I don't think I would drill holes in bottom of my boat, especially in thin aluminum. You don't even have a support plates where your bar hooks to bottom of boat. I can see hitting something hard and all your weight pushes or pulls on your grab bar and cracking if not ripping holes in your boat, or bending and making it weak.

The brackets under the ribs is a no no
Been fine for 6 years now. It’s a riveted boat anyways, so there are plenty of holes with fasteners through them already.
