Somehow my other comment is gone - but maybe I just forgot to push the blue button. So anyway: well-thought and certainly a defensible ranking. I have a giant soft-spot for A, Under Wraps and DotCom, but I am certainly glad to see that you don't throw feces at them (as most of the Tull-fans do in their videos).
I still haven't listened to the The Zealot Gene, but I can kinda imagine that soundwise it is a kind of "Homo Erraticus Part 2".

The albums you mentioned are, indeed, lower in my list, but both A and Under Wraps have some great moments and are in no way as terrible as other fans often depict them, imo. I doubt I'll ever become a Dot Com-fan, though 😉

I'm not familiar with all their albums (and I don't think I would want to get familiar with the more modern ones) but of the ones I know I love "Songs From The Wood"; masterpiece, a bit like a much more competent version of the Incredible String Band (which is a group I love)... the minstrel album I just ordered on Discogs, it sounds like an album I would like...

I like your style. I like your positioning of Heavy Horses above Songs From The Wood, of course, thick as a brick has some of the most beautiful music of all time in any genre. Sorry you made this before Rokflote, which I think is one of the most cohesive works of the whole Tull discography. I’ve heard quite a few people say that it takes three or four lessons to get into it, including me, but now I can’t stop listening to it quite a different soundscape, and at the same time it can be considered more “Tullish” than any Tull album. with its heavy reliance on ancient musical forms. Thanks!
Thanks a lot, indeed. Rokflote ranks at #19 or #18 for me at the moment. Objectively, 'Songs from the Wood' is probably the musicallymore complex and aventurous/proggy album, but something about Heavy Horses always gave it a special place in my heart.

It’s easy. First 4 albums were great. Anything after Aqualung, not so great.
Great albums, indeed. It's always interesting to see from what different directions Tull fans come. There are those that prefer the first albums up until Aqualung, then those for whom Tull only really got started with Aqualung and the prog years, and those who prefer their folk-influenced material from the late 70s. Sorry if it hurt your feelings. I was referring to Tull's general image and that was never a "cool one", especially compared to other big rock bands from the 70s. Whimsical, theatrical, eccentric, men in tights - but not cool. But i like uncool.
