    Years ago I was involved in a flat 8 design project and it is certainly doable. The flat engine (boxer design) is by nature a much more balanced and faster reving engine. That is the reason that Porsche has stayed with that layout. I am most interested in the new Porsche aimed at the Ferraris

    I'm a Mech. Engineering student and I've been designing a 2L V8 based on the BMW 1000RR engine using the same idea on CAD inventor.. I think that a 1.5L V6 TT would make the perfect engine for an efficient lightweight setup, you should look into forced induction for your next project!

    Now make a flat 8 out of it, or a 180 degrees v-engine like a Testarossa. So it keeps the weight down for a better center of gravity

    • @davem5333
      @davem5333 Před 10 lety +6

      Don't know that a flat-8 would be all that much lighter. Nor would its center of gravity be that much lower because the engine has to be mounted higher in the vehicle in order to clear the exhaust pipes.

      Neither would be able to rev nearly as high, plus you'd be moving the velocity stacks out of vertical making it a little harder to breathe, I'd imagine that thing needs a ton of air at wot.

      Inline 8's have the inherent disadvantage of crankshaft rigidity needing to be higher due to it being longer

  • @stevenvirdenrasmussen-jone4671

    The layout of the other components make that very difficult. It requires adding counterweight webs which makes it necessary to spread the bore positions, as crank and rod bearing areas need to be sufficient. Crank harmonics are an art form in addition. This is a beautifully executed concept, and my hats off to the creators.

    Nice work! Sadly however, Hartley over at H1V8 has been making these for year as well as Powertec. The other sad part is they cost $30,000+ But the power to weight is amazing!! 3.2L = 500hp/320ft-lbs for less than 200lbs and not to mention the 11,000 RPM red line.

    Quando esse motor girar não vai funcionar.
    Os cabeçotes das bancadas foram invertidos para coincidirem os DUTOS DE ADMIÇÃO no centro do V.
    Mas enquanto a corrente de comando de um dos cabeçotes vai girar sentido horário a outra vai girar anti-horário. Por causa disso só uma bancada terá sucesso. A outra não.
    A solução é fundir um novo cabeçote para apenas uma bancada onde os dutos de admissão e escape tenham permanência contrária ao original

    Cranks twist all about, to varying degrees all throughout the rpm range, You were stumped by having to design a mirror copy of the cylinder head and instead chose to drive the cams of 1 cylinder heads by way of the rear of the crankshaft. The timing would be all over the place depending on rpm and load. It would be a ruff running engine even if compensation was ground into the cams or off set rod journals. Lot easier to get control of when driving the cams from same location, that could be front or the back, just not 1 of each. Thats why it wasnt done by any big manufactures. Think of the money saved by only having to cast and tool up for 1 cylinder head! Looks really cool tho!

    • @psk1w1
      @psk1w1 Před 6 lety +2

      This engine uses the cylinder head and cylinder block of a production motorcycle engine. The reason for having one cylinder head driving off the front of the engine, and the other driven from the rear, is to accommodate the driven end of the cylinder head - when you turn it around so that both heads have the exhausts facing outward, and the inlets are in the centre of the V, the cam drives will be at opposite ends of the motor.
      . The Hartley V8 likewise uses two Hayabusa cylinder heads and has cam drive from both ends of the motor. Synergy make V8 engines based on the BMW S1000rr and Kawasaki engines, using the same method

    • @alanpassat6759
      @alanpassat6759 Před 8 lety

      You'd find solid works crashes and struggles with very large assemblies, hence CATIA or Pro|E being used by almost every engine designer. Solidworks is not as powerful as Pro|E or has as rich a command set.

    • @nlo114
      @nlo114 Před 8 lety

      +Paul Evans - I suspect they have all changed since I did my training! I did the full 'factory' Autocad courses, plus animation using 3-D Studio max. At the time, learning Pro-E was like driving a bowl of porridge. I was introduced to SW and found it a piece of cake to use, so I stayed with it, although I've not used the latest versions.

    • @alanpassat6759
      @alanpassat6759 Před 8 lety

      +nlo114 Pro|E and CATIA are far far more powerful than AutoCAD and Solidworks. They are high end, and can handle any design task. Solidworks and Inventor are simpler packages that are fine for simpler things. If you are designing Powertrain, which are very large assemblies with complex parts, and are designing parametrically, Pro|E (Creo now) or CATIA are the tools of choice. Although CATIA V5 is old now and feels old.
