      Hi Darrell. This is such an amazing video lesson. As I watch my 12 year old daughter struggle to learn the guitar with her short, tiny fingers, this capo can help her sound great fast.
      One problem though; all the chords I googled are for a guitar that have been retuned to DADGAD.
      Do you have a chord chart that shows all the standard major and minor chords using this capo?
      Thank you

      @@diego2112gaming Garry not Linda. I've been doing it a lot longer and then Kyser came out with the "Dropped D" capo about 10-12 years ago. It's really dropped E, it covers all but the 6th string. Then I saw a guy using that with a regular capo and did the doors open! Then they came out with this model. I've been struggling with it until this video. It just hasn't clicked for me until now. I love putting the second capo on especially when there's a guitar picker in the audience. There's that what the heck is he doing? Look on their face.

    I started playing guitar in 2018 about two months before my 68th Birthday! I first bought a guitar in 1973! Along with a book of chords. I started and stopped probably 30 times over the years. It was just to boring and seemed to be a cut-and-dried sort of thing. “This is how to play a G chord. The only was to play a G chord”. After I retired I needed something to keep my hands and brain active. I have played drums since 1962. I think I have that down! But it tends to piss off everybody in the neighborhood. So I restarted the guitar thing. This time there was this amazing thing called the internet! And I discovered that guitar is not at all cut-and-dried! Almost immediately I discovered fingerstyle picking and open tunings! Then capos. Then cut capos! Wow! I didn’t have to struggle through two years of just trying to learn how to change from C to G! I love this lesson. It’s even more things to try. No. It’s not cheating. I am not and never will be an “I can play it all” guitarist. But what I do play with capos and alternate tunings sounds great to me. If it sounds good, it is good! Thanks for the video!!

    I bought a Wingo guitar capo from Amazon for &17.00 Canadian. The part that goes over the strings, I cut just enough off to expose the first 2strings e and b. Because there is no room for the exposed 6 the string (e) , I put the capo over g,d,a,e strings and tune the E down 2 whole notes. Remember E on 2nd fret becomes F # . Retune it to E when the capo is on. The cut capo generally goes on 2nd fret, but you can get nice sounds with it on the 4th fret. Also try putting the capo over first 4 strings. Here In Canada on Amazon Kyser capos run $30 to $40.

    i watch your videos all of the time, and for some reason have never commented on one until today. First, I would like to say that aside from being a phenomenal player, you are a phenomenal human being. Your spirit and the energy you put out, is heads above the crowd. It's not very often that someone on YT gives a guitar lesson on their video. I am also guilty of not being financially supportive as of yet to your channel, and I apologize and will change that. You certainly deserve it, for all the work you do. Lastly, you and Jonathon Kohl should get together for a north meets east video and do a few songs together, and also the guy from the Guitar Max channel (his name escapes me right now and I don't want to have to type this all over). You are the three best, and as far as I am concerned, have the most integrity of ANY of the other YT guitar gurus. An after thought. You should get Dikla Hacmon from Tel Aviv to sing. She has the most amazing voice I have ever heard, and it would represent so many different cultures in one setting. If you haven't heard her, I highly suggest listening to her.

If you tune your strings down 1 whole step, then you can use a full capo on the 2nd fret to play in standard tuning, this short capo on the second fret to play in DADGAD, and a drop D capo on the second fret to play in standard drop-D tuning, all without ever retuning your strings! • @kencarr6004
      @kencarr6004 Před 4 lety

      Yes you can, but the problem with this is that the guitar has a fixed scale length of approximately 25.5" and the string gauges are designed to be at appropriate tension tuned up to standard pitch. The top is designed to resonate best when tuned up to standard pitch. For the guitar to sound it's best, there has to be enough tension to get the top to vibrate sufficiently. I use alternative tunings most of the time, ( mostly cgdgcd ) where I will tune some of the strings down. That's ok to a point. By dropping all the strings down a whole step to dgcfad you are seriously reducing the tension on the top. It will not sound as resonate or alive as it normally would. Using medium gauge strings will sound better than lights. Don't be afraid to tune strings down to alternate tunings. I do most of the time. But just know that if you reduce the tension too low on all of the strings, it will adversely affect your tone and intonation. Also it will give the strings a floppy feel and might buzz a little as well. All the best to you.

    One reason I like Thalia’s so much. A $2 insert and you can create any configuration of cut/partial capo you want.

    Ordered one! Awesome! Thanks Darrell. I’d like to try this for slide in open tuning without having to adjust machine heads . Will save me carting two guitars to gigs!

    The piece @ 8:53 sounded a lot like a Jeff Martin song from the Tea Party. I think he just uses different tunings instead of a partial capo, but the result is the same. Thank you Darrell!!

    There’s a great song I love to play by Andy McKee called “rynlynn” that uses a partial capo. You should check it out! Great video!

    Wow I never knew I could just flip over my traditional Kaiser capo. I have my 12 string tuned a whole step down so now I can get a drop D with ease

    I have a full-length "Shubb" capo. I removed the original rubber sleeve and replaced it with various lengths of rubber water heater line tubing. That is a nice dense rubber and slips right over the metal bar. I can easily get the equivalent of DADGAD and drop-D, as well as other creative tunings without having to return any strings. But, there are some differences because to non-capoed strings are at the nut.. Thick walled aquarium pump hose might work, but it has to be thick enough for non-capoed strings to vibrate under the metal bar, in certain cases.

    @Darrell Braun Guitar You also can put it on 2nd to 4th string then you have A-major open strings.

    Been playing for 17 years and never knew about these things! HAHA I am sure I have seen them and thought they were for Ukes & Banjos lol. Really cool. I am thinking of a spider capo, but this seems nice too.

    Great video, Darrell! Such a handy little thing! Sort of gives it a similar ring to my guitar that I have an open tuning of ADGDAD on, which I use for Scandinavian folk/traditional music!
