- A customer of ours brought in a gaming PC that had recently been upgraded by the customer with a new CPU which was Ryzen 5 5600G, however, after doing so, the system wouldn't boot up at all. So in this video, we tested out the system and determined that the Bios was causing the issue because the newer Ryzen 5 5600G wasn't compatible with certain bios versions of the Gigabyte B450 DS3H, so by doing a quick bios update, we were able to fix the issue and get the system back to the customer. We hope you enjoyed the video and look forward to making more content like this in the future.

And that labour cost is... 300$
Well I can say for sure the labor charge was definitely not that high. I don’t think anyone would charge that much this minor repair. But maybe I am wrong.

Worth it

In my country the engineer will tell the owner to buy a all new motherboard to fit that CPU.

"engineer" hahaha pc janitors are delusional.
That costumer really sent his computer for a repair for a bios update.
It could've been someone with no knowledge of computers and only picked the specsheet,
That's the reason they sent it to someone smarter y'know
@@bacon_with_brussels_sprout If he could replace the cpu, simple troubleshooting like this is easy to resolve with a google search.
@@bacon_with_brussels_sprout checking compatibility is like the first step you do after you fand a possibly suitable hardware
@@mikeoxmall9805 it’s easy to miss the whole bios update thing since you can actually buy the exact same motherboard and get different versions that do or don’t support some CPUs. Not to mention that most people don’t then have a cpu lying around to put in for the bios update.
@@mrbanana6464 not everyone has multiple cpus present at home + they might have been saving for PC components then they buy all but it doesnt boot up
When you look it up on google it says this 'X' CPU is compatible with b450 mobos. Not every website mentions the BIOS update.
This is what happened to me, and i had no old cpus nor could i have borrowed one, and i wouldnt have certainly bought one just for a BIOS update.
AND no matter where I went, they just didn't even know what BIOS update was because it's this uncommon where I live.
So i had to send it to warrantee.
Just because it's an easy fix doesn't mean it's accessible kind of easy
Could have used this video 36 hours ago when I was struggling to figure out my problem😂
Happened to me last night, PC turned on but had no display, it also wouldn’t turn off. After 2 hours of trying to fix it my brother told me that it needed bios update because I had a newer CPU.
A tip for gamers. No matter whether you upgrade your cpu or not, many bios updates optimize the work of the motherboard or fix issues it had since factory and only now were spotted. So better to keep your motherboard up to date
Im having the same processor and motherboard will it cost any performance sacrifice due to old motherboard??

I did the same thing. Ended up being three separate CPU installs and a BIOS update.
how? look at your bios info before updating cpu simple as that. I just update bios every time a newer bios comes out.
@@jakeg1978 he probably didnt know it was something you have to do
just did a similar upgrade to my pc yesterday, I went through with the bios update though since I got some help with it
Good job my dude
Thank you!
Some Gigabyte motherboards have Q flash. No need to get an older CPU to update BIOS with Qflash, just power to the CPU and the correct USB stick with the new firmware on it
I literally did this the other day! It works without anything plugged in except the usb and power, it was kinda magical.
Im not sure if all of them, but most AM4 motherboards support bios by USB in USB0 and doing a procedure (which I dont remember), so you dont have to change the CPU for a compatible one while updating
It's definitely not all of them I can guarantee you that, as for the name it's called bios flashback
uhhh not nearly true.
i dont think a lot of older motherboards have that
Legend for updating the bios instead of telling the customer to buy a new keyboard
I used a 5600g and a b450m pro4 for my first pc build and didn't know about the bios update until after my parts arrived. I thought I needed a loaner cpu to update with but thankfully the board actually arrived with updated firmware and I was stoked.
Oh that's awesome generally that will depend on when the motherboard left the factory as if it was after the release of the newer generation you are good to go, which was likely the case for you.
Dear CZcams fellows, make sure that the mobo you buy has bios flashback so these things don't happen, only if it's not out of your budget
I did a CPU upgrade recently, from a Xeon e5-1620 to i7-6950x. I'm surprised it worked like a charm, plug and play, no need for a bios update or anything.
Most motherboards allow a bios update by using a USB stick as well, so you don’t need to use a spare CPU
qflash plus or asus biosflashback not all mobos have it but if they do, it's definitely a great feature to have
That might be true... But in this case, you won't even be able to get to the bios because the mobo sees that it doesn't match and basically says "Meh, I dunno you." PC needs to be on to even get it to qflash and having a new CPU in will just constantly shut down.
Not most at all.
@@voodooactual8053 the bios flashback/updates in the context he's mentioned is the bios doing it without anything except power connected no CPU etc which is uncommon in most motherboards outside of higher end models
that motherboard does indeed have that feature
Damn bro my cpu is flat u got a spare in the trunk?
Idk how people say they’re pc gamers and try to upgrade their own stuff but can’t take time to fix things like this prior to sending it out. Even reading a Reddit post would have saved them the hassle
Yes doing some extra research would have helped. But do to it being fairly minor we were able to get this fixed the same day to limit their downtime.
That happened to me but like 10 minutes later my brain clicked and said “ bios you dumb ass” and I had a “ohhhhh” moment
Had this exact issue with a B550 and my 5800x as well. MoBo didn't have Bios Flashback of any sort, so I'm glad a local friend had a 3700 to use for the bios update.

Happened when I built a new one. Hard to find a place to let us borrow CPU, they asked me 100 for that. So, buy one with BIOS flashback or something like it.
So im not the only person using that background

My pc has the same specs and wasnt working after building it. This lowkey saved me the time of bringing it to a shop.
Imagine not updating to the latest BIOS before any hardware change.
finally, a guy who doesnt search up fixes on google and charges people for it
Actually he will search new bios on google for the motherboard
I had the same issue but with my 5600x
My biggest fear is replacing the CPU and it needing a bios update because I don't know how tf that works and people make it sound very difficult
this is literally what im about to do, very similar specs, i guess thanks for reminding me to update my bios?
a quick google search and a usb stick is all he needed to solve the issue
How is he going to install a new BIOS with a CPU that doesn't post?
good job not replacing every part in the case before finally coming to that conclusion.
I did a complete rebuild for a friend of mine. He said the components were dead. 2 years went by and I wanted to run a arc server so I revisited the "dead" components. It posted but would boot cycle crashing every time it tried to load windows. I verified with him what the components were and found the culprit. He said it was a ryzen 5 2400. But the mobo reported it as a ryzen 5 1400. So I re flashed the bios to the very first the motherboard ever had and the system booted windows. It was satisfying to fix it and get a computer for little to nothing.
i had the same problem when i got my new cpu a few days ago😂😂 i swapped back to my old cpu, did the bios update and switched back to my new one
When I built my first system i bought a gigabyte b550 motherboard. It said that it was amd ryzen 5000 ready but when i booted it didn't work 🫤. I was scared that some thing might be wrong with the motherboard but i found out that they had a bios flash feature without cpu and ram on their 100 dollar motherboard ( most cheap motherboard's don't) so i got a pen drive and used it to update bios and it worked it was such a relief.
It's those ketchup and mustard cables
Yk you can boot into a b450 motherboard without cpu and ram right?
Usually gigabyte mobos come with the qflash feature, so you don’t need a compatible CPU to update the BIOS. Not sure about B450 mobos though
Correct. All the other comments gave me cancer.
The qflash is the little button u find on the side of the mobo close to the other ports?
Anyone capable of doing a processor upgrade or swap should be competent enough to understand what is required. If it didn't work after they changed something, they themselves are the common denominator; on all counts.
Man could have had a 5900x or 5800x3d and money left over for what he lost on that repair labor cost.
Lol
Not everyone is a PC technician, it's easy not to know you need a bios update after buying a new CPU. Had it happen on my first build

Bruh I literally just did that and had to go through all of this and figure it out and it took 2 days, finally sat down and saw this five minutes later
This exact thing happened to me and while removing the previous processor a few pins bent, so I gad to straighten them and pray for it to work in order to update BIOS. Worked like a charm and took me like 1 hour to figure out what happened ahahahaha
It's always good to keep a bios updated
Especially as it's so easy..many motherboards allow updates without a CPU in the socket
Honestly, most people suggest against BIOS updates as long as you have no issues. Main factor being that not every BIOS update is stable (my MSI bios made my pc restart randomly) and for the risk you take, power goes down? Rip motherboard

Always update your bios
This happend to me too just a few days ago. I upgradez my CPU from a ryzen 5 3400g to a ryzen 7 5800x, but when I powerd the system on nothing was being displayed. At first i started taking components out to see if something was wrong, but then I realised it might be the bios. When I updated the bios the computer started to post again 😄
This is apparently a notorious issue with the i5-13600K. If you don't have a spare CPU lying around then you need a mobo that can be flashed through USB.
Wait really like does it only happens on b mother board or does it happens with z mother board too?
Do people not troubleshoot before taking their pcs to repair shops? And why did the customer by the cpu with an igpu when they have dedicated graphics?
Umart do free bios updates if your in Australia
Aint no way I saw no thermal paste on that
lol this same thing happened to me today but I knew what it might be so I didn’t need help but that’s such a coincidence

Seen that before.. majority of the time I deal with customers who can’t figure out the wiring and almost always ends up being the wires responsible for the power switch board
I use one of those processors for word processing.
PCPartPicker: let me introduce myself

You know that you can do bios update on most modern boards without a CPU even installed right.

Got that Linus Tech Tips build I see.
Easy problem solved. Good to know though. I never had an issue with compatibility yet since I make sure the box (or the seller) says it's compatible. I've had 4 motherboard purchases since Ryzen launched. All good
I remember doing this, and all I had to do was change a setting in the bios. I was like, wtf
i really doubt a customer know how to replace CPU, but did not know that.
Now new motherboards have the option flash bios with a usb stick.
Yeah upgraded my moms cpu and she forgot to update bios, so we spent an extra hour trial running different things before I thought of the bios

3000 series CPUs on B450 need Bios Update.
I was doing it with ryzen 5 5600 on B450
And this is why you always update the BIOS before removing the CPU
Could I first remove old CPU than do bios flashback and then put new CPU? For example old CPU is 2600x on B450Msi Cabon (non MAX) and new CPU is 5800x3d. Thx.
same exact thing happened to me when i upgraded from the r5 1600af to the r5 5500
It’s funny because I had that same problem a couple days ago! I fixed it the same way you did.
This is why I bought my mobo with a bios flash button. I dont have a second cpu, luckily I didnt need to update the bios anyway
Can I do a bios update myself as well? I don’t have an older cpu, just the new one.
Aye I did that earlier and mf pc would still not turn on. It was because my cpu fan heat sync was not touching the cpu at all 😅
maybe he thought A0 was the stock bios
I upgraded my prebuilt. 4 to 5 years old. I had two case fans broken. Slapped all new ones in and a 5800x3d with a big deep cool. It wouldn't boot and two fans weren't spinning but lighting up. After troubleshooting I unplugged one fan from cpu power and checked every connection then boom success. Games run like a dream w tht cpu, upgraded from a ryzen 1700, truly amazing I can slap tht cpu in my pc. I have a b450m pro4. Lucked out on tht being one of the best 450 boards.
why does that computer remind me of a Borg cube?
The b450 ds3h has a bios flashback button. You didn't even need to swap out the CPU. Just needed a flash drive with the bios on them.
I'm wondering, doesn't the B450 DS3H have Q flash (bios flashback but for gigabyte boards)? Because then you wouldn't need to throw in an older cpu to update the bios, instead you could just connect the motherboard to the PSU and click on the Q flash button to update to the newest bios.
On this specific board it didn’t which is why it required us to put in a compatible CPU. I wish it did as it would have been a lot easier to do that. Honestly I think all motherboards should have a bios flash button these days for this exact issue.
That's a budget board
@@mattscomputerservices Completely agree!
i almost had this problem. but thankfully i did full research on what i wanted and what needed to be done. lmao
Would 3060 will need more than 500w power suply?
If many people come over to the Intel Arc GPU line up, some will have to update their bios in order to enable 5g encoding and Resizable BAR and that's if the motherboard supports it, otherwise games will suffer from performance issues.
This is why you buy the Mobo in the store of you can. When i got mine they tested it to make sure it was compatible.
Seems like the customer never did his own homework to find out if his motherboard is compatible and if he needs a bios update to work with the new cpu. It was an easy fix that could've saved him hundreds of dollars.
I had the same problem, luckily I still haven't sold my old cpu yet.
Everyone should be able to do this with newer motherboards. Alas so many new PC users since 2020 can't understand easy things.
Thank god it fit the socket
probably the customer already looked up supported cpu but didn't aware about the bios it needed.
Moral of the story is to Flash the bios to the newest version BEFORE you swap the CPU.
I put a 5 5600x in a b450 it works fine do I need to do updates though
