I think the applause is meant as a kind of moral support. It can seem strange but as a British person I can say that it was done with love and respect for him

Same happened to my mom in 2020, we lost our grandma in January and our grandpa in December, it was a difficult time for us. Miss them so much 😞

I am sure that King Charles will continue the tradition of giving a Christmas Day speech. It started in 1932 when the Queen’s grandfather George V gave a radio speech on Christmas Day and has continued used as a royal tradition ever since.
