  • You can use this video as a tutorial as it shows full walkthrough what it takes to remove m50 head. Reassembly video will be in later.
Sadly my E34 525i head of m50b25 engine cracked on cylinder 3 exhaust valve to coolant passage, and its not weldable or will be too expensive to fix current head. enjoy the video, comment on how you think I could improve. Don't forget to like and subscribe if you find my videos enjoyable

I went to resurface my M50B25TU head and a shop told me they saw a crack in cylinder 3 where the valve seats are but it was hidden from all the carbon that was on it. So I’ve been working on a junk head wasting my time and money on it. Still had to pay the guy even though the head was junk at that point. So I had to search for a clean head. And found a nice fully restored one for $880 but I had to drive 2 hours for it. Where I live, finding a 1738400 vanos head is like looking for a pot of gold at the end of a rainbow. A shame how such a tiny hairline crack compromises the whole head itself. Head gaskets are a expensive job and having a cracked head just doubles the cost. But having a cracked iron block? Man, I’d just throw the car in the garbage bin at that point. Even though it’s easier to get the lower block where I live, just the whole process of dealing with replacing the iron block is a nightmare itself.

I realize this is a 2 yr old thread. Same happened to mine years ago and now once again, both due to overheating. The #3 chamber is the most susceptible to cracking exactly where your was. Mine was cracked there as well. They can be repaired but have to be done properly. That's what I did with mine. Anyway, 11 yrs later and I'm back at the same situation again.

Hi Arnold, I went across your e34 525i vids and really enjoyed it.
What's up with your head crack issue
now? I like the color you painted the BMW a lot and would like to see how it's getting rebuild. I would give this head to some engine rebuilder to get it welded.

Sadly yes. One time but not even in red zone. It overheated Cuz all the coolant was out thro exhaust. It smoked a lot though. I thought that it's oil trapped in exhaust after I filled full engine to unseeze it but now I know the real problem
