- When I was younger, I've been told that there were 500 Scenes in this game and Scene 500 was supposed to involve almost if not every feature in the game and be VERY tough. Well, that was a lie... 30 years later, I finally get an answer... ;)

Nostalgia overload. One of the hardest games I've ever played.
One of my favorites as a kid back in 84/85. Fun little game that had really good graphics and was challenging as well.
Up in the morning drinking coffee and nerding out. Out of nowhere, I start singing the music to this game!! So I searched for gameplay and... just.... wow. I think I was about 11 y/o when my cousin let me borrow his ColecoVision and this game. I even sing this damned music at work!! Thanks for the upload!

Holy Krautsalat! You showed some determination and you have my sincere respect. I have played the game for long hours at a friend's house. Back in the day I never got a video game console. I have very fond memories of that era, playing Coleco, Intellivision and Atari. Anyway, I distinctly remember how this game wooed us with it's promise of 500 different game screens. But despite all our efforts we never made it past the first couple dozen screens. But weirdly enough we thought it a big adventure then and the graphics really impressed us. Ah, those days of wonder and naivety. ;)

I am so joyous finding this video. Me and my big bro used to play this game in Korea but the character from the game was a boy. I didn't know they made a girl character until now..It must be around 86 or 87...Super happy! Thank you so much for posting this..

A true first party title, perhaps the most first party possible for the Colecovision.
Nintendo had Mario, Sega eventually had Sonic, but Coleco had the Cabbage Patch Kids
Coleco did have the Cabbage Patch Kids license, but the game itself was actually produced under license from Konami-this was a reskinned version of the MSX game "Athletic Land."

Totally agree with you! And I really loved Venture and Lady Bug. Didn't get to play Montezuma's Revenge or Miner 2049er. Looping was pretty nice along with Mr Do, Gorf and Tapper. :)
Not sure if anyone knows this trick I figured out as a child... When you get to a scene with balls bouncing, just jump one space at a time, jump the cabbage leaf, keep jumping one step at a time till the scene switches. This helps immensely in forward play!! You're awesome!! Thank you for the video. I have the ColEm on my phone and tablet. It is so nice to see people still play these games. I have beat this once with a cheat on a desktop computer. I would hit save everything scene... I got to stage 56 when I was 14, all on ONE kid!! And one last note... How many of us took that last leap when you see the Babyland park sign?? Face it, we are trying to leap passed!! 😂😂😂😂

I finally made it past the screen with the snowflakes and the high bouncing balls. That killed literally every legit run i did when I was young...
Try playing it with the Superaction controllers. When you spin the spinning wheel on the controller, she moves across the screen like she just smoked an ounce of crack and meth at the same time. Lol..

I used to play this, smurf, space fury, cosmic avenger, zaxxon, donkey kong and about 15 others
The graphics aren't as good as today's fames but I still have fond memories of these and it was my first games console
6 year old me was thoroughly trolled and tormented by this evil game, lol. I also played it backwards.

I played this in 1984 at a friend's house and to someone who had until then only known video games through the Atari 2600 these graphics were amazing.............
At last the ending after 40 years... wait... there is no ending just an endless cycle without any visual conclusion! What a disappointment! I played it many times as a child but I did not have your patience and dexterity. Compliments!

I know it's niche and i appreciate it's a licencing nightmare, but i wish we could get a Colecovision collection for modern consoles.

Moving forwards, anything identical to 2:29 SCENE-23 and 11:44 SCENE-92 is the most brutal.
actually strange...with all the speedrunnin' videos these days I was expecting more coverage off this game...this game should do perfect for challenging high scores

Not really the end of the game since I could continue on and on. I just focussed on breaking the myth of the 500 scenes, which was a false myth. :)
@@FaySusan so...is anywhere documented IF there is an ending to this game...or will the stage counter reset after stage 99? Not much info to be found on the web...
By the way ...you score is awesome...is the backways play legit for a highscore or is it considered a form of cheating?
I saw a claim for a world record score on twin galaxies site and twas way lower than your score...so I wondered about that
@@marsiozo Going backwards is part of our choice at the beginning of the game. Easier that way, but to be considered as cheating? Not at all. The game allows that big time.
@@FaySusan allright...I just wondered if the route forward (standard from left to right) or backwards (right to left) might influence entitlement to record scores....
still I find it hard to believe this game would be infinite. Most of the games from this era had some ending of some sort...maybe even a kill screen where the game just crashes at a certain level.
As you can probably tell Im quite intrigued by this game at the moment. Although Im not as good at this game or plan to go for a high score myself, I do believe this game deserves proper documentation about all the levels and demystifying whether its infinite or not. I mean ...come on there are walkthroughs for Pitfall where the level design and ways to obtain te treasures seems so much more complex than CPK...
You know there's one final challenge to be had for this game @Jocelyn Rose, and that's to see if it's infinite or a kill screen, and the way to do that is to roll the Stage counter (aka get to Stage 100)

@@FaySusan On the MSX version (Athletic Land), you get a credit screen after clearing stage 99, the it goes to stage 00. Loops back to the start afterwards. Not sure if that also the case with the Coleco version
I was OBCESSED with this game as a young girl. I only ever got to stage 100 and some... I had an emulator. On the console,never met a person that could pass stage 56. That was my record on the coleco. Wish i had a good emulator. Where are good free ones for PC?? Thank you so much for this!! Ever do Mr. Do,Grog's revenge, any others??

OMG!!! Where did you find this game! This took me back to being six years old and fighting with my older brother as to who would be player 1, lol. Everything sounds exactly how I remembered! I see you chose the same method I did, lol. Playing the game backwards. I never could win...the boards seemed to go on and on.
+Trisha Collymore Teh game has no ending lol. I found it years ago for emulators, though I had the game when our Coleco was still working. :)

Back in time, it was easy to get those on Internet. Now it's something else.
Your best bet is to download them now and play them with an emulator.

Hello Shannon! If you look carefully, it goes to approx. 500 (100x5 or so...)
Every stage has 10 scenes. Stage 50 = 500 scenes. ;)
