How did this not become a huge hit? This stands up to some of the best songs of the era from The Outfield, Huey Lewis and The Fixx to name a few who did have massive hits and is comparable to this song.
Been listening to the "How We Live" material posted on you tube a lot recently What have I been missing out on!!!? So happy to see the "Dryland" album has been re issued on cd,just waiting for my copy to arrive courtesy of Mr amazon......
So absolutely "'80's" in every way that I'm having flashbacks. Thank goodness Ian Moseley picked h's demo tape in '89! "80s bass players bop" -- LOL, especially since they were almost all miming to sequenced "doink doink doink" synth-bass.
Was taken to a Chris deBurgh concert in Manchester by my sister - how we live were the support. Picked up this 7" single a few days after. Have not been surprised what 'h' has gone on to achieve.
Never heard/seen this until now. Very, very 80's, but that's part of the charm. Not terribly different than anything Genesis or Mike + The Mechanics were doing at that time. Pretty solid. I think I'll track down the CD.
This is after New Wave got a little more sophisticated I can see. I like his singing here better than when he joined Marillion. I bought one tape of Marillion after he joined, and I just could not get into it. I always felt he was a good singer but overall the band and him were not the same as before, so I was not sure what to make of it. A couple good songs I've heard since then, but it's like a totally new thing.
i don't think it's bad lip-synching - all of the audio track is out of line with the video (you'll notice that the drumming is about half a second out as well) great track though!
Oh, please! The best thing EVER to happen to Marillion was havin H as the lead singer. His lyrics, his voice... everything: Simply PERFECT. H RULES
indeed. They needed him more than he needed them.
Well they have shown they can change singer, Rotheray on guitar is irreplacable

The best thing to never happen in the 80's. Just brilliant.
Great find. Interesting chords and nice spacious soundscape. That Fish in the bowl is a peculiar detail..
Mr h superb vocalist👁👃👁

In the latter part of 1988 it was, more precisely.
At 1.00 he already had clear sight on who he was to replace....

AragornIsStrider Are you pissed ?? Genesis never did anything like this nor did mike and the mechanics
decent tune
2:11 : and of course there's a fish in the bowl.....
I wonder if the inspiration for this song was the classic- sci-fi film The Time Machine (1960).
How ironic that a fish keeps appearing in the video !!
Spot the typical 80s bass players bop.

TUNE
Ain't he cute?
SOMEBODY seems to have watched a David Bowie video too many.
I'm not pointing any fingers, of course, but...
I think H would happily confirm you can't watch TOO many Bowie videos
