- My Goldwing hit 20K miles, time for an oil change! This How To video shows how I change the oil and both filters (engine + DCT filter) on my 2018 Goldwing. I end the motovlog by doing a DCT Initialization right after the fresh oil change.
I'm not a mechanic, but I do play one on TV. Do you do your own work on your bike?

ABOUT ME:
My name is Mengy and this is my motovlog channel, Moto Mengy. I plan to upload a Goldwing motovlog every Sunday. I ride a 2018 Honda Goldwing DCT Tour but I rode Harley Davidson's for 25+ years before. I'm motovlogging with a GoPro Hero 8 Black mounted to a Bell Mag 9 open face helmet, no external mic! To me riding is wind therapy.
My goal for the channel is to motovlog Pennsylvania country roads while also motovlog exploring around America. I'll also talk about biker topics and such, probably test ride a few other motorcycles, and will definitely get lost and accidentally wind up on unpaved roads along the way.
Please SUBSCRIBE if you like my motovlog channel and LIKE any videos you enjoy! Thanks!!!

Great video! You did a super job with all the explaination. Had no problem doing this for my first time. Thanks! Jim
That's great, glad I helped Lu-Ann!
I’m looking into getting a goldwing and I like to do my own maintenance. This video was fantastic; helped me understand the bike a lot more. Thank you for sharing your knowledge for newbies!
Glad it was helpful! Oil changes aren't bad on the Wing at all, just takes a bit of time.
Great videos and you have a great personality. Thanks pal!
I appreciate that!
As far as the crush washers go, after 115K miles my 2015 Yamaha FJ-09 still has its original crush washer. I'm cheap and it still works. Thanks for the videos. They've helped me in my decision to buy a Goldwing.
Thanks! I don't think you'll regret buying the new Goldwing, but make sure to test ride one with the DCT first before buying just to see if you like it!
Fantastic video! Thanks for making a quality instructional video! You are more of a mechanic than you think!
Wow, thanks, glad you liked it! 😀
Sweet videos for the new riders. A small note: the DCT initialization is not only cause you just put fresh oil, it's also mating the new oil with the wear of the dual clutches. I call it a perfect kiss till the next oil change. Moreover, get yourself a shallow oil pan from Amazon.
Yeah, a shallow oil pan is on my list of things to buy this winter.
Thank you Mengy!
My pleasure!
FYI-You can buy blue or black neoprene gloves 500-100 real cheap. Also now that you’re here. Just a reminder. A belly pan would be a good thing.
Thanks. I have the M model so there is less to be done. Keep up the vids.
Yes you should have one less filter to change out! 😁
LOVE FROM DEKALB MISSISSIPPI USA 🇺🇸
Thanks David!
Nice video, you made the oil change on this Beamer look easy lol.
I've never owned a BMW, are oil changes hard on them?
@@MotoMengy I had a bmw f800gt and that was easy but I'm sure bugger sport touring bikes with more fairings are a bit difficult. Main thing is the oil reset.
Thanks
You are welcome Logan!
I’m debating about getting a DCT for my next bike . Wayyyyy different than my GL1500 !!
There isn't anything like the Honda DCT in the motorcycle market. It's awesome, yet it's not for everyone either. I love it myself!
Watching this had my OCD going into overtime. I just wanted to take a wire brush to everything to clean the dirt off.
My bike needs a good detailing. Thankfully winter is coming so I'll have the time to do it!
*HEY GUYS, I NEED SOME HELP!*
I changed my oil and oil filter yesterday on my 2011 kawasaki ninja 250 and when I went to tight the filter cover and oil filter mounting bolt, I broke the filter cover.. It's in pieces and I've been searching all over to get a replacement but where's a good place to order one? Or could I use another oil filter cover at maybe a local hardware or bike shop??
No idea, I've never had a Ninja. Any Kawasaki dealer should be able to get the cover for you I'd think?
Mine was a PITA..none of my oil filter wrenches worked the dealer didnt have any kits in stock or caps, i had to try every single cap at auto parts stores till i found one that worked .
I just use an old clamp style filter wrench. It isn't ideal but it works with a bit of finesse.
I assume you warmed the engine up before changing the oil and filters. I’ve been using cheap aluminum pans from the dollar store. They’re big enough and low enough to allow access to the drain plugs and not get oil all over the place. After changing the oil & filters I run the clutch initialization. It seems to run better that way. I ran across a thread somewhere that recommended an alternate O ring that fits better and lessens the chance of binding/pinching. (learned you do the initialization also 👍)
Yep, I always warm the bike up first. And yes there is an alternate O-ring part which seems to work better, but mine is still good so I'll keep using it for now.
What size is the crush washers and during the DCT initialization you showed DDN.., what do we do with that? Thanks
I'm not sure offhand what size the washers are, the Honda dealer just gave me the correct ones. The DDNDN is the code you key in using the manual shift pad, D = Drive and N = Neutral.
@@MotoMengy Thanks
Home Depot sells a good shallow drain pan
Yeah, I need to get one, my old drain pan is irksome to use.
it's not a beamer...it's a Goldwing! .... that made me laugh lol ! .... nice bonus the trans initialization. Thanks for the geat video!
I think a lot of riders still don't know the Goldwing got updated to a new design!
What ?? No CHROME under there like a Harley??? 😲😅😂😂 I learned something new about the DCT Initialization ! Great job on the Wing oil change! 💪💪👏👏
Glad you liked it!
Wing owners don't need to compensate for anything by adding chrome 😂
@@mattyb7736 TRUE THAT!!
Need to get a H-D oil pan it low with more room to work.
Yep, that's actually what I plan to buy this winter!
What oil are you using 5qt?
Yeah the 5qt Honda GN4 oil. It's what the manual recommends and it sells for a good price from my local Honda dealers.
That oil isn't synthetic which it must be
It's the recommended Honda oil, I just use what the dealer, owner and service manual say to use.
@@MotoMengy That's fine but use the Honda Synthetic or Motul Synthetic, the Motul will quiet the downshifts and shifts more,, it's just an unwritten law..
Interesting@@seatime674 , I'll have to try that next oil change!
@@MotoMengy People have went from the Honda oil to the Motul 7100 synthetic and said it was a massive difference in shifting

Sorry Samantha, I don't normally wear my chaps when I work on my bike!
