Hard Crash + Fire - Formula Renault - Circuit Zandvoort

- A hard crash happened for the Filip Declercq in his formula Renault 2.0 car on the second day of the DNRT Super Race Weekend. Afer his car flipped over in the Scheivlak corner, it caugth fire while still upside down. He was trapped in his car while it was buring for about 2 minutes. After which the fire was put out.
In the mean time the Westfield cup drivers decided it was a good idea to ignore the double waved yellow and just continue racing.
Filip Declercq suffered some serious burns but is currently in stable condition luckily. I wish him a speedy recovery and hope that he can race again soon.

Exactly my thoughts. Those marshals waited 14secs and the gap in the barrier waiting until it was safe.

I said in a similar clip that the dnrt races must be great fun. Having seen this clip it seems a some of the drivers lack basic track education in how to respond to the flags. A few licences need to be cancelled.
In the Netherlands, is a training course needed to be passed before a licence is granted?

they need training like every other country that has fia approved racing licences. But the problem is that a part of this class is probably stil filled by people that dont know much about the cars they drive, they just arrive and drive. Atleast the westfield cup was kind of known for a lot of idiots driving in it. It was not if there is going to be a crash but when in that clas from what i heard.

Hebben ze ook gehad, maar hebben ze weinig van geleerd helaas. Reden ze bijna allemaal nog net zo hard onder geel toen er eentje met een afgebroken wiel in de masters stond
The assistance a bit more slower and that could've been Roger Williamson again. The marshalls not being able to show a red flag on a crash like this and have to wait for the director's decision is still something I can't deal with..
Purple60 flag (38mph max speed entire track) was implemented within seconds of crash - & red flag within 30-40 seconds - with remaining cars stopped back on startline.
It's amazing how slow the response was and lack of common sense from other drivers
What do you mean slow? He picked up his fire extuingisher straight away, and tested it while on the run (Those things are fucking heavy btw). What are they to do? Run onto the track and get run over by all the passing cars that ignore the double yellow? Own safety first. They can't extuingish the fire if they die themselves... Sheesh.

This reminds me when roger williamson was in a crash like his and died because nobody helped him but the dude in thsi video managed to survive that
Hier word door het veld Westfield bestuurders gedrag vertoont wat dagelijks ook op de openbare weg te zien valt: NUL anticipatie en vooral NIET vooruit kijken. Beste rijders weten neem ik aan dat bepaalde posten onbemand waren en dat je dus RUIM vtv naar de post voor de top dient te kijken. Schandelijk gedrag en gelukkig is de situatie niet verder uit de klauwen gelopen.

My father used to marshal at Zandvoort in the 1970's and I used to watch at this corner. There were very rarely any serious incidents there. Something seems to have changed, is the approach faster than it used to be?

Scheinbar bedeuten "doppelt gelb geschwenkte Flaggen" nichts mehr für die Piloten 😠. Diese sollten alle noch einmal zur nachschulung so wie die da alle angeflogen kommen.
die sollten einfach allesamt die lizens entzogen bekommen. normal sollten fahrer nicht auf der strecke anhalten um zu helfen aber wenn ein fahrzeug brennt müssen alle ran.
der unfall ist auch deswegen doppelt schlimm weil anfang der 70er so ein fahrer in zandvoort verbrannt ist, weil niemand angehalten hat um zu helfen.
Allemaal de racelicensie afnemen. Dwaas gedrag en hierdoor bevestigd dat ze totaal niet capabel zijn om een race auto te besturen.

It's a multipleclass race. Most of them are westfields together a few old formula cars.
Formula Libre (single seaters)started 20-30 seconds ahead of a field of Westfields - most of which ignored waved yellow flags

Ik roep het ook regelmatig op autosport.nl maar het amateur racen is er de laatste jaren niet bepaald op vooruit gegaan. Dat geld overigens niet alleen voor zandvoort hoor maar overal. Ook vreemd om formule auto's te combineren met kitcars.
reden voor de combinatie is dat het beide open wiel autos zijn, dus niet zoals bij touringcars nog de optie om wat te leunen in een bocht. Oftewel er zou wat netter geracet moeten worden. En aangezien er een zeer beperkt aantal formule autos rijden is het niet echt een optie om daar een eigen race voor te maken. En de dnrt voegt al jaren meerdere klasses samen in 1 race. Op die manier kunnen ze toch alle klasses op 1 dagen laten racen, en het dus enigzins betaalbaar houden. Zouden die formule autos hun eigen race krijgen dan heb je nog geen 10 autos op de baan, en die paar autos moeten dan dus de kosten dragen van zeg 1 uur baan gebruik. Dat betekent dat voor hun mee doen 5-10x zo duur zou worden. Dan hou je er nog minder over die mee willen doen.

I didn't cut out the rescue, I did not even film it out of respect of the driver in case he was severly injured. As at the time the trauma helicopter was called and we all feared that his injuries would be very bad. Luckily this turned out not to be the case and he was already released from the hospital the next day

Nu ben ik niet zo thuis in de vlag codes van races maar dit lijkt voor het ongetrainde oog een rode vlag waard, of betekend dubbel geel hetzelfde?

Rood gaat via de wedstrijdleiding. Daarom eerstdubbel geel. Voordat de wedstrijdleiding en de rest van de baanposten de ernst van de situatie weten.
Dubbel geel betekent qua rijgedrag hetzelfde. Alleen geel wordt door de baanpost bepaald en rood door de wedstrijdleiding die ergens anders zit. Na kort overleg wordt er dan rood gegeven.
Dus als rijder doe je bij dubbel geel net alsof het rood is, tot je een groene vlag ziet. Maar meestal zie je daarna een rode.
bij een rode vlag moeten de wagens allemaal de pistraat in totdat de baan weer vrij is bij dubbel geel moet je per direct van je gas af (bij enkel geel ook)mag je niet inhalen en pas na de post met groen mag je weer vol, in dit geval is dubbel geel naar code 60 gegaan(die bedacht is door de DNRT)code 60(ook wel paarse vlag met 60 erin)betekent dat elke rijder een knop indrukt zodat de auto niet harder gaat dan 60,met deze snelheid kunnen ze veilig de baan schoonmaken

Jesus Christ this is painful to watch! Nightmare scenario for sure. In racing you never imagine it will go bad until it does. Hope the driver is alright, that’s a long time to be on fire.

Black_Gold_Saw In the real world, deliberate actions often get better results. Marshals dont just run onto track in the face of oncoming traffic unless they can clearly see the drivers have heeded the flags, which they hadn't (and even then, rarely - I've only seen it once). No point being mashed before you get to the fire. The folks getting out of the fire truck - better to assess exactly whats in front of you and deal with it properly, than leaping out and falling on your ar5e (it happens too often to be funny). Red flagging is significant as it ends the race; I have seen inexperienced flag marshals red flag a race inappropriately and it caused more confusion; double yellows SHOULD be enough until the decision is take to red flag (which according to another comment was within 40 seconds, I cant confirm that), All too often you can see what looks like a really serious incident, start off towards the wreck, and before you get there the driver is either out of the car and leaping to safety or driven off to continue the race (admittedly the latter was not going to happen in this case, and the former never happens, they dont leap,anywhere they just stand around in the danger zone and vent their frustration).

voor dat F1 begint , mischien een betere oplossing bedenken voor brandblussers , dit duurde ook weer eeuwig #lessons lessons learned from the past !!!!
Ik denk dat er misschien op meer plekken blussers zouden kunnen staan zoals bij het einde van de vangrail. Maar wanneer rijders geen respect hebben voor de flagsignalen zou ik als ex marchal net zoals deze heren gewoon even wachten. Het is en blijft vrijwilligers werk en er word altijd geleerd eigen veiligheid eerst. Daarnaast dragen rijders ook brandwerende overalls.
En als laatste wil ik ook graag melden dat het filmpje maar 1,22 minuten duurt en dan is er al geblust.

als ik zie hoe deze coureur aan het overpakken is met sturen dan hebben ze daar ook nog een les voor nodig,de hele wereld heeft het nu over het rijgedrag van alle westfields onder dubbel geel dit is niet goed te praten .
Gewoon veel te laat geremd. Ja handje opsteken in makkelijk maar dubbel geel betekent gewoon versperde weg en achter een blinde bocht is het beter dat je direct snelheid uithaalt en niet wacht tot je het ziet wat het is.

Andy Owens No prob. There is some onboard footage from one of the drivers who took evasive action somewhere on here. There was a big investigation into this incident in the weeks after it .

Responsetijd a la Roger Williamson. Lijkt erop alsof Zandvoort nog bij lange na niet klaar is voor de Formule 1. En al die gekken die het dubbel geel negeren zouden hun racelicentie direct moeten inleveren. Wat een onverantwoordelijk gedrag zeg.
