    STORYLINE:
The lush green leaves of a 400-year-old heavily branched tree emerges from Bahrain's desert, where the landmark known as "Tree of Life" is surrounded by vast expanses of sand on all sides.
The Prosopis cineraria tree, located 40 kilometers 24.8 miles) south of the Bahraini capital Manama, is a major draw for curious tourists who marvel at how it survived all alone in the barren desert.
"It is nice because in the middle of the desert, (is) a tree, so green," said Derlin Mathew, an Indian visitor who lives in Kuwait.
The tree is seen often as a symbol of resilience and hope because it defies the harsh climate and challenging environment of the desert.
But there are also a lot of mystery tales circulated about the tree because people do not understand how it gets the water it needs to survive, said Sheikh Mohammad Bin Khalifa Al Khalifa, head of national heritage department.
"The site of the Tree of Life is considered one of the most visited destinations by tourists, not only tourists from abroad but also Bahraini visitors," he added.
