These old fan animation series have recently made a resurgence like smbz, Final fantasy Sonic, Nazo Unleashed with Wrath of Nazo and Sonic RPG I remember them from the late 2000s all and Iâm glad they all came back

@@LTDLetsPlays Seel was legit my favorite Sonic villain as a kid, looking back he was a pretty one dimensional DBZ villain not unlike most fan Villains but I still adore what he brought to the table.

the thing that really hits for me is the Sonic Stop Motion Series from Piplupfan77
I remember watching first few episodes when I was really young, and growing really attached to the characters and writing that took place in the series. And after several years, coming back to watch the final episode really put me in my feels
As much as I hold Nazo Unleashed and Sonic Shorts to a very high pedestal, nothing will ever capture the feeling of the Sonic Stop-Motion Series
i havent watched that shit since i was literally in elementary school, over a decade ago, but from what i remember, i really enjoyed that stop motion series because of its sheer absurdity. i vaguely remember wario turning into some godzilla-like creature, or something similar? lmfao that shit was just wild, i gotta go rewatch it all now

Thanks so much for this retrospective. As a creator in the Stop Motion space, it was really refreshing to see it represented here alongside all these pillars of community fan projects. I feel like we're an often overlooked part of the fandom despite enduring and persisting for many years. Fantastic video! One day I hope a fan work can come along and surpass the incredibly high bar set by Tanic the Hedgehog.
I agree, unfortunately the sonic stop motion community doesnât get the love it deserves, ESPECIALLY when considering how difficult stop motion is as a whole. What you and Piplupfan77 have done is truly incredible. I canât wait to see more and thank you so much for the comment!
I really gotta thank piplupfan77 and Sonic Paradox for introducing the rest of the Sonic cast to me bc i didnât get to play the adventure games or heroes when I was little so seeing them in their videos was such a fun experience

I miss the golden age. Nazo Unleashed, SMBZ, (Videos I watched of the New grounds upload) That Jason episode of the Sonic Shadow and Silver show has me dying every time I watch it lol Sonic shorts, Stop motion adventures. Ugh. I wish we could go back :) truly a time.
As a young lad, I searched for anything Sonic related back then. Be it via Newgrounds or CZcams, I remember most of the stuff in this video.
I grew up with a Wii, and played Secret Rings, Black Knight, Zero Gravity (you get the idea) and remember fondly those days on newgrounds even with our super slow internet back then. Good memories.

God damn the nostalgia with this video is immense, I completely forgot about the sonic shadow and silver show but the second you brought it up, it clicked in my head along with many others, Iâm surprised you didnât cover the sonic rpg series as itâs easily some of the best fan made sonic things ever and was recently finished around a year ago, you ainât even gotta make a video on it but I recommend you at least check it out if you can, thereâs 10 whole parts.
I really hope this video gets a lot of traction, it's super well done.

"This is some Code Lyoko shxt" is honestly the most shocking quote in Sonic Stop Motion Adventures because Code Lyoko referenced in a Sonic Fan Video is unprecedented.
I'm literally a sprite animator because of all these guys you covered. It's insane how FANMADE Sonic content which is far from being canon can inspire so many people in so many ways!
No one ever mentions "Sonic's quest for power"(it also predates SMBZ) and it's a shame because it's one of the most earliest sprite animation and everything about it is just crazy awesome.
I'm so grateful that I was born in December of 2004, cause I was able to live through the two most recent eras of sonic and I'm able to have nostalgia from both 2000 and 2010's fan content and still be young enough to enjoy most recent content like the movies or comics. I love this franchise and (most of) it's community cause of how passionate they are.

I was July 2005 in the Bahamas, I didn't have a next gen console, and I got a 360 in 2012, and I played games online all the time.
My childhood was Sonic 3, SA2, Gens, Unleashed, SMBZ, Nazo, Sonic Shorts all that jazz. and I wasn't old enough to care about the newest games at the time like LW or Boom until Forces.

FACTS I was born at August of 2004 I get to experience the glow ups of fandoms and Sonic was one of my favorite characters
I was born in 07 but I grew up with all the stuff from this era and Iâm so glad about that
personally im an ask the sonic heroes advocate and i remember it like yesterday when i watched episode 1. team 182 have been and will be in my heart, tad upset to see that they werent here but theres so much to cover that i understand why they may not have been here.

god this was such a fun watch, incredible work on this nick, really. i loved the vast majority of these as a kid who spent HOURS absorbing sonic content on my family's pc in the late 2000s/early 2010s, so to revisit these as a college student through this video was SUCH a nice nostalgia trip. thank you

A lot of the heavy hitters here were to be expected, but there were some deep cuts I'd forgotten about but rediscovered fond memories for all the same. (Forgot all about the scene creator and Sonic Q&A). A lot of these animations inspired me to make my own once upon a time.

Demetrius98 (?) was the sonic sprite creator I remember most. There was another one whose name was Hannah and was from Australia. She primarily used Tiara Boobowski as a stand in, but I don't remember the channel name.
I was definitely into sonicsong182. I was always frustrated that a certain character I liked didn't get used in whatever was the newer game, so their content was great for letting me enjoy the characters more.
Nazo and SMBZ will always be king though. Easily the best pieces of sonic media out there on sheer impact alone.
I'm surprised there was no mention of the tails doll flash games, since it was a prominent character in the Sonic Paradox project and you mentioned Sonic.exe.
as a person who grew up in the era where fan content was mocked, this video meant a lot to me. i almost teared up at the end with a genuinely heartfelt montage of amvs and fanart i grew up on as a kid. seeing artists online make these beautiful reinditions of sonic in dramatic ways i couldn't ever envision (especially with myly14! i grew up with their works along with drawloverlala!), the editing and precision of stormreddeserts amvs, it inspired me a lot to become the artist i am today. thank you so much for this :)

Looking at this incredibly well done video it really shows how much this whole community has done, and makes me even more happy to be apart of it! Oh hey, I was a part of that channel for some time. You're right on the assumption that it's definitely more of a family-oriented thing than most fan content, for sure. Ask the Sonic Heores actually started off as a side-series for SonicSong182 but (as the view counts suggest) evolved into its flagship series over time. For me, since I played Big the Cat, it was just kind of a fun time to come up with silly lines since Big's nature allowed me to make all my answers comedic to some degree. It's too bad you didn't dig a little deeper because their content also covers areas like plush adventures (which was the main thing before AtSH took off), musicals, and some other stuff as well.
Also the OG source for the Sonic, Shadow, and Silver shorts mentioned earlier is coodoo17, if nobody else mentioned that already. Was one of the first pieces of fan content I saw while getting into Sonic in the late 2000s.

Holy crap, I actually know every single one of these things, maybe with the exception for AMVs shown and Kalisamiâs and Myly14 amazing art. It is an amazing trip though memory lane. I feel like Shadow759 was the one that gave me the most inspiration. In fact, I think it was him that got me inspired to do the skits and fandubs that I do in my channel. Hope I can branch off into more ambitious projects in the future but for now, I got still room to grow.

I remember so many Things from this! However although it may only be from 2017-18 Era, Right here on CZcams was a channel Called S Sonic. It was mostly Based on using the live chat system in which you could Roleplay. It was a fairly small community, But it still had a Charm in my heart coming after school to get on my iPad to Meet all of my friends online.

Honestly this fan base has its moments that we all would like to forget, but itâs so easy to overlook the best side of the fan base bruh, like you hear the term âsonic ocâ and think of things like coldsteel or something but thereâs actually so many great ones out there, Fr like Nazo is so effing good I low key wish he was canon, Aeon is obscure but his story, design, and powers are really good and well thought out plus with Sega seemingly going the multiple sonic dimensions route Aeon would actually make sense a a villain, Seelkadoom has a stupid sounding name but his personality and creation is solid, personally I would like to see some fan games featuring those characters as core villains (which the each original creatorâs permission of course)
That's a nice video! Made me remember so much cool stuff. Really makes you appreciate this fanbase even more. I also want to throw in some nostalgic fan content in case there's ever a part 2. Some of it isn't that old but still invokes a feeling of nostalgia. Sonic Oddshow, Sonic Glitched, Sonic VS Knuckles (animation), Sonic's Halloween Costume, Shadow the Werehog, Sonic the Hedgehog likes waffles (animation), Christmas with Sonic series and Sonic Before/After the Sequel.
Want to thank you for this video. It's really made me realize after all these years how incredibly lucky I was to enjoy all these great works. And some others I haven't even seen yet.
Y'know what nostalgic Sonic series I miss the most? Sonic with a Sword.
For those unaware, the short answer is it's exactly what it says on the tin: a Sonic flash animation series in which he has a sword now. (note that this came out _long before_ Black Knight) Long answer: it's a Sonic series that depicts a future in which Eggman won, all of Sonic's friends are dead, and he trains in the way of the sword under the tutelage of new friend and ally Sparkster. (who's just in this world, it's never explained but he's got a grudge against Eggman too)
Also, Samus and Earthworm Jim show up later on in the series and Jim flirts with Samus constantly. It's a bit silly, in retrospect.

i CHEERED when you brought up the shadow and silver series. i forgot the name of it and have been looking for it for years, i was so obsessed with it as a kid and i still think about it constantly. i used to sit in the watch party game on gaiaonline and do nothing but watch the sonic shorts animations and the shadow and silver series with random people, it was a blast. i miss mid-2000s internet

I just appreciate this side of Sonic's fandom, so creative, inspirational, entertaining and was part of a lot of childhoods, back in the day when the internet was wholesome, when we would spend hours watching content made by fans and for fans. Still, there is the dark side of the Sonic's fandom, and believe me, it's better not to see it.

I always say this to my brother, the internet may have existed before and Kids these days also grow up with the internet like our generation, but our generation specifically (late 90's 2000's) grew up consuming content right along the creators themselves, both camps were new to this stuff and it was great to remember how we all grew up together
Final Fantasy Sonic X6 was my Jam, ironically that game introduce me to Megaman with it's intro and X and Zero's presence and Super Mario Bros Z was so much fun to watch with my cousins, those 2 were my favorite but i do remember a lot from what you brought up

This video is a huge nostalgic find for me, so many creators Iâve seen in the past that made so many fun memories for me as a kid whether it was just animation, stop motion, voice acting, fanart or a fan game, in the end they were always rlly creative with where to take the story, some more in depth than others while others more meant to be fun, one thing I do need to finish is FFSX cuz damn that was a banger when I first played it
this video is honestly perfect you mentioned so many series that brought me genuine MONTHS if not YEARS of fun the only thing i can think of big in sonic that you didnt mention is the mario vs sonic movie series from GamingAllStarsGmod they are definitely a product of there time but i think they deserve a spot here.
Man, this was a GREAT retrospective. I didnt get into Sonic until around when Sonic Rush Super Smash Bros Brawl, and Sonic Unleashed were released. And when i found out about the internet and youtube growing up, i learned about all the cool things the fans have made. i found games such as Ultimate Flash Sonic, Sonic Before + After the Sequel, Sonic Robo Blast 2, and even Sonic Robo Blast 2 Kart. I found projects such as Sonic Shorts, Super Mario Bros. Z, LBP Sonic and Shadow the movie, and even Sonic Stop Motion Adventures as you mentioned in the video. As a guy who was LITERALLY born on Sonic's Birthday (but a few years later), this was destiny in the making that i would become a sonic fan and be among many passionate people within this community.

Man, did i get hit with nostalgia seeing these again. Loved these as a kid. It's unfortunate to see RosytheRascal15 not be a part of it because i remember watching him a lot as a kid, too. Suprised i didn't see this video sooner, though.
Sonic RPG was something not mentioned in here but was a really big part of my childhood and has an extremely similar vibe, play style (obviously), and impact on everyone!
Upon watching this, I decided to replay Final Fantasy Sonic X6. Although it took about six tries, I managed to beat it on Hard mode upon my first time replating it in years!

This video was amazing. I remember almost everything in this video from my childhood. The rush of nostalgia was incredible. A little disappointed there was no mention of my childhood favorite Sonic creator SonicToast, who is known for basically starting the whole Sonic stop motion trend, making stop motions series dating back to 2003 even before CZcams. However the fact that Sonic stop motions even got a mention was enough for me. Amazing video
Sonic sprite animations are so amazing to rewatch there's a couple lost episodes that will only live in my memory

Not being a native english speaker myself I didn't run into many of the fan content mentioned here BUT there used to be a few channels dedicated to dubbing both official and fan animations into german. Most notably there was MrShidalko and ElementsOfJustice (the latter of which is still active and I am still subscribed to). They introduced the concept of fandubs and obviously a bunch of great content to me and to this day I still connect their voices to the characters. It's something I look back on so fondly and without their work I don't think I would have become as obsessed with this franchise as a kid as I was!

It's really great to see all of these nostalgic Sonic fan pieces of media after so long from my childhood. In fact, stuff like this got me to make my own Sonic fan videos of my own fandub parody movies of previous Sonic games. I glad all of these fan creations inspired me to make my Sonic fandub parody movies.
