  • Conor McGregor and UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov faced punishment from the Nevada Athletic Commission (NAC) on Tuesday for their respective roles in the melee following their fight at UFC 229 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. The NAC fined McGregor $50,000 and suspended him six months retroactive to the day of their fight. Nurmagomedov was fined a whopping $500,000 and given a nine-month suspension, but that can be reduced to six if he does a NAC-approved anti-bullying PSA. The suspensions aren't a problem, but the fines are and so is the NAC's declaration that speech from fighters should be curtailed.

However, consider the fact that these two foreigners come to America to make most of their money, there should be circumstances in place to harshly fine and penalize them. The fines themselves are ridiculous. But so are the salaries. Chris Paul makes 40 million. Conor and Khabib made millions. There should be mind blowing fines.

@Paddy O'Yakkin to put in perspective. Those players gave up not only more money but a higher percentage of their income. For an action like that only being fined 25% of his purse (before he gets ppv points which is where most of the money will come from) seems extremely fair and in comparison to other sports is actually drastically lighter. Also it's stated that 500k was agreed on as a settlement meaning they probably wanted a longer suspension and less money to which khabib offered more money less time so the number is only that large because he traded time for money I would be willing to bet my life on.

What Conor did was less offensive? He sucker punched a guy that was over 10 feet above the ground on top of the fence. That guy could have fallen and landed on his head, possibly causing death. Conor is not a first time offender either. What was his punishment for jumping over the fence and slapping the referee? Conor threw a water bottle at a press conference and hit someone in the head with it. Conor injured multiple fighters in that bus incident. Khabib jumps over the fence and goes after a fighter and this is his punishment? I seem to remember Conor jumping the fence and provoking Jose Aldo. That is a ridiculous amount of money to take from someone who just got a decent paycheck from the UFC. Most of these fighters would be lucky to make half of that in 3 years!

Most fighters dont get revenue shares of ppv either. Most aren't champs. Most are undefeated we aren't talking about an average ufc fighter we are talking about tippy top tier ufc fighter

Hey Luke, this suspension is just for Nevada right , so he could fight in California or New York for example so he doesn't get stripped of the belt. Also the suspension does it start today or back in October when the incident happen?

great level headed view on the fines, and this is why i always enjoy your videos. you dont have fan goggles on when you give your opinions. 50k to 500k is outrageous especially given connor's history. he had already put his hands on a ref previously.
