    I have mentioned this in an earlier video of Mr. Mani, this man deserves the Padma Shri. My argument was that he spoke about the importance of aesthetics on trains and that to my mind is a sign of a leader who cares. Now my argument as to why he deserves the award is that - The thought "a porter deserves dignity" makes me feel so proud as Indian. As a citizen of India I feel he deserves the award.(The value of the award goes up if bestowed to Mr.Mani). Jai HInd!

    Hope railways work closely with materials scientists at Indian Universities (and perhaps even with DRDO?). There is much scope for high quality engineering materials design and processing at world benchmarks. My simple minded thinking is that the performance specs would be higher than what has been the norm so far.

    Very valid questions by Mani Ji. Government should also make public where will these trains be employed when there are no tracks to support high-speed travel. Mani ji mentions that he doesnt have all the data. But then all this data should be in public domain. Even if it is for just putting in public investment - that investment should be balanced with high-speed track

    To run faster trains (upto 200kmph), is just track upgrade prerequisite or overhead voltage upgrade and construction like rail overbridges (which may require land acquisition) to avoid slowing of trains due to traffic movement through rail gates that would increase the upgrade cost significantly, also prerequisite?

    • @thetechnocrat4979
      @thetechnocrat4979 Před 2 lety

      Yes, all of that is required. Increasing the operating speed of trains is a complicated and expensive endeavour. The main bridges will have to be strengthened. Level crossings will have to be eliminated. The tracks will have to be considerably grade separated. Significant segregation of traffic will have to take place (separate lines for local commuter trains, intercity trains and freight trains) along with better types of signalling system for higher frequency in services. Current block type signalling and dispatch system is not sufficient for higher train frequencies. The overhead equipment will need some upgrades. The mechanical tension of the wires will have to be increased for the safer operation of train pantographs at such speeds. Of course, track joints will have to be changed and they should be less frequebt as well.

    • @knightatdawndonbynight8432
      @knightatdawndonbynight8432 Před 2 lety

      So that will require lot more money than just changing the tracks, with construction of new underpasses/overbridges for elimination of level crossing taking away huge chunk of the budget.

    • @thetechnocrat4979
      @thetechnocrat4979 Před 2 lety +1

      @@knightatdawndonbynight8432
      Yes, but only if its done all at once. It is a neccessity and we wouldn't have faced this situation if only we had kept upgrading our network steadily over the decades in incremental steps. This is also something that the anti Bullet train crowd doesn't understand. It would actually be more economical to get a new system all together with a top speed ceiling of above 360 km/h for routes with a high demand/ high potential rather than spending a lit of money for a speed ceiling of just 200 km/h.
      Don't get me wrong, we need to upgrade our mainlines to that speed but in a gradual way. People need to understand that such masive infrastructure changes need time to be realized in reality.

      Ha ha do not take it to heart, no hard feelings. What desi train manufacturers, including ICF, can DO, is to fund small core industry, engineering and physics r&d projects from their own company profit (and be mentally prepared to grind along tenaciously for decades on end even if success is hard to come by with very little to no return on investment in the short to mid term) on fields where these companies are deficient in technology necessitating learning from western manufacturers- nobody parts with their family gold or kills golden egg laying goose, just like that, even for billions of dollars worth of deals knowing fully well that such deep cooperation and vast technology transfer would create rivals with huge domestic market base with prospects of higher economies of scales being achieved that would gobble up their global market with price competitive products in the mid to long term - so technology transfer is going to be SHALLOW; hence EXPECTATION of them teaching Indians too much should be kept realistic (read it as LOW). Britain/Italy perfected active tilting high speed train technology over several decades when computer simulation used to be far less advanced,, massproduced electronics was less sophisticated- our smart phones have more computational power and memory compared to Super computers of early eighties when they ran active tilting high speed trains. Atleast we in our times have the gift of technology in certain fields to build upon and start with to face challenges they overcame in eighties without those gifts.
      We are yet to see any desi PSU train manufacturer taking up (that is DOing) any 1:4 or 1:8 scale high speed tilting train prototype/technology demonstrator project on their own from their profit, grappling and grinding along and continuing to try despite failures, trial running with their share of failures and accidents yet returning to the drawing board with reinvigored zeal, instead of TALKING to impress upon the western train manufacturers with TALK of lure of the big Indian market just to get them to reveal their trade secrets, whilst the GLIB tender clauses at times produce nothing except hot air- major international defense corporates have faulted on their offset promises because of such tender clauses and recently international companies have withdrawn from P75I submarine tendering process (the French and Russians included) without bothering about the big Indian defense market often bandied about, because of such tendering clauses-seems like your bosses not just talk glib, they write glib as well. And western train manufacturers never stopped Indian counterparts from grappling, grinding along and learning it the hard way (that is some significant DOing)-point to take note of. Yet, instead of pursuing their ways, if Indians keep thinking that they are monkeys and westerners are superior intellectual beings, if instead Indians DO intend to exemplify short term failures as proof of perenniality of Indian culture of being handheld and led to enlightenment, so be it.
      There is no shame in learning; we all can learn from anybody and everybody. But where is the PRIDE in expecting others to teach without atleast making honest attempts (that is DOing) of learning the hard way by starting from the scratch or bare minimum available in the first place? The Chinese not only invited the westerners to work with them, they also invested heavily in learning by themselves as a plan B- and the Chinese were not dumb to discuss in the social media about having western companies teach them trade secrets, ways of snooping on their IPR and business models and blue print of largescale reverse engineering endeavor with the agenda of making inroads into the global market dominated by those western companies; they understood the nature of competition among western manufacturers, played one against the other on technology transfer, chalked out their plan in their closed conference rooms and approached the western companies with an overt vibe like, "Come, make in China, we will provide logistics, infrastructure incentives and give you access to our market that has huge potential for your profit; just create jobs for our workforce transfer some technology so that chinese economy can also benefit and you will also have to let us establish a communist party orgaanistation inside your factory in China so that law and order can be maintained" so that reverse engineering could fill in the blanks, the jigsaw puzzles in their learn-by-themselves endeavor. Once beaten, twice shy- western manufacturers are not going to take the risk of repeating the same mistake with India they did by trusting China blindly. Is there a plan B in India? Say, if there is a sanction slapped upon India for hundred years by terming train and Railways related technology as dual (military) use technology due to suddenly changed geostrategic political scenario, won't Indians see high speed trains for another hundred years?

    18:51 what an idiotic comment by the anchor about salaries being paid. Government employees dont get paid for free. they work hard and contribute to this society. I guess people who didnt have the chance to join a govt dept dont know how much one can contribute to soceity expecting nothing in return
