That's so cool that you got to watch the movie when it first came out and that you still remember it! I take it that it wasn't exactly a blockbuster back then?
@@idkwhattocallmyselfsothiswilld According to Wikepedia - "The film was made as a TV movie that was to air on NBC as Motown Productions' first venture into dramatic television. However, the film was given a theatrical release instead after Universal Pictures executives thought it had box office potential.[" I saw it on TV, I wasn't aware that it had a theatrical realease.
@@5kdamian Oh I just meant that I guessed that it wasn't a huge deal back then. Didn't know about it being NBC's first venture into dramatic television, pretty interesting. Thanks for telling me.

Bethena - its quite strikingly touching that this song represents what Joplin is going through after the death of his wife. Its been a while since I know that information, but that is what I read online.
It's Bethena.. which is odd he's playing it here in 1899, since he didn't compose it until 1904... historical goof in the movie I suppose. Same thing about Solace. He composed that after a trip to Mexico with his wife, whom he didn't marry until 1907.
At 3:40 he starts working out Bethena; one of my favorite but least played Joplin pieces. He then moves on to Solace. Poignant, unlike our expectation of Ragtime, but reflective of the brilliance of composer Joplin.
I watched this movie 43 years ago and always remember when Solace was played.
