The reunion has happened! Ott Tänak has signed for M-Sport for next year's World Rally Championship.
It's tremendously exciting for M-Sport Ford but, perhaps more so for the WRC's entire fanbase as each of the three teams now has a A-list driver in their ranks.
So what does the big news mean for Tänak, M-Sport and indeed the WRC as a whole?

As estonian, I am glad to see Ott back in M-Sport, where his career began!
As a welsh man I couldn't agree more champions next year if he can switch the car on like loab.
Love from India🇮🇳 to ott tanak
This is the most interesting scenario. Tanak vs Rovanpera vs Neuville, balanced! :)
If all had different Toyota teams it would be fair...
Don't underestimate Lappi. Great season coming next year.
@@markyyy2008 Yes, I see Lappi being as strong as Neuville, if not stronger at some rallies, especially in fast rallies like in FInland. Neuville fears fast rallies. :D
And Evans he was strong at Monte and Japan last year and others only bad luck
Lmao Neuville
Shows also how good mr. Wilson/Ford keeps relationship ties. Very good for Ott. Good luck to both team and Ott.
Really? I thought the only thing it showed was there are only three manufacturer’s in the WRC. There is the team Ott just left. There is the team that won the championships and the team principal has said since September they are not looking for new drivers. Then there is M-Sport.
@@williamlasl He could've taken a year off just like Ogier did in 2012 and try to find a team for 24/25 when new regulations will come into force.
@@maqui1814 Sure, the “no drive” option.
@@maqui1814 no drive or maybe retirement options.
On the one hand M-Sport wanted a reliable driver after all the drama last year
On the other hand Ott definitely wanted to be the protagonist driver of the team he belongs to
To me it seems that the main thing he wanted is a reliable car that would suit his driving style.
he just wanted a good car to fight for championship without problems
His biggest mistake was leaving Toyota
@@zdenekprecechtel6741 yes ok but he left for a team with many manufacturer wins and with adamo as boss so its nod that that bad idea but everything changed after
Tänak just wants a car he can blame for not succeeding, hence the arguably tier 2 team
As a Finnish-Estonian-American I’m beyond stoked that Ott is back w/M-Sport. For me, its all about my favorite driver in the Puma Hybrid. With the teams evenly matched, 2023 is going to be incredible.
No1 driver for M-sport will be a good thing , with the car adjusted to suit Ott driving style etc only good things to come from this news , All the best to whole team in 2023 !
as an estonian i confirm its awesome that he joined m sport and you nailed the pronounciation
This is best for the sport. We have all top drivers in different teams!!!
tanak in Finland was magical
Driving over 100% was insane
Drive of the year for sure
Finally, FORD can end up on the podium again, thanks to Ott Tänak. 👍
YEAH! can't wait to see it!
Long overdue 💯
@@jasonbegaming244 there you go :D
Even won 2 rallies this year thanks to him he was pretty unlucky this season sadly
When Ott was told to slow down and maintain his position (i forget which race that was) that is the moment he made the decision to say Good Bye!!
Neuville was on his 9th season with Hyundai, he has built a good rapport with the team, so of course he's the favoured son there. Interestingly, it was a Hyundai executive who made the call, not Moncet, who was the acting principal for a year. The Frenchman doesn't have the charisma and the position to decide all by himself.
Hr.Tänak,edu Sulle!!!!
M-Sport need a very experienced driver to lead the team and Tanak fits the bill
Rovanpera in Toyota, Neuville in Hyundai and Tanak in M-Sport. One top driver for each team. When Ott gets to grips with his new car it will be a very exciting championship.
Very happy to hear about Ott joining the M-Sport and PUMA is a really fast car capable of winning most of the rallies, specially when Tänak is going to be the driver!! Proud to be an estonian and looking forward to see exiting battles next year. Ott on parim ja kiireim mees, selles pole kahtlust ja loodetavasti Ford kestab ilma lagunemiseta.
In a working car he is the fastest driver of all of them at the moment
Yep. he is very aggressive but it can backfire
But does the car survive that driving style and low setup? Kalle is fastest especially in horrible weather on any surface.
@@aanttila867 He was faster in wet conditions because the hyundai was horrible to handle in wet conditions. Both Neuville and Tänak suffered in the rain.
@@alvar891 Estonia Power stage, was mad against Lappi, Evans and all others. We heard Hyundai was bad from Ott I know. Neuville was just bad period. Hope next year is more equal for the drivers.
OTT needs to just be consistent.. back off the speed when it counts
Nice to see Tanak back with Ford M-Sport.
Great move. Ott I think personally is loved in M-Sport and vice versa. With that we are going to have a mega championship fight in 2023
I think Ott fits M-Sport, there is enough space for his ego, he can develop a car and make it faster for others aswell, and he even gets a really good chassis with potential to start with. Even the championship with a more gravel focused calender is an advantage for Ott next season.
It really does seem like Hyundai suffered from reliability issues while M-Sport's drivers just didn't have the pace or consistency needed to get the most out of the Puma. Had to be frustrating to prove to everyone that their car could win rallies after Loeb dominated Monte Carlo, only to have either Greensmith and Fourmaux veering off into trees/rocks/bushes almost EVERY. Single. Weekend. They have to drop one or both of those guys, no one except maybe Breen and Loeb if he decides to come back should be safe.
@@kevinking9752 The Puma was easily a good car, but the drivers weren’t good enough. Craig Breen was among the fastest at the beginning of every Rally before crashing inevitably and Seb Loeb was a front runner in 3/4 Rallyes
Still, many think the Puma's engine is the weakest engine of the 3. So.. some rallies may not suit that well, sadly. Hope they can update engine soon enough.
Instantly makes M-sport legitimate again. It was getting hard to watch the M-sport boys wreck every rally this year. I hope they can lure a legitimate second driver to push against Toyota.
3:48 that was one of the best years of modern WRC... a privateer team winning over manufacturers.
Absolutely delighted to have him back! Great news 👍🏻
I am so so happy to see ott return to M-Sport
This is like a dream come true this is what M-Sport need a man that can fight for the championship 2023 wrc is going to be fantastic
I am so Happy for Ott Tanak an Ford this what they need for 2023.
Congrats to M-sport for nailing a pilot in his prime: Ott Tänak. The next job is now to give him a machine purring to perfection.. 🔥🔥!
I was hoping it to happen so many years. Ott ja Martin edu Teile🇪🇪🇪🇪🇪🇪🇪🇪🇪🇪
Welcome back home Ott. This is where it all started. You are a world champion & yes, Ford Puma, the crew, boss Malcolm is the best recipe for success. 2023, Ott is back mentored by Loeb... twende kazi...🇰🇪
Delighted for Msport and Ott. I hope Ford keeps developing the Puma and Solberg comes back in a Ford Puma MONSTER WRC team ;)
Malcolm always says, "if u want to win, hire a Estonian"
The correct saying is - if you want the best hire EST 😉🇪🇪
Better take a FIN.
@@karvanenpalli8508 Lol from Estonia. Indeed both are best - Est or Fin. We love Kalle and Lappi. Hoping wins for Lappi!!!
Uh, wasn’t M-Sport’s last championship won by a Frenchman?
Is this the right decision for Tänak? What can he achieve in 2023? 🤔
If the car drives. a world title. If the car beaks down. Nothing. The funniest part in all this is that Tänak himselt brought Hyundai to the heels of Toyota with is fierce need of car development. But..... M-Sport broke down just as often as Hyundai did last season. And in many cases, the cars crashed because the drivers didn't have the feeling inside the car. So we'll have to wait until Estonia/Finland until we see the real pace of Tänak and the Puma. And the title challenge may be on for 2024. Given that M-Sport manage to survive the economic crisis.
To me it is. Thanks to the Master, we've seen the car is fast. It just needed a full-time ace to shine 👍
@@elisterr9913 How many times did Breen say that car feels amazing to drive and yet he still crashed. Crashes were all caused by drivers, nothing to do with car being bad to drive.
Best decision for Ott and Msport. It will ne interesting playing field, well balanced and Msport needed a good driver for the Puma Rally 1
He is much faster overall than Rovenpera. Strong contender for the drivers title.
Now I just pray for Oliver to get a rally seat in WRC again, if I could dream big it would be in a PSA/Stellantis car (Read Opel) but chances for that are minimal sadly atm.
Looks like a proper, competitive, and exciting 2023 WRC season coming up!
This is fantastic for the championship. 2023 should be a cracker.
Great short summary!!!
Countdown.
Loeb and Ogier in the mix as well at some occasions
Going to be a close championship, very exciting year ahead.
Finally M Sport get the top flight driver they need to compete across the full WRC season and Tanak can get the backing he deserves from a manufacturer.
Hyundai never seemed to get the best out of Ott and this season it felt like Ott forced the i20 way past it's limits to get results, Finland was a master class drive and despite this it always felt that the Hyundai team was built for Thierry and they never got the best out of Ott.
Can't wait for Monte now with the potential for a battle for the title with three teams not just a Toyota inter team scrap
2023 is going to be exciting !
Great news Love M Sport
Would be cool if he dominates next year and brings that title back to Ford, but competition will be tough so he also needs another team m8s around him who can take points away from another drivers so it cant be only him.
Loubet
Kalle vs Ott battle will be legendary
I'm behind you as your diehard supporter hoping that your time has come to be a champion
Great news. Look forward to seeing you back in a Ford
This is exciting!
Hang on to your helmet , whoa what a combination , the Puma has what it takes , just ask Seb Loeb , I believe that this combination will see Tanak back as world champion in 2023 .
I'm really happy to see him sign with M-Sport. He's one of the best drivers out there and one of my favorites. I was worried I won't get to see him next year at the Central Europe Rally (the first WRC rally I'm going to attend), so I'm even more happy he's found a seat. Will be great to see him in the Puma, I'll be cheering for him, hope it goes great.
It's also really nice that all 3 teams now have a clear leader. Rovanpera is the Toyota guy, Neuville is the Hyundai guy and Tanak is the Ford guy. The next season is gonna be great.
I hope Loubet and Greensmith also get full time seats, and that we'll see more of Loeb and Formaux or Solberg. Or perhaps Huttunen, Mikkelsen, Suninen? I can't wait for the rest of the lineup.
its about all they could do and is a pleasant surprise. just have to sort the car out now as no excuses next year. cant help thinking elfin evans has a big shout next season as cant be happy having rovenpera show everyone how its done, and with ease .
👍😀🍺🍺Ott and Järveoja 🥳
'bout time!
I can’t believe it happened. So happy for M Sport and Ott. Hopefully it’s more than a 1 and done
The best outcome!
This is very interesting
This is good news. The car is obviously good, but it just needed a really top driver to get the best out of it. Ott should do well in it.
That was a No Brainer!! Welcome back home Prodigal Son!
where it all began
Part of me is incredibly happy about this news, not just for Ott having a team and seeing him doing another full season, but also having him drive for my favourite team. For an Estonian expat living in the UK, someone who's followed rallying since the late 90s and witnessed Markko Märtin's rally wins in M-Sport, this couldn't be better. However...
M-Sport was not just the slowest car this season, it also the least reliable. Sure, Loeb did well, but he's always been in a class of his own and his one win means nothing. Everyone else struggled in that car, inlcudng Breen who had been so much better in the i20. Of course Malcolm and Ott will talk about fighting for the champioship, they have to believe or else there's no point competing. But I think it's incredibly naive for anyone to realistically believe that the Puma can challenge. The team also has no budget for development and testing etc. How can the possibly compete? A rally win or two at the very most. No more.
I dearly hope that Ott and M-Sport will prove me wrong. But I think Ott would've still had better result in the i20 and this move was a mistake if he genuinely cared about winning.
But perhaps it isn't just about winning any more? Who knows...
Another thing is the immense pressure Ott will now be under. To be the lead driver and essentially the only proper driver in a team who can ill afford your salary or even the cars you are driving, yet still expects you to win the championship? It'll quite possibly be 'Craig Breen' all over again for M-Sport, in 2023.
Again, I really hope I'm wrong. And I'll be glued to telly and the internet, following every second, hoping for the best for both Ott and M-Sport. But I just can't see anything good happening, sadly.
Oh yes! I like this!
My Idol..💪
With this move, I've no doubt that the driver title will not be decided until the last event in 2023, and it will not be a wide points spread between Kalle and Ott.
Why did Ott sign at M-Sport? Because there are only three manufacturers. There is the team Ott just left. There is the team that won the championships and is not looking for new drivers. Then there’s M-Sport.
The boy is home
New season will be interesting .

@@DirtFish thanks a bunch!

good stuff
Now we will find out. Is it the car or the driver?
Awesome news
This is good for the sport
Exactly. Just what the wrc needed.
Looks like a man with unfinished business 🏁🏁🏁
Because he can 😁👍
Good times ahead for Tanak, M-sport and WRC fans! Both title fights open for 2023? :)
Wish him a better luck and more reliable car next year. He deserve it. I believe in ford puma wrc capability.
the KING drive the MONSTER nr.1 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!....gooooooooooooo OTTTTTOOOO goooooooooo !!!!
An early Xmas present for Ford rally fans. I only hope Tanak does not have a season like that of 2018 at Toyota - a few wins but the car letting the driver down at times. Did Ford see that the hybrid Rally 1 cars work well to continue support? What is M-Sport's engineering staff like now?
Cool, it took them a long time before Tanak signed that contract which is the only logical choice. Question is, what will be Msports new lineup?
1. Ott Tanak
2. Gus Greensmith
3.?
Loubet
Personally I think Pierre-Louis should get a full season.
gus needs be dropped formeaux was disappointing if pierre doesn't get fulltime I'll be flabbergasted, should be him and the loeb and someone else part time not sure who maybe formeaux or one the wrc2 top guns with a opportunity
Loubet performed well when he was driving alongside Loeb. He could make a good jump from driving with Tänak a whole season. Remember how Evans and Ott both leaped forwards driving with Ogier.
@@JREwing-lf7kj Gus is pretty consistent so I doubt they'll drop him, Fourmaux I'd understand if they drop him since he crashed out so many times. At the very least they should have him share a car with Jari Huttunen.
brillant
Cool!
Nice 👍
Maybe this time Ford can get some podiums! They’ve had the car just not the drivers
Wow! I thought it might happen but it was exciting to open CZcams and see it's actually happened.
Loeb showed pace in the Ford but it wasn't that reliable for him. I'm not sure Tanak will find what he's looking for at M-Sport, although I wish him and the team success next year!
Are you watching Thierry🕺 , Thierry are you watching 💃🏻🕺💃🏻
if m-sport can get that front end to turn in...
It does. problem it's it turns too much and overheats
I'm shocked
Neuville never will be a threat, Kalle indeed is a great, but somehow as lucky as Ogier (as it should be in motorsport), Ott will bring Ford in top, no matter what
I still think they should sign Andreas Mikkelsen for a part-time season. Ridiculous waste of talent. M Sport are still weak on gravel or snow rallies, where they can effectively only rely on Tänak if Loeb isn't driving. Mikkelsen is fast but is crucially reliable and very experienced in the WRC. He would bring the kind of dependability that M Sport need after this year's season.
He had hes changes, coudnt deliver.
@@karvanenpalli8508 He delivered at Volkswagen. Wasn't the fastest but was a regular on the podium and won two WRC. At Hyundai he struggled with that car. The car was set up for Neuville. He doesn't ahve to be the fastest driver out there. He just has to be solid and fast and that is exactly what he is and exactly what M Sport need.
I'm unconvinced by Tanak's move. At the end of 2022, Ford was less competitive than either Hyundai or Toyota. It's likely to be similar next year, unless M-Sport gets a big budget. Tanak was disgruntled with poor reliability, he brought the topic of any car issues in interviews frequently. So he's going to the team with a slower car.
ciao morning to all awesome 👋💛❤👍
Tanak said when he left Toyota it was for reliability.. how wrong he was! Unluckiest driver ever since, but can't wait to see him challenge Kalle in 2023 with a much more reliable but quick car, Loeb proved that 🙂
Can't believe you boys didn't mention Elfyn. Biggest threat to them all
surely I think Elfyn is probably stronger than Neuville, yes, in near future. Or similar. I think Elfyn requires more time - his approach is slow, cautious. Neuville goes more all in, risks more, more over limits at times
Jos saa veikl

Reliability
Hyundai can't make a road or race car that doesn't have issues...
That's dope, but I had a feeling that would be the case when Craig left.
I just can't imagine Ott TÄNAK joining this forces. How will it be?
What experience awaits him in that beast PUMA car.
If Gus won a stage with it🤔🤔 How about Ott. I just like ott my hero
So the previously-stressed financial aspect didn't prove an obstacle to his re-return in the end.
Interesting anyway & good for WRC, although I doubt Puma would be championship-capable next season either, but never say never.
BTW, I like the video structure that gives The Race vibes with random background images, footage, & music alongside commentary + interval segment headlines.
Well let's be honest, the Puma hasn't really had any champion-caliber drivers yet.
@@jonathanhansson804 True
Only 9 times wrc champion Sebastian loeb😂
tänak ford #1
He would've been 3 times world champion hadn't he left Toyota.
How could M-sport afford this? Did Ford inject some money into this deal? Does Tänak get some shares of M-sport for a successful season(s)? It's quite rather unexpected.
It sure would be nice if there were more professional journalism in the rally world to get to the bottom of these things.
It is not about salary. In Hyundai Tänak wage was less than Neuvilles. But Tänak had contract with Hyundai to maintain and build Hyundai rally 2 cars, so in the end he earned more than 2 times more than Neuville. So salary dosent need to be that large, but it can compensate with other deals, like Premium right to sell Ford car parts or have His companys advertised on Ford cars or assets. There is many ways to make it balance out without directly pay huge sums.
he will have to take it easy in Monte, too treacherous and changing to go for the win. I think we will have to wait a couple of rallies to see him shine
Estonians waited long time ago decision to join m-sport!
