Truly appreciate the effort and the thought behind this video, not many people talk about southern hit numbers but that's also the reason that the narrator isn't pronouncing the singer/lyricist Arivu's name properly and few other words like oppari,it isn't oppara it is oppari. Enjoy in this song is said as enjaai and enjaami means 'en thai' meaning my mother, it is a term used by kids to call their mothers and not vice versa. But it also can be understood as 'En saami' which is 'my lord'.

You see by saying Parai is not only for funerals undermines the isolation Dalits face in our country. This video is an opportunity for their stories to be heard, tell me how it helps to comment that Parai is played at all the occasions?
There is a lot of wisdom in knowing when to say something and when to keep it yourself.
As for who hurt me? The caste system did. Living in a society where patriarchy still exists hurts. Living in a world where videos of marginalized communities can't exist without ppl feeling like they are fact checkers- that really hurts.

This is by far the best breakdown of the song. More tidbits are
This genre of song is called "Oppari" which is sung during the time of great sorrow. Theme of this song is the grand parents lamenting(singing oppari) for their grand kids because they are inheriting the barren land which is defiled and lays barren because they failed to listen to them. This is just part of the total meaning of the song. It is mostly metaphorical and only some Native Tamilians can understand its true meaning.

NIce video. Appreciate the initiative. Few suggestions... Please validate once on the pronounciations of the names - Arivu, Parai etc are incorrectly pronounced in the video above. For a new person listening to the above video, they may also start calling incorrectly. Keep releasing more videos..!!! Love it..!!!

Parai is a traditional instrument and also one of the identiy of tamil cultur. Pls don't use word "dalit" because . our tamil says every one is equal all are brothers and sisters. பிறப்பொக்கும் எல்லா உயிர்க்கும் , யாதும் ஊரே யாவரும் கேளீர்
This song ask to every one come together for.........What ?
    listen ENJOY ENJAMI 😍

Some important points have been missed out in this video. This song is mainly based on the Tamilians who were taken as slaves to Sri Lanka 200 years back in their tea estates; which is the same reason why there are few tea plants behind Dhee and Arivu (Looking at the LTT case would give a clear understanding). Arivu's Valliyamma is one among the people who were sent back from Sri Lanka. The tamil spoken in Sri Lanka is different which is the reason why the Tamil used in the song unfamiliar for some of the listeners.

Good decoding, I loved the way how you understood and described the deep meaning of the lines in the song despite not being from TN. Just a few observation, the pronunciation of a few words are incorrect. For instance, "Oppari" is pronounced as Oppara, it should be Oppa-ri.

No in ancient times parai was used in temples, marriages, festivals, protecting crops from animals, even in war it will help us to be energetic, etc... Different kinds of oppari are there, they are sung in every kind of places in different ways. Low cast even tribes are, they are ancient than us and real kings and decedent of Gods as per mythologies.

A song well- explained... This is one song where we empathize with the farmers whose efforts, struggles and unconditional love for the nature makes Earth a better place to live... What we have in our plate is the sweat and toil of each and every farmer of this world... We survive because of them... They are the true rulers of their kingdom of Earth... A Big Salute to all the farmers...
