- I play “Maple Leaf Rag” at a slow tempo in standard 4/4 meter and follow the published score which is free to download from the IMSLP Music Library: goo.gl/EWh7B9
In this recording, I use the 4th harmonic pedal in resonance half-position instead of sustain. - Hudba
I like Maple Leaf Rag played at this tempo. It gives it more breath.
Me too
I also think that it sounds better idk
@@joannajanasik1015 Yes!

A true hood classic.
Great tutorial
Bruh this such a fucking bop
frrrr
Well done! Perfect tempo. I was wrong in my previous comment. Sorry! Most modern pianists fly through his rags like they are trying to win a race. The nuance and emotion is missed. Bravo! 👏🏻👍🏻
Thank you! Most modern pianists today race through Joplin’s rags and miss the nuance and emotion.
they play it like its moonlight sonata
I'm interested about your opinion on pedaling in this piece. Can you comment a bit on it?
Don't tend to pedal rags at all.
I do it a bit randomly, just where ever it feels right
Anybody here because of RDR?
Yup.
Here because of the RDR2 subreddit lol
Same here

Yeahh
First heard this in the end credits of the movie "Grotesque (1988)", starring Linda Blair
RAGS are usually played not at breakneck speed. What good does it do to play fast to prove you can?
Exactly!
fun
that is right tempo
I dunno why this music sound like the streets of toronto or the snow in canada
Good, really close, maybe just a _little_ bit slower. Scott Joplin himself said: "Never play ragtime fast."
actually the speed written on the piece is a little bit faster, so this is a good tempo but just a little bit faster
Actually when he recorded maple leaf rag he was playing at 110 BPM, so honestly no one really knows why he said "Never play ragtime fast" because his publisher, John Stark, and John Stark's son said If you don't know what speed to play at, maybe play at 100 BPM."
It does not say slow march tempo so that's right
I usually think people play Maple Leaf too fast, but this one is a bit too slow imo, maybe by 5 bpm or so. It's also not quite as "snappy" as I think it's supposed to be, too, as if the piano is muffled or something, or the notes resonate too long.
Most people who play this know the right keys to hit but, they don't "get it". They play it too fast. This is "stride" music, not some played to rev up a game show studio audience.
This isn't slow at all, I played it at this pace and my arms were tired, this seems normal
Thats Tempo di Marcia
