  • Built in China for the Chinese market, the latest Buick fills up a huge crossover hole in their SUV lineup. Those of you shopping for that ever competitive small premium crossover now have another entry to look at, but it may be hard to see past other well known German and Japanese rivals.

I'm really digging this SUV. I think GM did a solid job with amenities, styling, and pricing. And although it's being made in China, we live in a global market these days, so it's very understandable.
Not only that, it's still an American brand, and it's still being engineered and manufactured by a brand I trust.
And I think it speaks volumes to our American ingenuity and engineering that China holds GM and Buick especially to their high standards.
A few things though, I really would've liked to see a 3.6L V6 option, with the 2.0T as the entry engine, but it does make sense - modern four bangers are reliable, quiet, competent performers that leave smaller environmental footprints than six and eight cylinder options.
And as for the lights being projected halogens or xenons, I'm actually okay with that. I do not like having LEDs; they're far too bright for oncoming traffic, their dispersion is poor and they end up having very poor road visibility considering how physically bright they are, and manufacturers tend to charge far too much for the upgrade to LEDs considering that LEDs are inexpensive to produce.
But hey, that's just me. Anyway, solid review, cheers!

wow, Buick has come such a long way. far better material quality, build quality, luxury, and features. glad they are going for more of a premium brand niche like Acura and Lincoln rather than going the route of trying to compete with Cadillac/Lexus.

So, we have been shopping for a midsize SUV, we've test driven everything, last night we test drove this car, pretty much the same equipment, just add in the panoramic roof. I was amazed at how well it drove, just a touch down from the XC60, but better than the vast majority of SUV's....Now the kicker, I 100% agree that at $45k Buick is smoking crack, however, our the car we drove stickered at $42k, out the door price, $31k.....At that price it becomes a very serious contender.

The 3.6 omission is obviously to move V6 buyers into a XT5. The interior is pretty nice and the price is actually cheaper than the German big 3. Sounds like this prioritizes quiet luxury than sport luxury, which adheres to Buick's philosophy. Given how much Chinese loves the Lexus RX & NX and the love of Buick in China, I think this Envision would be a hit.

  • @yoshiakik.5332

Also, also, one more thing. I watched your video to the end, and at ~$50k, fully loaded, Buick seems to be taking the same approach as the LaCrosse - moving itself upmarket. Yes, you may have a point, that is arguably overpriced; however name "cachet" and value is very subjective. Yes, Cadillac has a greater cachet and always had, but if you put into perspective Buick's past prestige value in names such as the Park Avenue and Riviera, then yes, Buick certainly has argument to charge very premium prices. This angle is one we we all forget - Buick's very rich history in the Unites States, a history that the German and Japanese brands can never replicate. Anyhow, at ~$50k for a mid-sized crossover, I'd go for a lower trim level Porsche Macan. I seen a beautiful black 2017 Macan at Costco on display just last week for $51,000.

    • @shethjones4494
      @shethjones4494 Před 7 lety

I think overpriced is partially based on the notion that it SHOULD be 20% cheaper than anything else in the same class regardless of performance and features. This is better equipped than the cheaper lexus and acura so if you account for features it's really not much more. And contrary to what was inferred in the video, you can't get a German CUV in this class with these features for this money. Now you can get a stripped down german CUV for Envision money and some people (including the reviewer) seem to think a badge is worth more than luxury content. The MKC is just as pricey as this and also has a 6 speed auto.

I think more focus should have been placed on NX and RDX as competitors. Contrary to what was presented here, the Germans cost more with similar equipment and are not really most direct competitors. The Germans start around $40k and easily exceed $50k with the level of equipment on this test vehicle. The NX200t isn't faster, more powerful or better equipped- it also has a 6 speed transmission (as does RDX if Im not mistaken) just like this vehicle. A loaded NX is $47k but you don't get auto parking, 4G LTE, apple carplay, 19" wheels, pano roof and a few other things. I think those features are easily worth $3k. An X3 with similar kit is pushing $60k. And that is the turbo 4 model, not the 6. BTW, most of these vehicles (save RDX) are around 2 tons so Envision is not really overweight for the class.

Not a bad review, but you did not know the reason it has a six speed. The design is from 2014 Detroit, MI when the SUV was introduced in China in limited availability (the car is USA designed). There was no 8 or 9 speed GM had at that point. The 8/9 speed in the LaCrosse is available because that car launched this year in the USA. The car is made in China because the design is not shared with any other division If this sells well, GM plans to make a Chevy on the same platform and potentially then move production here.

16mpg in city is terrible.. Mustang GT can do that.. but you have the 6 speed auto ? and you did for sure do a carefu hwy test and got 27-28mpg. I'm considering this vehicle and it's a deal breaker if (when driven moderately, not tested like you do) an average of 22-24mpg of mixed driving and it needs to do 28mpg or better on hwy for my approval as my next car.. the Equinox with 9speed auto reaches 30mpg, apparently, on hwy. I love your reviesws and would be nice to have you do more testing with solid fuel ecomomy results and some gadget that gives an actual 1/4 results, so we can compare with competitors... 50-70 acceleration test is very key.. passing power is more important than 0-60, as many turbos don't have top end and though it's faster than one car 0-60, it may be slower result 50-70... Thanks again for great general reviews...

20 City/26 Highway? That is way too low for a Turbo 4 cylinder, I have a 2016 Highlander XLE with a 3.5L V6 and it also gets
    20 City/26 Highway.

David Austin where the hell do you think they sell 80% of buicks?. gm sells more buicks in china (over 2 million) compared to the us (around 200k) this car was made and engineered for the Chinese market not the us so before everyone starts crying and whining check the facts. by the way with discounts and rebates its a good price for what you get
