Black Hole Final day Alton Towers

- Took this video during a special event at Alton Towers on 5 March 2005 for the closure of the Black Hole. The footage was taken on a handheld video camera so firstly apologies for the shakyness in places and for the loud shouting and howling on the ride!
The day started with dinner in the hospitality tent and a briefing from John Wardley and others. We then had 2 hours inside the Black Hole tent where we rode it in the dark, and then with the lights on. We then got to walk around the maintenance area and the ride itself.
Finally, we had a walk around the park and took a look at Rita being built. Shows a few areas and rides no longer in use, including the Corkscrew.
Loved this ride! I'm old enough to have been on it quite a few times, and the old Corkscrew too.
Hi Kerry I was too small to go on this ride but I went to Alton Towers with 3 other people and they were tall enough to go on it. Was it fun
They need another rollercoaster in the dark!! Maybe put spinball in a tent and theme it to a mad funhouse like Laff Track at Hershey
i must say the hairstyle of the bespectacled gentleman to your right is spectacularly 90s. i love it!

this is so cool, my parents talk about this ride all the time but i wasnt even born when it was running and i wish i coulve gone on it
Went when I was 16 - it rained so whizzed through the park going on everything at least 4x extremely short queues except for Black Hole - missed it all day but then everyone started to leave around 3.30 as it was also cold and miserable, went on this ride about 6x in a row - awesome memories
This is without a dought the ride I miss the most at Alton. :(
God Both PB and towers really need an other indoor coaster for when the weather Is puring it down.
This was awsome of course unexpected drops on the pitch black darkness i loved that thrill of whats the size and force of the next drop unseen on the ride so great and fun x

The Black Hole has been moved to Sweden if you still want to ride it, however it’s outdoor not indoor
Did go on this once upon a time, must have been at least 30 years ago.
The sound effects on this don't sound like the usual Black Hole themes which played while you were on the ride? Did they change at some point before the close?
MedallionSeeker not sure. I know they changed the track profile at one point to make it smoother but don't think they changed the music. As far as I can recall it always sounded the same unless they updated the boarding area music at some point
It was moved to Furuvik Zoo, where it now operates as Rocket.

The Smiler looks better though. It might not be cause ive never been to Alton towers but by what other people have told me, Smiler looks better.

Black hole didn't get demolished, it just fell into a black hole!
And moved to another country
4.27 i swear that is Pat Phelan on Black Hole? They should not of got rid of Black Hole, Should of had it sent away and refurbished.
johnm400uk it was to do with the fact they had to build an evacuation platform around the lift hill for it to comply with new safety regs coming in, and financially it wasn't viable to do this. Was a great ride though
Ah right, i didnt know that. Good old health and safety eh? Makes you wonder how they managed without an evacuation platform for all those years! Not saying we dont need health and safety but these days its become more to do with big money than just about health and safety.
Poor black hole but now we have The smiler 😵😵😵😵
