dave. So much fun watching you out ride guys with more power but less skill. That little RC390 is a lovely bike. But then KTMs are nicely built and ride well. I had a Duke 125 as my learner, and loved every minute on it, in those heady early days on a bike.

    I love ur riding, man, and it keeps pushing me into my decision to buy a RC390 '23 model blind.. :D
    I made a longer break from motorcycles now and rode some bigger bikes before, actually never supersports until now.
    But to get into it (again) and mastering my own riding with such a sick sport tool right out of factory seems really appealing ( i know ur is maximum track build).
    I think there isn't much better for twisty roads or some track trainings if you really want to master the skills, especially for that price our dealer puts out.
    I get one with akra, quickshifter and some powerparts for 6k€.
    The little extra motivation for me is, that if you get fast with that thing, you really can "annoy" some big bikes by just keeping up and eat them alive while cornering.
    Thank you for you inspiration, i think i soon will build my own orange Moto3-Street legal RC.
    Going to start some diet now and lose some weight and frame..as a former bodybuilding nerd i have to cut something to fit that riding style better! ;D
    Greetings from Germany, ride safe!

    A fine testimonial to " lighter bikes corner faster". Nice, except for all the traffic. Be nice to have a few bikes of same power to race with that you trust in close quarters. Still a great day at the track. More please. :-).

    Love the series! I picked up a $500 RC390 and turned it into a dedicated trackbike. Day one I pulled the engine and flatted the head with sandpaper and a glass mirror and put in a thinner headgasket, PowerTronic ECU and quickshifter, YZFR1 rear shock with Racetech spring, Racetech fork springs and 7.5w oil, and full Tyga bodywork. Still have the stock exhaust but even at 100kg in full gear the bike is a blast. Granted i'm in Japan and the tracks are a little smaller/slower...but floating the front wheel in 2nd on a 390 is a blast! The quickshifter really adds to the fun and the sound.
    Next im getting the Tyga top clamp and bars, tyga rearsets, and a Tyga exhaust.

    • @CanyonChasers
      @CanyonChasers  Před 2 lety

      $500?!?! Well done! We just ordered an exhaust and an ECU, rearsets and a quickshifter. Even on our big, fast track, the bike is just so much fun to ride!

  • @steelcityspeedshopj.r6942

    It may be a slow bike. But it is a fun little thing to whip around! If I could ever find one for a steal of a deal I’d buy one for shits and giggles

  • @beanwithbaconmegarocket

    I think I used to hit 90+ on my R3 on that front straight. Of course, I also once low sided in the last corner bc I was a total noob and added lean angle and throttle because i was trying too hard.

    Good stuff, Dave. Welcome to little bike life! FWIW, AiM released an ECU profile for the 390 that will capture some useful measurements if you want to work on your riding with data. I think it captures throttle position, RPM, and gear position if I recall correctly. I haven't looked into it in detail since I sold my 390 but if you're interested in development that way, I'd suggest taking a look.

I saw a few things I can talk to you offline about if you want. Both good stuff and reminders... Looks like the bike is working pretty good. It's hard to get through corners on the RC390 when bikes are in the way on the apex, I can relate... Woo hoo! I'll try to put a camera on for Attesa or Inde next time I go...

      @CanyonChasers  Před 2 lety +1

      It depends on the speed and the corner. In a lot of cases I build quite a bit of braking, fairly quckly, then slowly ease it off to control the forks compression/rebound and to help steer the bike.

    You can lower the front by 20mm and raise the rear by 20mm, your RC will carry lot of speed in the corners and you will be able brake deeper.
    Once you add an ECU with other hardware for the engine, then you can change the front sprocket from 15T to 16T.

      Just before tipping into the corner, the guy would swoop out to the outside of the corner. If we want to enter from the outside of the corner (which we do) we should ride to that point in a predictable way. Not swoop or steer to a point last second.

    • @russellstokke6888
      @russellstokke6888 Před 2 lety +1

      @@CanyonChasers You don’t need one! :) Maybe you already know this and it’s just a matter of preference? Anyway as long as you time the shift with rolling off and unloading the transmission, the gears will move. You can practice by putting a light load into the shift lever, and then rolling off. The transmission load will briefly go away and bam, you’ve shifted. It’s fast and smooth. I never use my clutch at the track for up-shifts. Still use it for downshifts, of course. A quick shifter will certainly be better, though. Not trash talking, BTW. Genuinely curious. Thanks for all your videos!
